"Only buy a laptop that you can take into a local service center. This model Of the R700 can be taken into any Local Service Center for Warranty repair. Turn around time 24 to 48 Hours. That is very important for Business."

"I liked most of the features before purchase - almost all parameters were about 80% or more of what I wanted - and anything better in more than one area was much more expensive. So I finally broke down and bought one. I've now used it extensively (all day most days) for over a month, and I've come to the conclusion that this is one really nice laptop. The weight is wonderful for the screen size and performance, and it is very stable including reliably going in and out of hibernation without a hangup as well as feeling physically solid. The battery life, while not spectacular, is fine to make it through a full work day without charging if I use the eco-utility. For the price this unit is hard to beat."

"I and my group have loved the Protege tablet (this one was the 8th one we purchased). But they dont seem to be doing anything with them anymore. First, while they updated the CD-drive to SATA, they no longer offer the option of replacing the bay with a second hard drive (one of the reasons we kept with the protege's). All they have to do is sell the HD holder just like the older model but make it SATA... very simple. i could probably force one in if i wanted to. next, the flash card application works poorly and has on the last several. i figured the older protege's flash card app didnt work because of general Window's creep. this new one came not working. the brightness of the display cannot change using the keyboard function keys. what a pain. to come like this new out of the box? and it has the latest bios and everything IRIS and the forums says... I love the tablet form factor and will not want to give up the pen input. too bad Toshiba seems to have written it off. i have other complaints too but that is enough."

"I bought the Portege R700 with an i3 for my wife to take to school. She tells me daily how much she loves it. We debated whether we should spend the extra dollars for a fully functional laptop or go cheap with a netbook. I'm SO glad I didn't get one of those pieces of junk. For the slight increase in size and weight over a netbook, you get an extremely powerful laptop. In fact, it's almost silly to compare this to a netbook. It's really a business class computer for anyone who travels a good deal and needs to demo software. The keyboard is laid out perfectly. The screen is crystal clear and large enough. There is virtually no noise. If it did have a noisy fan (as some other reviewers mentioned), Toshiba must have replaced it, because I never hear it. But, regarding noise, my only complaint is how loud the touchpad buttons are. If my wife is using it in the family room while I'm watching television, all I hear is click, click, click. I've enabled tapping and she's getting used to using that instead. Would be nice if that were addressed."

"This is a great laptop! It has everything I need in a computer. My only regret is not a getting a better longer lasting battery. Overall, I am very satisfied with my purcahse."

"i really dont know anything about computers at all. i will just say that this computer is amazingly light for something so full of cool features. it also seems pretty tough and is very good looking. one complaint i have though is that it does heat up rather quickly even when kept on flat surfaces with plenty of space for the hot air to escape. am getting a bit worried about that."
