"This replaced my Sony ultra compact which had a 11" display. This is my first Toshiba and I am very impressed. This has the best keyboard ever. The display is bright and crisp. The CPU is quite fast compared to my previous laptop. The DRAM is expandable for future upgrades. Quality fit and finish are excellent. My complaints: Battery life is poor (a trade for CPU power) The excellent keyboard has no lighting. A bit pricey in a crowded market. Overall a fantastic laptop for business travelers. Hope this helps!"

"Love my Portege so far (3 weeks). I especially like the fingerprint recognition! Exceptions: - face recognition still doesn't work - the space bar is positioned funny;many times Irunwords together because pressingthespace bar with my thumb(s) (the normalway) doesn't work. I''m hoping I canget used to it overtime."

"This would be my 6th Toshiba, and 4th in the Portege line. Although they've strayed a bit from the incredibly lightweight packaging of the R500, which I also have, the R700 is an excellent ergonomics/performance combination, and is still very lightweight compared to others on the market. Yes, as others have said, the fan does run all the time, but I found that by keeping the laptop cool (ie off of a heat-retaining surface), the fan will run on low most of the time. The i5 processor is powerful, and generates heat that must be dissipated. No complaints about this powerhouse - even the fingerprint reader works!"

"I primarily use a computer for email, word processing and spreadsheets. This unit is excellent. It is small, lightweight and fast. The CD reader seems to vibrate, but I have used it only once. So far, no complaints."

"Good: - no glossy screen (main reason I chose this product) - light weight (I like it) bad: - battery (with normal performance under 4 hours) - CD slot is "loose" - when picking up the laptop, you press the cover of the CD slot, so it is forced to give way/makes an impulse noise"

"I boght this laptop for my bookeeper so that she could take it with her in her purse when she goes out of town. She has a pretty big purse. It has windows 7 pro on it and this is the 1st windows 7 in our office. We are still trying to get use to the windows 7, but so far I have been able to resolve most compatibility issues with our older software. Having a bit of a problem getting "outlook" to run properly for email, but this is a windows thing and not anything to do with the laptop. So far we are very pleased with it. It sure came with a lot of good extra features not found on normal laptops."

"The machine had a very noisy cooling fan which was on almost all the time. The processor was running at 32-35% (and the fan going on full blast like a hair drier) even when no programs were actively running. Also video memory (and Toshiba programs running in the background) eats up a lot of RAM and you are left with only 1.8 GB of RAM out of total 4GB."
