"What a fun little workhorse. Mostly take on trips with e-mails and cruise the internet. These products are NOT for serious multitasking work, if you purchased one for that....well you made a mistake. If you want a simple easy to use very handy little word processor-e-mail retriever-web searcher then this is the product for you."

"Cool to carry around ! Best for checking mails and doing reports on the go. It would have been better if a dvdr is part of it though. An external memory is an additional carry -on and expense. The speaker is not loud enough though."

"The NB305-410 has met and possibly exceeded my expectations. I am a heavy notebook user and have therefore made comparisons with larger screen computers. There is no limit to how many applications a user can open at one time. The original release or plans for Windows 7 Starter had a limitation of 3 applications open at one time. This limitation simply doesn't exist, so ignore comments for reviewers who mention this limitation -- the limitation is a myth. I have found that it is really not a big deal that Windows 7 Starter lacks some of the visual customization features for the Windows desktop (which you could probably get with 3rd party applications). I have Windows 7 Home Premium on a notebook. It is not true that upgrading Windows Starter on your Toshiba NB305-N410 is necessary. It is not. I would, though recommend purchasing the extra 2mb memory module to replace the 1mb module the computer comes with. Performance is excellent, as long as the user doesn't open up too many applications at the same time. The Atom processor is not intended for heavy graphics intensive work so don't expect high performance if you do heavy editing of movies and photos. For simple editing of photos, though, it's fine. Naturally for normal word processing and internet use, it is more than adequate. My reasons for getting a netbook were 1) portability 2) battery life. The NB305-N410 meets these requirements admirably. For prolonging battery life, make sure the USB charging port is turned off (it usually is by default, but make sure in the settings). Go to the Control Panel>Systems setting for customizing visuals and use the settings for performance and then customize those settings. Limiting the visual effects with icons, trailing cursors, shadows etc. will make the system run faster and increase battery life. Use the Toshiba Eco utility to quickly use settings to save energy -- in this case, your performance may go down slightly. If you want snappier performance but with shorter battery life, then use the Eco utility to turn. It's very easy to toggle between the 2 settings if you pin the utility to your taskbar. If you are not going to be using the internet, then turn off the WiFi. This will also have prolong the battery life. The tab key is a little too small and sometimes some of the keys seem unresponsive, requiring a little heavier pressure; however, I am finding with time, I am getting used to these minor points and naturally adapting to the keyboard, which in general is excellent. In order to cut costs, many new computers no longer come with system restore CDs and this computer is no exception. This is not a big deal. There is a utility installed for creating system restore CDs/DVDs. There doesn't seem to be a limitation to how many times you can use this utility. This is a plus point for the NB305-N410 -- On some computers, you can only make one set of restore CDs and then you can no longer use the utility to make more sets. Again, not very important either way, since you can always use CD/DVD writer software to make additional copies. Use the the create system restore utility when you first get the computer. I highly recommend this computer, as long as you are realistic about its intended use."

Battery life not as advertised. machine runs very hot. should be vented to side. Speakers worthless. might as well provide head set and eliminate speakers."

"This is my first laptop and I bought it with one thing in mind: travel abroad with a light-weight computer with long battery life. It worked very well, never did I tired or felt burdened while in Barcelona, Spain. The battery lasted at least 8 hours with light intermittent use (emails, Internet news, phone calls via MagicJack). On the negative side, its small screen made it difficult to read print; changing the size to "large" made reading easier but in this setting many windows would cut off the bottom part of a message, making it impossible to click on the "save" button (for intance, when tryng to complete a rent-a-car transaction). Also, the internal speakers were too weak to be heard; I remedied this by buying a headset with microphone (the Toshiba has a jack for this) and I was able to use MagicJack to make and receive crystal clear free phone calls to/from the USA while travelling abroad (Barcelona, Spain). Now I am back in the USA and will be using my bigger desktop computer. This tiny Toshiba will be tucked away in its travelling case ready for the next trip."

It is almost useless to have a very long battery life because it is so slow when it is not plugged in that is not worth using. The keyboard is sticky and does not work well."

"I bought this netbook to replace my five year old HP notebook. What impresses me most is the long battery life. It seems almost unbelievable that a battery can last so long after my years with the HP. I was wishing it had a DVD drive until I realized that's so unnecessary with all the movies available through online sources. It took me about two minutes to start watching a movie on Netflix. I am very satisfied with this computer."

"I chose the Toshiba NB305-N410 over the ASUS 1005PE (the only other netbook in contention) largely on account of its significantly more robust feel and its matt vs. glossy case finish (which makes the ASUS and just about every other brand of netbook that I reviewed a fingerprint magnet!)"

"The mini notebook NB305-N410BL Laptop has performed at and above my expectations. It was really hard to beat the price for such a small computer that is packed with so much power. When I finally realized that I did not need a clone of my much larger PC and did not need the DVD drive or some of the other peripherals that come with larger laptops, I bought this Toshiba notebook. What I have is a truly remarkable companion for travel. It's enhanced internet connection capability, integrated webcam and mic, high-capacity hard drvie, light weight, long battery life, and overal functionality will allow me to enjoy this laptop for many years to come."

"For the money, the quality and reliability and performance of this netbook cannot be beat, in my opinion. The battery life is amazing; at one time I had it going for nearly 9 hours ! The design, ergonomics and weight of the netbook are excellent. I especially like the silver keyboard because the black letters appear clearly even when dark, unlike with most netbooks from other companies. "I did lots of research before purchasing this netbook and I have been very pleased with the product. Toshiba did their research and produced a solid capable netbook. I was concerned about the keyboard size, but the Toshiba is very ergonomic. I've had no difficulty adjusting to the keyboard. I've experienced some diffuculty adjusting the touchpad settings to my cursor motion preference, but the touchpad is consistent and responsive. Power management tools are great! Recharge at night, and it gets though the whole day without a problem. Perfect for Internet, picture sharing, and basic productivity applications."

"I purchased my little netbook for two reasons: First, it came in very handy on my recent trip to Europe. I was able to transfer pictures from my camera's memory card, watch movies from my iPod and catch up on e-mails when I felt like it. Second (but really the primary reason) I am commuting to work on a train and need access to personal files and the internet - it is such a joy not to break my back lugging around a laptop. It is light with a great battery life. Since I upgraded it to full versions of Windows 7 and Microsoft Office I am able to use my commute time productively."

"The driving force in me buying a netbook was to lighten my load for travel. Lugging my laptop around when I am going on partial work, partial fun trips was getting to be a bit much. You can do almost everything with Windows Starter than you can with Windows 7. I was able to set up my VPN server accounts with no problem. I love the weight and feel of this laptop. I love the versatility it gives me for travel as it fits in my purse. The negatives are you can only upgrade the memory to 2 GB. I did this. Not sure how much of an improvement that was as I only used it twice with the 1 GB chip. The other huge disadvatage is that the processor is only a 1.66 Ghz and I need at least a 1.8 GHz to run QuickBooks. I am a bookkeeper and this was disapointing to find out. I cant run QB off of an external drive thus there are not any real options for viewing my QB files on the road with this laptop unless I put them on an outside server. This computer is simple meaning you can do about 2 or max 3 tasks at a time. When they sell it they say it is a single task program, but I loaded Outlook and can run that and MS Office programs at the same time and it works pretty good. This computer is not as fast as your main laptop so dont expect it to be. It is a nice light computer for doing email, internet browsing and some light work. I still think I am going to love it for the purpose I bought it for. The keyboard is just slightly smaller than a regular one and no problem getting used to. The screen is amazing and the hard drive is plenty big for just moving over my docs. I chose not to move over my photos and music to this netbook and have just kept them on my main laptop and external drive."

"I very much liked the appearance and consider that the resources it comes with are similar to those of a more expensive notebook in other brands. I found it practical, light and at the same time solid. In the other hand, it seems to me that it takes too much time to start and have had problems to validate the Microsoft preloaded software, it uses a torturing method where is necessary to find and submit a product key that comes in tiny letters. They don’t provide an email address where to ask for support."

The screen is also large enough and can adjust easily once I got the hang of it. Basically, it's just "nice" with lots of ports and "easy" taking up little space and good to carry. "While the battery life and small size of the Mini were the reasons why I bought this computer (seeing as my main laptop is heavy and has a very small battery life), this laptop can be very frustrating in that it the processor speed is rather slow due to the toshiba processes and the fact that it is 1 Ghz. The memory can be upgraded, but would not result in better performance because the processor is the limiting factor for the computer. The windows operating system that is installed is another point of cons because there is barely enough to do even the simpliest of applications. The quiet sound does not bother me as much because laptops are not supposed to be very loud. On the bright side the computer is super light in weight and picks up every wireless signal that is nearby. It also has an amazing battery life as long as you do not increase the brightness of the screen. The computer also has ample storage space, but not enough computing power to transfer files within a reasonable time frame (It took nearly an hour to transfer 20 GB of information from a PNY USB drive)"

"All in all, the NB305-N410xx Netbook Laptop is a fine product. It is one of the few Netbooks that come with a 250G Hard Drive instead of the standard 160G and since I plan to use this for storing travel photos, the extra capacity was what drove my purchase decision. However, the first things I did was upgrade from the suppled 1G RAM to 2G (the minimum required by my photo processing SW) and upgrade the Operating System from Win7 Starter to Win7 Home Premium. In reading other product reviews prior to purchase, I found many who bought this product did the same thing. I would recommend Toshiba offer these two options with the appropriate price structure. It would save the customers the hassle of doing the updates themselves. The only other issue is speaker quality. The sound quality reminds me of a 79-cent squeek toy. Not a deal breaker for me but I'm sure the speaker quality could be improved with little added cost. Keep up the good work, Toshiba. I also bought one of your portable Hard Drives as a backup for my photos."

"This is my first time using a netbook. I bought it to stay in contact with my e-mail on my last vacation. It definitely has some limitations but I have to say that I was impressed with it's light weight and how easy it was to travel with it. Sitting in my rental car outside of available Wi-Fi locations (McDonalds and the like) felt a bit clandestine unless I bought something at the drive-thru. Although the battery meter kept giving me different lenghts of runtime (usualls it started saying 4 hours - then 20 minutes later 6.5 hrs or more) It certainly continued to give me exceptional runtimes overall. I think I am averaging about 8 or 9 hours on a charge. The screen is bright and despite the small size, very clear and legible. Colors are vibrant and the keyboard feels solid and positive. I'm not impressed with the onboard sound but I may not have it set up yet for optimal sound output. I'm still working on this but - what can you really expect from a netbook? Overall I am quite happy with my purchase."

Having a netbook in general takes care of a majority of our computer needs, checking and sending emails and surfing the web. The only draw back we have found with this device is with the sound. Needs to be louder and speakers need to be moved from under the device. Overall, excellent devices, sturdy and good quality."

"I love this machine. It is so convenient because it's lightweight and easy to stow in my tote bag for traveling. It works wonderfully for e-mails, browsing, playing games, etc. and the battery life is longer than any computer I've had in the past. I also have an HP 17 inch laptop but I have found that I use the Toshiba 90% of the time because of the convenience. The only negatuve it would be the speakers. The are positioned under the computer so the sound is very soft and distorted. If you want to listen to music on it, this is not the computer for you."

I expected the keyboard to be hard to use but I find it equally as comfortable as my laptop keyboard. I expected the netbook battery to last longer than my laptop battery and it does -- perhaps three times as long."

"I almost didn't buy this computer because of how ugly it looked, but then I noticed that the battery lasted alot longer than the other ones and it was also the most expensive netbook. Windows 7 works great I found a way to change the background. It does show video a little blurry but it barely skips. One annoying thing about it though is that even a little shake can make the music or video on it skip which means its not good to use it while you carry it and I mean even the SLIGHTEST bump to it will make it mess up. It starts up really quickly and the screen is beautiful. I also love the webcam. I would recommend this netbook to a friend because it works just as good as most PCs and it has a lot of memory. I rate this netbook 9/10 compared to the other netbooks, but compared to a normal labtop 4/10 because its cleary inferior. Overall I'd say I'm pleased with the netbook if you don't play games on it, it works mostly perfect expect for the slight skip every once in a while."

"The Toshiba Mini Notebook is a wonderful tool to have around work, school, and home. I've been using it around home in every room whenever I need access. It's the first thing I check in the morning next to my coffee. It's better than a regular laptop because it is so small and light, but does everything I need it to. Even though I have it set up for my personal computing, I have watched family members reaching for it when they need to look something up quickly no matter what room they are in. I look forward to bringing it on vacation with me next week. It will be very convenient compared to the "lugging" I would have to do if I took a regular size laptop. This thing can fit in my purse!"

"I used to have a Dell Mini 9, and moved up to this. Though it has a bigger footprint than the Mini, the keyboard is terrific. And the battery life is phenomenal - I've gone from getting 3.5 hours on the Mini to 9 hours on the Toshiba. The 250GB hard drive is nice and roomy, holding all of my music and movies. Finally, Windows 7 runs great on this machine. I'm traveling to Asia for a month this fall, and will be confidently taking this with me to serve all of my needs. Double thumbs up, Toshiba."

"When we finally decided to consider getting a laptop for when we traveled, we hadn't considered a netbook. However, while looking at laptops while visiting our kids, our daughter suggested looking at a netbook. We looked at several regular laptops and netbooks and liked the Toshiba netbook. It's lighter weight and more compact than the regular laptops. The Toshiba keyboard is easier to read and use than other netbook brands. The price was good and we feel Toshiba has a good reputation for quality. We are very pleased with it. Since we have a desktop pc at home, we mainly bought it for travel, but we do use it at home when one of us is on the desktop or we just want to watch tv or something while computing. When we are visiting our kids and teenage grandkids, now we have a pc of our own to use instead of waiting for theirs to be available. Another plus is we can use it to watch movies on the plane."

"This netbook is the best example of this amazing product segment. [That sounds like marketing-speak.] It compares *very* favorably with my previous computer (a desktop). I haven't yet had any problems running any of the programs I run on any other computers. The netbook itself is sturdy, sleek, well-made, and generally excellent (like all Toshiba products I've owned). My one, extremely minor, gripe is that the supported resolutions for external displays are limited. I would have liked were it to support at least 1280×1024 (e.g. almost 1080p HD) for use with a monitor or HD TV."

"I did a lot of research before settling on the NB305 Toshiba netbook and am very pleased with the purchase. Toshiba engineering is their usual "excellent" -- very long battery life, built-in web cam, an automated product support feature already "on-board" at purchase make me certain that I selected the right light-weight product. I have only three issues with the out-of-the-box experience: 1. Like most of its comepetitors, Toshiba ships this unit with Windows 7 Starter edition. I upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium as soon as I got the machine up and running. Many users may be satisfied with Starter Edition but I am not. 2. The built-in speakers are weak and hard to hear. Aux speakers or headphones are definitely needed, especially with Skype. 3. The 1 gig of RAM as purchased was marginal for my needs (I run Adobe Lightroom 3 on my Toshiba) so I upgraded to 2 gigs via the online Toshiba store. The RAM upgrade takes less that 5 minutes to accomplish). Very glad I settled on this model and I recommend it to anyone on the go that needs a reliable and full featured netbook. We use this around the house extensively, as well, and it saves us trips upstairs to use our MAC."

"Very nice size and feel and not heavy at all. It is a okay keyboard for short emails and internet chats. I can see it being a bad and hard keyboard for typing long papers. The touch pad is very nice and has a good feel to it. The battery life for for is a max of 6 hrs. I am using low power and get 6hrs so I am not sure how to get there 11hr life. It is faster then I was planing it to be so that is good. The only thing is there are a lot of net book out there with almost the same hardware specs. For a lot cheaper then this one. So I am not really sure if this one is any better then like the other cheaper ones. Any net book is not going to be very fast and and the best. So I think this net book you do not get your moneys worths. I had to send my pc back to them for hardware repair. I only had my pc for 3 weeks. So I think all pc brands now are all the same. I wouldn't do anything too crazy with it, just the simple email/internet/etc. Can't have too many applications open at the same time otherwise it slows the whole thing down. It's not very skype friendly, or rather skype seems like it takes too much memory to run. So either the netbook has to improve features to accomodate or skype needs to develop a program that runs with lower memory. Otherwise, it's good for the price and easy use, handy for traveling."

After I got this netbook I partitioned the drive and put windows 7 (Ultimate) on one side and Jolicloud on the other side just to test it. Both systems work great... and fast too. I really thought it would bog down and that I would have rush to put in the second gig of ram, but it does just fine with only 1 gig of ram. Video and streaming have been awesome and the wireless has been great so far. Perhaps the best feature is the Keyboard. It was originally intended for school purposes only, but I now have about 40 Gigs of movies/music/apps downloaded which I regularly sync with my Ipod Touch (and it works great). For the price, you cannot beat it. It looks good, its small and lightweight, it has lots of memory, it has a webcam which I have already used to skype and it works well, plus enough processing power to where I never really notice that its slow or anything. Plus it has Wi-Fi that works really fast at school. Downloading powerpoints is never a problem. I would definitely recommend this laptop to any poor college student who also would like to use for music/storing media. I never had any need to multi-task fifty different screens anyway. :)"

"This is a great mini netbook to start out with. There are some built-in features I personally did not like which I turned off. The standard memory and battery are fine for brining to class and taking notes. I stopped bringing the power cord to school because even my 2.5 hour class would not use up the battery life on this mini. I don't like the scroll in place feature that seems to come back after you turn it off. I will have to deal with support on that later. I also do not like the left/right mouse buttons which round down toward the front of the unit. If you occasionally have the mini actually on your lap and you don't have six-pack abs, you may inadvertently press one or both of the mouse buttons. Having access to a cd-rom drive is essential in order to install programs which require such a drive in order to be installed. Sometimes you can get away with using a USB drive. This still requires having a machine somewhere that puts the data from the CD onto the USB. One VERY good point about this mini is that there are two partitions containing restoration data for the operating system and programs. You will need CD's or USB drives for this. I created mine and put them in my fireproof safe. You can also purchase restore disks from Toshiba."

WHEN TYPING, LETTERS AND SPACES ARE FREQUENTLY OMITTED REQUIRING THE USER TO REDO MANY WORDS AND SENTENCES. EITHER THE COMPUTER IS TOO SLOW TO DETECT THE KEYS TYPED (THIS IS UNLIKELY AS I AM A SLOW TYPIST) OR THE KEYBOARD SIMPLY DOES NOT DETECT THE KEYS BEING TYPED. EITHER WAY, THE KEYBOARD IS UNSATISFACTORY. A SECOND PROBLEM INVOLVES THE BATTERY WHICH IS ADVERTISED AS HAVING A STORAGE LIFE OF 11 HOURS BUT WHEN FULLY CHARGED SHOWS ONLY 7 HOURS OF SERVICE."

"I used to have an HP with the same characteristics, and it was much more faster, best features and practical. This computer is slow and too basic on the features. Just to mention some failures, the function (FN) button sometimes work and some others don't, the sound system is terrible and the speaker are poor quality and almost nonexistent in comparison with other similar computers. If you use headphones there is always a "zoom" noise in the back that makes very unpleasing to try to listen music in privacy. Some times I regret changing the brand"

"I do love my toshiba and find that the battery life & power saving mode is excellent. The toshiba netbook works quickly and is increibly light in weight (which was a major selling point for me). It has an almost normal sized keyboard-- or at least is very easy to type on. My only complaint at the moment is that the volume does not get high enough to comfortably watch a movie on the netbook. Even listening to youtube videos is difficult. I might have to buy some little speakers."

"I had a Dell Inspiron Mini 10 before purchasing the Toshiba NB305. The Dell died after 6 months because it had a known issue. The Toshiba has a health monitor that tells me the status of the hard drive, battery and processor temp. I love that it is supported with software updates from Toshiba. First time I turned it on infact Toshiba had released updated drivers for hardware for problems that were slightly noticed before I could give it any thought. I even was able to optain software from Toshiba to allow me to use Face Recognition software for log in. In short it is a very good product, with very good support. I feel like a lot of thought went into this product."

"My NB305 netbook has worked well for me in the first month of service. I installed 2 GB memory and have yet to have the machine crash by running too many programs. The starter version of Windows 7 loads and shuts down fast and I have had no hardware issues. The keyboard is a little small and takes some getting used to. It would be nice if the original install on the machine contained a full version of Office rather than the trial version."

"The absolute best thing about this netbook besides its small size/light weight is that the battery goes forever! I am often somewhere where I just want to work for a few minutes or it's not convenient to plug in. I can use the computer for hours (maybe at least 6, over multiple uses) without having to recharge. Then I can just recharge overnight at home. Another great thing is the time to boot up/shut down. Unlike a standard laptop, you can get into it and turn it off relatively quickly, so it really is possible to work for 10 minutes since you don't have to spend 5 of them turning it on and off. Keyboard and screen size are decent for such a small machine and the keyboard feel normal--not mushy or overly stiff. Of course, it's easy to hit the wrong keys on anything that small, even though my fingers are thin, but it's manageable. And I can carry it in my Purse! Things to improve: cursor jumps around constantly when you use the touchpad so it's a good idea although not always practical to use a compact plug-in mouse; ability to zoom in and out in screen size is very helpful but also gets "caught" and starts self-adjusting; and the glare outdoors makes it almost impossible to see the screen (maybe there's something that can go over the screen to make it visible in bright sunlight?). Great machine that makes me very productive! A little more expensive than the other models I looked at (and I looked at a lot!), but well worth the money."

In Internet explorer if you type faster than a hunt and peck typist you will notice 1 or 2 charcters out of 10 did not type properly. Does not have issues in Microsoft Word. I've upgraded the RAM to 2 gigs before loading all my required software to handle business on the road. Battery life is great, weight is easy, size is nice. Main reason we got this was to Skype with, travel with, and the ease of surfing the web on a lighter system with longer battery life. "Netbooks have become a bit more powerful, and a bit more useful over the years. Power conservation is key to many mobile users. Smart phones are great, but the battery usage can be difficult, and of course typing on such a small keyboard extremely difficult. The next best machine is a netbook such as the NB 305, which is small, light, and with amazing battery power. I use this primarily for work, and not to watch videos. It connects up with my business server, uses all the software I need to use, and lasts forever. I'm taking it overseas to China in a couple of days, so I'll see how convenient it is. But at this point, I'll at least be able to get across the Pacific on one charge."

They say you'll get up to 11 hours of battery life. I'm lucky to get 6 hours. "The laptop is one of the nicer looking and well built netbooks I looked at during my search and it has good features. I primarily bought the Toshiba NB305 due to the 11 hour battery life. However not only do I not get 11 hours with economy power and reduced brightness, after a full charge it tells me it is 100% charged and states 8 hours 35 minutes and 10 minutes later it says 8 hours 55 minutes and then 30 minutes later it might say 7 hours and 20 minutes, it is all over the board. Only once did a full charge state 10 hours and 35 mniutes and then it went down to 8 hours+ in under 30 minutes. Also, it loses a great deal of battery power when turned off, even though I've disabled the usb sleep function which I thought might be draining the battery it still loses power between each usage. The battery test shows the battery is good. This has been quite frustrating, especially since I'll be traveling to an area with no power and was hoping to at least get a good bit of power out of the netbook for a week. Did I really expect 11 hours, of course not, but I did expect the power to be quite a bit more stable. Other than that the netbook is functional and the keyboard is nice, however it is a bit slower than my 16" Sony laptop but that is to be expected with a Netbook. If you don't care about battery performance and are fine with a 7 hour battery, the Toshiba is a nice netbook."

Anytime you revert to using a smartphone to quickly look for something on the web because it is 3X faster at processing than your computer, somethings wrong. I used (suffered) it for a week and then put myself out of my misery and traded it in for a MacBook. Too bad too, as I loved the size, weight and price point. But if the machine does not even perform to the minimal of expectations any positive is quickly washed away. It seems to me that the OS on the machine, even stripped down, is still way to bulky for the Atom processor. Blame Wintel I guess."

I upgraded to Windows 7 home premium and installed the Toshiba 2 GB RAM (great deal on this). I can do just about everything with my netbook that I can do with my primary notebook computer - screen size adequate for most of my needs except for detailed photo editing. The only minor complaint I have is that the battery appears to lose some of its charge if it sits unused for more than a week. I overcome this by doing file transfers and WEB work couple of times a week on the Toshiba netbook. You can't beat the value and size/weight of the NB305-N410 for your travel needs, and it also isn't a bad main computer if you have space limitations at home or away at school."

"I would have given this netbook an overall rating of excellent if the audio had been even average. The speaker can barely be heard over even a quiet room noise. Battery life is outstanding. The keyboard and display are great. The computer has the look and feel of quality hardware. It is easy to upgrade the memory from 1 to 2 GB and I did that. The built-in wireless works superbly. The touch pad is fine. Everything except the speaker is top of the line. That's sad. This could have been a really great little computer, though I'm not at all sorry I bought it. It is a delight to travel with."

The display is already out and it's it was sent out from the local store in FL to their repair center and the process takes at least 2 weeks so now we have to wait. I wouldn't use this if it were my main work computer, but I think it's fine for average home use. Let's see how it is in 2 to 3 years, however, when most computers start to self-destruct."

I upgraded the memory to the 2 gig version and it speeded it up a little, but still runs pretty slow compared to my macbook. This laptop is the answer to all of my needs. Very nice screen, fast start-up/shutdown and very good battery life. It does everything I have asked and then some. "I'm a writer with small hands. I wanted a laptop to help me write whenever inspiration strikes. I didn't need all the bells and whistles. I didn't want some-thing too large. Just something compact like a portable word processor w/ internet capability. I had always admired the functionality of Toshiba laptops. My NB305 is absolutely the perfect tool for my mobile needs. The size and weight is not cumbersome and the arrangement of the keyboard is ideal for my small hands. I have accomplished more with my netbook in the past month than I have with my antiquated desk top computer in the previous six months. Whoever designed the NB305 had someone like me in mind. I am most appreciative. Thank you Toshiba!"

Second, the absence of user documentation except by internet is a problem. I thought MS Office was included but there is no code to activate it that I can find and nothing tells me how to aquire Office. Do I have to buy this as an add-on? "I have owned several laptops, one of which was a netbook. Toshiba's Netbook is head and shoulders above the others. The biggest plus is the extended battery life. Most others last 2-3hrs, but 11 hours, wow! I still have not used all the features like skype but the pc maintenance tools that Toshiba has built in work great. The only draw back to this netbook is the 1GB of RAM but very few others include more. I did upgrade it myself to 2GB without any difficulty. I never even thought of using Toshiba until I heard about Toshiba developing an SDXC card that offers 64GB with the potential of up to 2TB. I knew then that Toshiba was not a small time player in the computer market but on the cutting edge of technology, so I decided to give them a try and I have not been disappointed since."

"I needed a small highly portable notebook with a good battery life. I am a beginning writer and want to run word processing and creative writing software and be able to use it fully without worrying about a 4 or 5 hour limit before the battery flops. Toshiba has produced a product that, for its price, is one of the best values on the market today. It touts an 11 hour battery and has, under normal usage, a minimum of 8 hours. Couldn't ask for better. The display is clear and bright, and it has a good sized hard drive. I am running Windows 7 Professional and a handful of writing apps that fit my portability needs as well as having the built-in wifi for the internet. This makes research available as well as writing. The keyboard is small (I have large hands), but is usable with a solid and comfortable feel. Easy to get used to. I couldn't think of a mini that is better suited to real portability with power! I have already recommended it to people looking at netbooks and will continue to recommend it highly. Great machine!!!"

Battery life so far is excellent. As with most other reviewers, I wish the speakers were better - really can't hear without headphones/external speakers. which is too bad. I'd love to be able to sit on the couch and watch Netflix or set it up in the kitchen while I'm cooking without having to hook up speakers. Keyboard size is great - tab key is a bit too narrow, but it's an amazing size for such a tiny footprint. But overall I'm very happy."

I bought a cool pad to use when I do that. I do use a portable mouse since I have a difficult time with the touch pad. I don't miss any advanced features of Home Premium. I believe Starter is faster for netbooks. Toshiba puts in way too many other software packages that just take up a lot of time to uninstall. The lack of a restore DVD or internet download of it is a negative. But the battery life is excellent. I get at least 9 hours of use before a charge is needed. This is important especially when power outlets are scarce. All in all a very nice unit and my top rated netbook."

"I've resisted using a laptop because I dislike carrrying things around, paricularly if they have some weight to them. The Toshba N305-410, at just over 2.5 pounds has handled that objection. I take this machine everywhere. It works for me in every way I need it. I'm not a technical user, nor a heavy user. But I haven't enjoyed a computer more than this one."

I wanted to change the home page in Internet Explorer in Tools > Internet Options >I type in the new page name but I can not click on Apply because it is not visable on the bottom of screen. "I love it. I debated for about 5 months on what I wanted and finally ordered the Toshiba. I wanted something small and portable and user friendly and it was perfect. I had anaother toshiba laptop so I was somewhat prejudiced to that brand. I took it on a recent trip to NYC and found it just perfect to check my emails and work on a few small projects and organzied my pictures on the flight. My husband enoyed using it for the gams... I'm sure I will enjoy it on my trip to Europe this summer also. As a day to day computer I would probably find it too small but for traveling it is wonderful. I thought I would have to upgrade to 2 gb but so far it is enough for what I need so I'm glad I decided to wait to order the additional memory."

"I purchased this mini-notebook to serve as a go between for my memory card readers (I do a lot of digital photography) and an external hard drive for dumping the files and being able to clear and re-use the memory cards the next day (both SD and Compact flash). I maxed out the ram to two gigs, and did a windows anytime upgrade to Windows 7 home premium. I must say I am totally delighted with this little computer. The performance is reasonable, it is nice and light weight to carry! A far better purchase than a 500 dollar + Epson memory card reader and dumper-that device cannpt surf the web or send email:) I use the built in SD card reader for Windows Ready Boost-I have a 4 gig Sandisk SD card dedicated to the task. It is nice to know also that is my external usb card reader goes belly-up on the road, I have the built in unit to use as a backup. If you liike the keyboard style of the Apple Macbook, this unit duplicates the feel of that down to a T-one of tjhe major reasons I chose this netbook (I'm a hunt and p typist not a touch typist, but even I appreciate subtle keyboard improvements) Well done Toshiba!"

"I have owned this for just over a month. The wireless card has given me alot of trouble. It keeps disconnecting from the router or not finding the wireless routers at all. I have tried this on both my two routers, a friends place with two routers and on a business trip at two hotels. I was only successful at my place, it wouldnt connect at any of the other places. Even at my place it drops the connections every day, even at full strength signal. I have tried updating the driver, with no success, and rolling back the driver. Other than not having reliable internet unless it is hardwired in with Cat 5 cable, and that internet surfing is a bit slow, the rest of the features are good. Hope they offer a fix for this issue."

Before I got it I was afraid that the screen would be too small, but it is totally fine. If you are a gamer you might need a bigger screen, but for school and work it's totally fine. The only thing I did not like was that I cannot change the Desktop pic. I did not have any trouble with the volume of the speakers. Graphics are very clear. "I chose the Toshiba even though I knew the iPad was coming out soon because I had borrowed a friend's and LOVED it...the touchpad and keyboard are fantastic. I would much rather type on a real keyboard than on a virtual one. The NB-305 is small enough to fit in a big purse, and it is perfect for travel...even if only going to the bookstore for a cup of coffee and some R & R. One concern I have is backing up the hard drive on a jump drive. I am not having success, even though I'm using an 8G flash drive as recommended. Not sure that it is really a problem, since supposedly the netbook has its own backup restore program if necessary. This is a WAY better-built machine that the popular Asis in my opinion...spend the extra $50...which you will discover if you try before you buy."

"I have a laptop as my regular computer, but found that disconnecting it and lugging it around was a drag. I investigated netbooks and saw the Toshiba NB305-N410BL. While it was highly rated, would I like it? I tried the keyboard at the store, and it seemed ok. (I'm an excellent touch typist, and my hands are very sensitive, too.) I also tried the touch pad and compared it to other netbooks in the store. It is a REAL touchpad, not the toy I saw in other brands. Obviously one of the most important features of any computer is the "human interface." I've had it now about 2 months and absolutely LOVE IT. The keyboard feels good and I type just fine on it. I bought a cordless mouse for it, but don't always take it out; the touch pad is fine - again, it's a real touch pad. I take it everywhere with me because it's so easy to carry. I charge it at night and skip taking the cord with me because of the good battery life. I use it now more than I even thought I would. It's fun to take to a bookstore, sit in the coffee shop area, sign in to WiFi and look up book reviews of books I might buy... Look up recipes and keep it on the kitchen counter while I cook... Note that I don't ordinarily take the time to write a review. However, If I sound enthusiastic about this, I am! I love it and the change in lifestyle that came with it."

Much lighter, more mobile, better battery life than my fullsize Toshiba laptop at home-- they make great companions. Easy transition between keyboards. "A great value for the money. With the advent of Open Office, this makes for a low cost travel addition. The sound quality could be improved. It would be wise for Toshiba to set up better initial equalizer settings. Way to many apps preloaded and begging for attention, esp the crippled apps. The build in cam is ok, but additional controls for the cam (white balance and brightness) would be welcome so it can be used outdoors or indoors. Overall, and excellent machine. Glad I bought it."

"I have had this computer for about 4-6 weeks, taken it on business trips abroad, used it at home, etc. I am extremely frustrated at what must be a defect with the on-board speakers -- they are incredibly low and nothing I do seems to work to make them close to normal audible. A second gripe is the touchpad, which seems to have a mind of its own and does not respond to one and two finger touches the same way twice. The keyboard itself has a nice tactile response and is fine for typing. However, I'm surprised it is not back-lit, or least has a backlit option. Finally, it takes quite a while to boot up, but I understand from colleagues that many netbooks have this problem. On the positive side is the battery life. I've used this for many hours (never consciously tried to run it out) -- but I've gotten at least 7-9 hours use, over several sessions without recharging."

"I have been researching and window shopping netbooks for the past 8 months or so, and narrowed down my interests to three, which one included the Toshiba NB-205; predecessor to the NB-305. A number of things have kept me from purchasing the NB-205, such as reviews of very low speaker sound and an over sized battery sticking out the back. But, even with those minor feature drawbacks, the NB-205 was still an exceptional machine. So, naturally when I heard that the NB-305 would be released with better speaker sound (stereo vs. mono), a newer, faster processor that would extend the battery life to about 11 hours and gone is the over sized battery, I immediately got my credit card out and ordered the NB-305. Not only is the performance better, but the computer has been slimmed down and is even more stylish. Toshiba also has some great software on it that helps maintain your computer's health, in addition to media and organization software for business and fun. This is a great mini with a lot of potential."

I tried the keyboards and layouts of every netbook I could find before settling here. This machine will be used for blogging and emails while traveling around the US and abroad. The only rub I have was that gmail video chat was choppy with 1 GB of RAM, hence the 4 star rating for performance. I upgraded to 2 GB and I haven't had a chance to try out gmail video yet. "The NB305 performs very nicely as a netbook. I am able to perform the simple tasks I expected to such as web surfing and chatting. The integrated camera is a nice touch. The size, weight, and battery life are the best features and I am able to take it everywhere I go. The built in wi-fi works great. I did not like all the extra software included from Toshiba but I guess that kind of stuff comes with any computer you buy. I just removed what I knew I wouldn't use. Overall I am very impressed."

"The purpose of this purchase was a netbook that had good battery life and was good for keeping in touch while traveling. Nothing more than email, facebook and a spreadsheet needed. This netbook does all that and more. Win7 is great. I don't need to change things just have a good, solid travel computer."

"Ultra light great battery life - as far as netbooks are concerned, this one is the best, the keyboard is big enough for adult hands to use without typing woes of some of the smaller keyboard netbooks and the ultra lightness of the unit makes it great for travel. Upgrading the OS is a must, Windows 7 Starter was just too limited, I also upgraded to 2gb of Ram to speed this little monster up."

"Although this is my first netbook, I am enjoying it. The only thing missing is the extra GB of RAM which I still need to have installed. The computer could run faster, but that's because I like to keep several programs open at a time. The keyboard takes getting used to, but is not bad at all. I only have trouble with some keys on the top; the tab button is very small, which could and should be made larger in later models. I downloaded Windows 7 Home and love it. Lots more options, and great screensavers and backgrounds! I love the webcam and now use Skype all the time... The little computer is so easy to carry around the house with me, to give family members in other towns tours, and easily video chat so that my daughter can see family out of town, her traveling grandparents, etc. The size is a plus. I also love having it open right next to my everyday laptop if I am doing research, so I have two screens. They don't work together, but I can view two websites full-size at once. It gets very hot, so get a cooling pad. Also, it doesn't fit in the small Belkin case. I got an HP one that works well. Overall, I love this laptop. It compliments my Mac, giving me access to full Windows programs and Microsoft as well. Excited to get the extra memory. Any suggestions on how to do that???"

"I have never owned a laptop that didn't seem to give me problems. This laptop is no exception. After only having it for a few weeks it would not shut down properly. When it finally did shut down and I went to reboot it a message came up saying I shut it down improperly(I guess going to start and selecting shut down isn't how to do it). When I turn the laptop on it tends to have a black scene with a very thin white line across the top of the scene for several seconds before anything happens."

"Great ergonomics, terrific battery life. Only negative is the sound from the speakers. Sound with headphones is quite acceptable, but speakers are tinny - maybe this is as good as speakers can be in such a small package. I wish there were an option to get 2 MB rather than 1 MB of memory with original purchase. (An additional 2 MB memory chip is reportedly easy to install, but then the original 1-MB chip is wasted.)"

"I purchased my Toshiba notebook after doing a bit of research. I'm the type of person that really can't stand the thought of buying something and having it fall apart a week later. While there were much cheaper alternatives the reliability of this product is what sold me. The only downfall is that it is a little slow...but this is obviously to be expected with a notebook currently. All in all a very nice and well built machine."

"I bought this laptop for the simple reason of travel. I work overseas and this little computer does all I need to stay connected and for my entertainment. It plays all my movies really well and has enough storage for all my music. I am able to connect to the internet and able to stay connected to family and friends back on the mother land. My favorite program that comes on this mighty mouse computer is the Toshiba Board, where I can customize this board and have little sticky notes on the board to complete all my task, pictures of the family, and a to do list for all my activities. Top reason of buying this NB305 was the battery life that comes with the computer; that is right you don’t have to buy another battery for this mighty mouse. It comes with a 6 cell battery that will provide your mighty mouse with enough power for over 10 hours, you can not beat that. Thanks Toshiba!!!!"

"The initial boot was easy and the system came up as well as any others I have purchased in the past and there have been many. The Windows 7 Starter software seems quite stable and much better than Vista. I use the laptop while traveling and the 250GB drive is adequate for the applications I plan to use on it including fairly heavy spreadsheet programs. It still boots quickly with all the software loaded and a large number of photos installed. A number of my older software programs aren't compatilble with windows 7 although there is a fairly comprehesive number of compatiblity programs installed to handle the most common program upgrades. I suggest using the on-board activation software since I found Windows 7 downloads from the security sites haven't caught up yet. If you have a previousl license for a security program chances are it won't be accepted by windows 7. This is not a reflection on the computer however. I haven't performed a timed battery test but I can say the battery time is close to the stated claims. In any case it's adequate."

"This is my first netbook, but I got tired of lugging my big 16" laptop around. I get a ton of compliments on its size, and speaking as someone who regularly commutes on a bus, I can attest to the fact that this is the perfect size computer if you're restricted to the width of your body for computing room. Very long-life battery (up to 10-11 hours depending on how you configure power level settings). I upgraded the memory and replaced the base Windows 7 Starter to Win 7 Home, and it runs just fine. Fan can get kinda loud if you left this running overnight, but then again -- I only found this out when I was doing a massive file transfer of files from my older desktop and had to leave the netbook on overnight. I play a lot of casual games online, and the touchpad is very responsive. The only thing I wish this had was the option to turn off the touchpad with a button like my big 16" laptop does. I wouldn't play a first-person shooter with this, mind, but if you wanted to run MS Office, email, chat, download a video, listen to music from a certain fruit-named music store, and were looking for a highly portable yet powerful netbook to do that all in, I'd highly recommend checking this out. The downside to this netbook is pretty much the same for any netbook: screen size is not something I'd stare at for the entire 10-11 hours of battery life five days a week. Additional caveat: the base installation comes with some Toshiba-specific software that may or may not be to a user's liking."

This wasn't the fault of the machine, but of the program which, while necessary to me, isn't the best constructed. I needed a more portable computer for email, internet, and word processing on the go...This machine does all that with a remarkably comfortable keyboard (the space bar and TAB key is a little smaller than I'm used to but easy to adapt too). First I removed Windows 7 starter and installed Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10, everything worked straight out the box! Programs load up instantly, screen is crisp and clear. I opt'd for the 250MB HD so I could take my music and personal files on the road."
