"The computer is solid -- not cheaply made, and the battery life is excellent! I had an ASUS netbook and it was flimsy and hard to type on. The keyboard on the Toshiba is MUCH better! This is not a gamer computer, but I use it mostly for taking notes, email, etc. when I'm away from the office. I'd recommend it to anyone! The only thing that I would improve is its 2 GB system memory (with upgrade) - it's still a little slower that I would like."

"Simply put I was looking for something small, light weight, etc. to take with me when I traveled. Something that would allow internet and email for the most but able to watch a dvd if that was my desire. I searched and compared diligently and ended up selecting the Toshiba NB305-N600. Overall I have found it to be quite acceptable, however, as is almost always the case nothing is perfect. I was disappointed to find that I could not do a total recovery as I have always been able to do with all previous computers. I don't know about anyone else but probrams are so complicated these days that it is all but inevitable that any computer I own will eventually totally stop functioning. This causes me to desire the "total recovery option" as in return to just like it came out of the box. This came with Windows 7 starter so maybe if I upgrade, for a cost, I will have the total recovery feature that I am used to. One last note, the volume on this notebook is non existent. I don't know if it is just the design or if I have a defective computer. Only time will tell if I figure it out."

"This laptop is slow and oftentimes fails to carry out simple commands. It is particualrly unresponsive on the internet, as compared to other computers I use on the same wireless system. It is so inefficient and slow that I have stopped using the laptop for internet use. In short, this is a poor excuse for a legitimate netbook."

"Have had my unit for 3 days now and ready to return.
Runs super hot (never under 57C) and yet bus clock sticks at 305MHz (CPU 0.68GHz) (it should be able to step up to 667MHz/1.5GHz). Tried on bundled Win7 Starter as well as fresh Win7 64bit and Fedora 16 64 bit. No difference. Multi Core and Dynamic and Execute Bit enabled in BIOS. Tried everything but couldn't bump WEI CPU Score over 1.7. Needless to say, I'm very disappointed."

"I've owned the NB305-N600 for 6 mos and I'm pretty happy with it. What you are buying with this netbook is a hard disk 3D sensor, a beautiful hard shell around the computer, and easy access to the hard disk and memory compartments. Otherwise it's the same old boring netbook spec we've seen for years. Having said that, this machine is tough enough to work again and again in Economy Class of a budget airline. If you bump up the memory to 2GB, upgrade Window 7 to Home Premium, and stay away from heavy graphics use, the NB305-N600 has enough power to write email and read PDF documents. Watching streamed video is just about the limit of this machine's capabilities."

"solid performing netbook. Does well in everyday activities at home, and does quite well for most office use. Found it to perform well in most office duties, except U tube use, and is great for those who travel. Would have been nice to have a D drive partition that was blank included for a needed back up of the original software and registry. Just install windows 7 service pack one AFTER you have done all your other updates ( much better performance). High value and daily performance out of this small package for a good price"

"Not sure why everybody is complaining about the battery life; it's pretty good to me...
This netbook is good for just browsing and checking your e-mail (hence the "netbook"). My parents gave this netbook to me as a preset and I have no problem with it. The only problem is that it's very laggy (maybe too much crapware...) I used to use Windows, but I converted to Linux and it runs smoothly."

The combination of light, compact design, with a good keyboard, and reasonable performance (I run Windows 7 etc. without extra memory) are impressive. Also, I dropped my new NB305 on concrete by mistake but no ill effects. I give lots of presentations, so the VGA and three USB ports are ideal for me."

"Nice little machine. Needs the memory upgrade to 2GB to improve speed...it would have been nice if the thing came with 2GB installed. Seems a waste to have to throw out the installed 1GB memory, but what else to do with it? Battery life is no where near the reported life. Normal use i.e. internet, e-mail, etc. and the battery is good for maybe 4 - 6 hours. Nice style, touch pad and keys are nice...overall good quality construction."

"I purchased the entire Everything to make this netbook more worthy of use. By doing so It meets all my requirements. (I have other computers for more speedy, technical uses.) This is a very handy tool for the traveler, be it across the country or, over to the Grands for shareing fotos and such. Good preloaded programs to start with, yet I upgraded right away for school.
Sleek, small, much easier to truck to & fro school. The battery last for-friggen-ever compared to other similar netbooks. Price? Nice price for the entire get-uo too!
With the Ram Upgrade it is perfect, not lightning but great speed. The wireless works very well, no complaints. Storage is par. I purchased the external DVD-RW Blueray which is a great thing to have.
If I were to complain, it would be the size of the cleaning-kit that came with it. Just because the netbook is smaller...doesn't mean the cleaner bottle and brush, micro cloth have to be shrunken. LOL No big deal though, I am kidding. I did pick up another caryy case, as the sleve was not up to my requirements. [the Case should hold everything plus pens and small items necessary for functioning; THAT could be improved.}
I do recomend the netbook for those whom use a phone for a phone, and a computer for a computer. Its a great Deal!
Thanks again for my 5th Toshiba Happy Dance Experience"

Well it wasn't this laptop is incredibly slow, it doesn't work well unless its plugged in and charging all the time. Anytime I want to watch a video it won't work and freezes up.I wouldn't recommend this laptop to anyone. The only good thing about it is well there's nothing good about this laptop. As a student I am assigned a multitude of projects and everytime I use this laptop for a project it either freezes up and my whole works is lost. I advise you not to buy this at all."

"I've had many computers since I first bought a ps1 way back when. This little netbook NB305 fullfills all of my computing needs and then some and virtually outperforms all of the other desktop models i've ever owned and I can take it with me. The Thrive is nice, but Pads are just netbooks without dedicated keyboards and I prefer the layout of the netbook305 against the Thrive"
Just say no to chiclet keyboards! July 26, 2011

"This netbook would be awesome if it had a decent keyboard and a less frustrating touchpad.
I'm sorry, but the thing that kills this netbook from being useful is the damned chiclet keyboard. Chiclet keyboards didn't work for the TI 99/4, they didn't work for the PCjr, and decades later they still don't work for this netbook.
I'm a touch typer and I can literally hear my fingers hitting the keys, but the netbook doesn't register the keystroke. I end up having to bang on the keyboard in order to get my keystrokes registered and even then half the time I need to edit what I just typed because there are keystrokes missing. EPIC FAIL!
Additionally, the chiclet keys press against the LCD screen when the netbook is closed. Eventually over time you end up with little square scuff marks on the screen for all the keys at the edge of the keyboard (space bar, shift keys, etc.). Apparently the little rubber spacers designed to keep the screen from impacting against the keyboard are too small or shrink over time. I just don't understand why they didn't put a real keyboard on there instead of this chiclet thing; there's certainly enough room for one.
Then there's that damned touchpad. I've tried using it for over a year and its still the most frustrating way to position a cursor or scroll a window. I had to go into the control panel and turn off all the zoom features because it kept preferring to zoom my window instead of scroll it or move the cursor. Very frustrating! Once I turned off most of the zoom and scroll features (which were buried in the control panel; I doubt the average user is going to find these settings), it became somewhat reasonable, but its still frustrating.
Even on this little netbook the battery life seems poor. I mostly keep it plugged in all the time, but it seems to last only about an hour when running completely off the battery. I don't dim the screen down to a minimum when on battery because I prefer a bright screen, particularly in an airport type environment. I shouldn't have to make my netbook unusable ergonomically in order to have decent battery life.
Now, with all that having been said, this is still a decent little machine despite my frustrations. I can play back video through the VGA into my HD TV and get very good quality video playback at the resolution of the TV and not the little netbook screen. Its good for taking to conferences for email and web browsing instead of lugging my heavy Toshiba Satellite like I did before."

"This is our family's second Toshiba netbook. We are all heavy pc, laptop, and mac users. But we have the need to be very mobile so the choice this time was between another Toshiba netbook or an iPad. Between its size, weight, and that it has a keyboard, the nb305 was a great choice. And, this one is a dual core machine. The battery life is great, though I do turn off the WI-FI to maket it last even longer. I run MS Office 2007 with no trouble at all. My daughter uses her's at college. Her school has all the lecutre material on its network. She follows lecture material and is able to backup several slides or go forward several slides without haveing to bother the instructor. Her laptop is too heavy and valuable to lug in her backpack and the laptop cannot maket it past noon without needing a charge. Her NB305 makes it through the day without needing a charge. It's her experiences that led us to buying another Toshiba NB305. There are PCs at the same price point but they are too big. The iPad, just doesn't cut it for our needs."

"I wanted a lightweight laptop to take overseas, to use while traveling in the US, and to take to workshops for taking notes. I loved the ease of going through security with a light-weight computer. It was the bomb for taking notes--and many of my teaching colleagues were clearly jealous! The keyboard was easy to adjust to for extended typing. My only complaint is when the user wants to interact with a window, the computer screen HIDES the commands at the bottom of the window: apply, cancel, OK, etc. so I have to use the tab and enter keys and hope I choose the right one! Please work with Microsoft to put the choices along the side instead of the bottom so that the user can be sure he or she is making the changes desired."

"Windows 7 Starter that comes pre-installed is useless. To get any functionality from this equipment you are forced to pay, at minimum, 79 dollars more to upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium. More if you want to use Office for more than 30 days. External speakers are required to obtain an acceptable volume level, even after updating drivers. Toshiba Service Station software interferes with the mini entering and exiting sleep mode. Action Center frequently and inaccurately reports errors with Symantec AV.
The mini may be good for a school kid or facebooking but I wouldn't recommend it for doing any real work.
Since you will end up spending for an upgrade anyway, save your money and get an inexpensive laptop (doesn't matter if it's Toshiba or not). You will get much more functionality than with this mini piece of garbage."

It's the small size (light weight) and reasonable functionality that sold me. Wish it came in kinky colors like it's lesser cousin. Lime green for starters. Keep up the good work Toshiba. Ordering was so easy and reps very helpful. Haven't needed service yet--we'll see on that one."

"Gift for my wife with small needs. Fits perfectly. Here needs are email, solitare, MS Word & Excel. Light weight, short startup, WiFi and tethered "Verizon Wireless MiFi" accessibility, small size with full keyboard. Ordered the 2GB RAM upgrade at same time; well worth the investment! It should have come with built in CD/DVD player, but purchased external with the Netbook direct. Was ready to roll right out of the box. Had to call Toshiba Direct to ensure everything arrived on time ... a pain, but even when Norton 360 changed from Version 4 to 5, it arrived at the same price; just three days late. We own three older Toshiba notebooks now and will be ordering a customized model soon for bigger, more intense needs. Great Job Toshiba!"

"If this came with 2 Gig of RAM and a decent version of Windows, I'd give it 5 stars. Windows Starter is a crippled version of Windows, and 1 Gig RAM can't run Pro with even low demand, non-graphics intensive software. I like the size, weight and keyboard, but RAM upgrades are dicey, don't always work. Don't take it out of the store without 2 Gig RAM installed and working properly; don't buy RAM unless the source installs and checks it out! Otherwise the computer's slow and freezes frequently.
