"Keyboard is excellent, as is battery life. Wish more than Windows 7 starter had been available direct from Toshiba, as upgrading is a bit of a pain. This is the best netbook I could find, and it's been great in the "real world.""

"I wanted something small to travel with and I picked this netbook due to full size key board, battery life and price. I plan on doing mostly writing and internet browsing so didn't need huge amounts of flash and stuff. My only issue at this point is that the software is mostly starter (read: trial) so needs to be converted, which can be expensive and time consuming."

"Bought this as a small traveling substitute for my laptop. The sound is awful - very hard to hear! I'm told by othrs it's the nature of the beast. The screen doesn't present well in sunshine. The battery only shows 4+ hrs - not 8 or 9"

"This laptop ... I mean netbook that acts like a laptop ... is really incredible. I love everything about it, except the keyboard performance delay. With the 2GB memory upgrade, though, it's fantastic. Highly Recommended. You should buy this."

"This is a great little computer! I HIGHLY recommend it to anybody that travels and/or uses their computer on the go. It operates and functions exactly like its bigger brothers and is MUCH easy to take on the go. I'm actually going to purchase another as a give for my girlfriend who also travels a lot and has an aging laptop. Don't let the size fool you! This little thing is awesome and the battery lasts for ever (about 4-7 hrs depending on use) and doesn't heat up that much."

"I bought NB305-02P (brown) a couple of weeks ago. Much to my surprise netbook color was tied to its configuration and the one I wanted (black) came stripped down to the bone - no bluetooth, small HDD, non-tiled keyboard.
Watch out for hot pixels in the LCD. The first unit I got had a bright blue pixel in the top third of the screen, so wasted an hour returning it.
I bought NB305 for software development on the go and it works great for this. Comes back from the sleep much faster than my IBM ThinkPad, runs Visual Studio Express 2008 without any problems and builds projects quite fast.
One thing that made me chose Toshiba over other netbooks was the keyboard - I just can't stand keyboards that don't have a bit of a space between the spacebar and the bottom rows of keys. NB305 is just great with this respect.
I upgraded memory for NB305 to 2GB, but only after some legwork. I had to return the first memory stick I bought (PNY) because it was incompatible with NB305, even though it matched everything Toshiba cared to mention in the manual. I called Toshiba and they said that there's no particular memory they can recommend and advised to try Kingston, but make sure to buy RAM from a store that would take memory back if it doesn't work. I bought Kingston's KTT1066D3S/2G and it worked just fine."

"My desk top is about 8 years old. So instead of spending big bucks for a new desk top, I bought this note book. I use it for just the basics, email, web browsing. As expected with the screen so small, you do a lot of scrolling. Overall I'm happy with it. If you want a lot of bells and whistles, get a laptop."

"I got this because I need to use email for my work frequently and I did not like coping with the limitations of a mobile phone. This is small enough to tuck into my bag and when I can find wifi, I am in great shape. Also use at home and saves power over my desktop when I need to monitor email. Just wish I have included more memory and a full Windows 7."
Great Machine, Poor OS September 18, 2010

"The hardware is very reliable. The only knock on the product is its use of Windows 7 Starter. This OS is another in a long line of Microsoft miscues. It slows the entire system down and is constantly trying to control your life. Toshiba would be better served to use Linex on all of its computers. My score for the machine would be much higher if I didn't have to constantly struggle with Windows 7. As an example, the one time the system completely froze was when I tried to access Bing using Explorer. The OS has trouble interacting with with its own proprietary browsers."

"Lightweight, rugged, great battery life, large keyboard. NB305 netbook is great. The only problem is that it needs more RAM. RAM cannot be upgraded (supposedly Toshiba is fixing this). The unit comes standard with 1GB DDR3 RAM, and can be upgraded to 2GB max. When a 2GB is inserted, the netbook cycles on and off and will never start. Toshiba says this is a problem with DDR3 compatability with the N455 Atom chipset and that a module was going to available at the end of August 2010. Haven't seen it yet (Toshiba???)"

"after using my N305 for a couple of months the only complaints that I have is the slowness and the windows 7 starter OS. if you are going to get one of these make sure to get the highest RAM that you can especially if you are getting the win 7 starter on it (and not the win XP as comes standard on most netbooks). the win 7 is not very user friendly when trying to make adjustments (like changing the desktop which is not an option so you have to live with the one provided). the 1 GB of memory that came standard with my system is really slow. Other than that this product is good for the occasional web browsing"

"I purchased this netbook to take when I travel. It is much lighter and smaller than my laptop and enables me to keep in touch with friends by email. I took it with me this month when I went to NY and it is so much easier to take than a laptop when you travel. It has many of the same features as my laptop."

"I just began a Masters program, and purchased this notebook to use for note taking, web searches, etc in a classroom. I have only been in class for a week, but so far it has been a great tool to have. One of my big concerns was battery life, and this notebook lives up to the advertising of 8-9 hours. I am a bit disappointed in the operating speed, and may have to upgrade it to 2 vs 1. Not happy about the extra cost to do that. I have not added Office software as yet, so it might slow down even more. Overall, I am happy with it so far."

Featured a feature that does not work.... August 12, 2010

"Before I bought this laptop I looked at the features and said the RAM was upgradeable to 2GB DDR3 but when I installed the new ram the netbook would not boot so I thought it was a compatibility issue but to my surprise everyone who tried to upgrade their ram had the same problem with 2GB DDR3 RAM sticks. So if you plan on upgrading the RAM on this send Toshiba an email to fix this problem. If you are not gonna upgrade the RAM on this (even though its very helpful for a performance boost) then this netbook is perfect. It has very long battery life, the performance is good enough for internet and msn, etc... It would be better if 2GB RAM was actually usable by this machine. I used to be a Toshiba fan but now I'm not sure if I'll ever purchase one of their products again. If they would quickly release a bios update that would fix this problem i would gladly change my rating on this product."

"I've had this netbook for 3 months now. It is sufficient for basic web browsing/emailing and trading stock. Even with the extra ram upgrade, there's a slight delay in loading the web pages which I didn't expect. Hulu video watching is choppy and terrible. Speakers? Ha! What speakers??? Can't hear the speakers at all. Screen resolution looks good, but can't open programs that requires higher than 1024 x 600. Bottom of the laptop doesn't get super hot, but it does get comfortably warm. Great battery life- 6+ hours.
Good: emailing, stock trading, battery life
Bad: speakers, hulu video watching"

There are many thing that I am unable to do which I was able to do with my previous netbook (Asus) at a significantly lower price."
