"With the portege I've found everything I've been looking for in a laptop - good performance, long battery life, good looks, once I beefed it up with 8GB RAM it became even faster... and I haven't even installed an SSD yet. Really happy with this machine, I've had it for about 4-5 months now, work on it many hours every day, and it's served me very well. Highly recommended."

"Overall, I've been very impressed with the R835-P70. Long battery life, lightweight, DVD drive, good selection of ports (in number and types). Drawbacks: the screen has to be set at just the right angle to get the best viewing; the utility of Fn keys (F1, F2, etc.) is not optimal (and can't be re-programmed?). Overall: An excellent value."

"Got this laptop to replace my old Toshiba 17" which had served me well but I wanted to do away with some weight. So I shopped around and bought this and it is perfect. Huge HD storage and no problems with the 13.3 screen size. A few problems getting use to the keys but trust me no other laptop out-there has a better layout in this size for someone with large hands. The only thing I would have had different is how the keys are attached to the board. They make a clicking sound and sit off the surface a little so you could get dust under the keys. I keep my laptop clean anyway so that should not be a problem. I am not a gamer so I don't know how this laptop would serve in that area but, for business this computer is sweet. One other thing is to keep in mind a large screen to look at is still the best option at home. The college kids have the eyes to look at the small screen into a long night of paperwork. However, old guys like me need a big screen if the job gets to be over an hour. Still I have already wrote some pretty large documents and it hasn't been to hard on the eyes, especially if I enlarge the paper to 135%. I have used Toshiba for a long time and always found them to back up their products 100%. If you want a super computer and a way to reduce weight this is one to really consider."

"My HDD has just failed for the second time. I must have had 10 computers in my lifetime and never had the problems this one has given me. It seemed like the perfect fit for my needs - lightweight, fast and reasonably priced. However, it failed after 2 weeks, losing considerable work/set up time. Toshiba replaced the hard drive, which then worked for another 3 months, but now Windows is telling me not to use the computer without replacing the hard drive. I am very frustrated and just cannot recommend this computer to anyone but a Toshiba techie."

"We now have 2 portege laptops (same model). I used my wife's before I bought this one. It's light, stays cool and is fast. Very portable to take to hearings. The sound system could be a litle better and sounds a litle tiny. A key board that lighted up at night would be a nice feature. Overall I like it better than the hp that I had been using."

"For all the price that you pay, you pretty much are saving if you compare with similar products (in my opinion) Fast processor, good performance, great features (emphasis on the ECO MODE and the utilities pre-installed, and you can change if you want, so no issue at all for those people to tend to customize everything). The only thing that i would ask to change could it be to upgrade to another Graphic Card (Nvidia), and convert a fabulous Laptop in a Monster for gaming!!!!.. (if that's means to pay a little more, it is ok with me, just give the option to updrage dear TOSHIBA Team) Great ITEM!!!"

"What I would add to this lap? improve the quality of the current speakers which are lousy (why not use the Harman Kardon as you do with some of your other laptops?) and, if possibe have a backlist keyboad, which would be quite an advantage (especially when working at night). Also I think there's s a bug in the opening screen (impossible to change the zoning from Irvine, Ca to another location in the Toshiba welcoming screen (://start.toshiba.com/). It always goes back to the location Irvine - inspite of the numerous trials by various people (inc. 2 tec guys!). Apart from that, this is a great laptop."

"I had a 7 year old Toshiba prior to this purchase--and when this one arrived, I thought someone had forgotten to put it in the shipping box, it was so light. The battery life is much better than my last model, and it was a breeze to set up. I wish Office were installed as part of the purchase, but at least they let you know it's not prior to purchase. So far, so good!"

"i like lightweight and small screen laptops, Toshiba portege R835-P70 best fits in to my requirements but it lacks some features like Bluetooth,internal mic,keyboard backlit and webcam resolution.Other than these features this laptop is very good.No fan sound, no heating problem."

"This is replacing a laptop weighing over 6 lb. The Toshiba R835-P70 is so lightweight which was the main selling point for me. Had heard about the fan getting warm while on your lap. I simply use a usb connected cooling unit and its perfect. Its the perfect traveling companion. Maybe one more usb port and this thing would be perfection! So far, I love it."

"For the most part I am very happy with this computer. It is fast and the battery lasts 6-8 hours. The main con I would mention is that the display is not great. You can sort of see a tiny grid across the whole display. However, for the money I really can't complain. This other thing is that my previous laptop had a fingerprint reader which was a feature that I loved. This computer has "facial recognition" which is not so useful. It takes too long and doesn't always work. Overall though, I am very satisfied. This computer is perfect for school as it is very light-weight and the battery lasts forever."
