"So far I am delighted with this laptop. Extremely light weight, but powerful. It does all my Vaio laptop did but with half the weight and price but more than twice the battery life.
Keyboard and trackpad are very responsive and I appreciate the optional back-lighting feature in the evenings on my back porch !"

"I bought this laptop after comparing it to Asus ultrabook. First off, I'm tight on budget, but Asus appearance was taking more of my attention. But after several consideration (mostly finance), I decided to try Toshiba. I've never had Toshiba laptop before.
Pro: Very light and cheaper than other ultrabook I saw! The appearance was pretty good after using it for a while. Keyboard (if you are a mac user, you might not get used to it cz it is a bit heavy). But coming from a PC person, I'm totally fine with it. The touch pad is responding well. Sometimes though it could zoom in and zoom out itself if you are not careful in tapping on the touch pad. If you have a huge hand like mine, make sure you are aware of the position of your LH, otherwise it will do something that you are not intending to do. The start up was quick and have no noise. Connect with the internet very quick. Has icon to show you the battery life in percentage and hours.
Cons: My only complain is that the battery life is not 8 hours! That's a lie! Its only about 4 hours max. If you do things a bit, then close it down, of course its going to be 8 hours or more. But if you use the laptop the whole day, its not up to 8 hours. Depend on the stuff that you do in the computer."

"I use a computer for research and writing. I am not a whiz with computers, however downloading files from my old computer to this new computer was simple, quick and straightforward. I like the size of the screen, the layout and touch of the keyboard.
It is a very good looking computer, has a certain elegance about it and it weighs next to nothing. The battery life is fairly long which is helpful. I also like the position of the AC plug which is on the rear. When they come out of the side I've found they can get in the way and there's a greater risk of wires in the cord breaking if the cord is always at an acute angle which I've found to usually be the case with side plug-in..
I'm very happy with this little machine."

Perhaps future designs would incorporate a more user friendly environment which would allow users to increase the RAM capabilities. Otherwise, computer is very good, excellent screen, battery, etc.. "I love the size and portability of this machine. The solid state drive however does not boot up the machine as fast as promised. The main issue with this computer is the extremely small hard drive. i have had the machine 2 weeks and i feel like I'm already running out of space. I would be interested in expanding the storage on this computer. Other than that, this is very nice."

"I love my Toshiba - it runs fast and furious. I love the lightness of it and that it doesn't heat up during use. The screen is great. At first I thought that I would have to careful of the lid/screen but it is tougher than it looks. I picked up the Toshiba sleeve and it does the trick with protecting the laptop. Great product for the price! Thank you Toshiba!!"

"The Portege Z835 is a great value in the Ultrabook category. Very light and very thin, yet still has a full compliment of ports. The ethernet port eliminates the need to carry as USB-ethernet dongle. Video out is great for anyone who needs to make presentations via a projector. HDMI for external monitors and some projectors. Two USB2 and one USB3 ports for accessories. Lighted keyboard! Something no notebook should be without.
Battery life never quite reaches what's promised, the fan is noisey and would like to see the option for more memory. None of these are deal breakers, especially at this price point.
If you want an affordable Ultrabook, the Portege Z835 is a great choice."

"Finally, a real computer you can travel with, without having to be a weightlifter! I gave up my Ipad up for a real computer with I/O and real computing power. The battery lasts over 7 hours (great for those long overseas flights).
The only drawback at the moment is the small solid state hard drive, but that will go away with time as SSDs get bigger and more affordable."

"This is a VERY light weight laptop and the start-up/shut-down are noticeably good due to the SSD. Not having a CD/DVD-ROM/Write is a major weakness; I had to buy an external writer and that isn't very desireable.
I am an iMAC user on the personnel side so the SSD yields a comparable performance; the lightweight of the Ultrabook isn't that significant once you consider the weight and bulk of most carry bags (a sleeve would be the exception, but they don't do the job for most of us business types).
So far the computer itself seems very durable."

"If you want to be portable there's just no sense in getting larger and heavier laptops when the Z835 can give you everything you need. The screen resolution is excellent. Mouse controls are very good. The keypad takes a little getting used to, but after a very short time it, too, feels right. The lack of an optical drive is easily remedied by a USP portable that is quick to install and very responsive. The ultrabook is light, thin and quick.
Complaints? Only one. The front edge is a little sharp. But that's understandable when you fit all of this into something that is only 2/3 of an inch thick.
I've always been a Toshiba fan. This ultrabook keeps me in that group. WTG."

"I was reluctant to purchase this laptop because I was a dedicated HP user and balked about giving up my optical drive.. I relented when I found all the features I was looking for in this product. It weighs less than 2.5 lbs., has a solid state drive (hence the insane speed), an LED screen (great resolution), a backlit keyboard (ala Mac), a 3.0 USB port (superfast download) and an i3 processor. Who could ask for anything more? I purchased a LiteOn portable optical drive (super small and light as well) and now have everything I could ever want in a laptop. I would recommend this to anyone who is tired of bruised shoulders and an aching back from toting around those 8 lb laptops."

The eco mode is nice and when I need the backlit keyboard I just turn it on. Very nice feature. I love the battery life. I can work for an hour or two and close the lid and leave it. I find that i can go for several days without a charge. And when it does need charge, it doesn't take all day. Just an hour or two and it is fully charged. Sweet."

"I have read nit-picky reviews one right after the other, but gave it a shot anyway. In all honesty there are only two technical concerns I have with the system, and one minor note.
1. Angle of view is pretty poor on the screen, so expect to be no more than 15 degrees off angle if you want to view it. Not a big issue, as most of the time any laptop is right in front of you.
2. Battery life. I am guessing there are people who are getting longer operational time, but not if you are using WiFi and backlit keys. My time seems to be between 3-4 hours in that mode. Since my HP was under 2 hours, this in itself is a drastic improvement. I just turned on ECO mode today and will see what that brings.
Minor note - The CPU or bottom fan is noticeable, but not over powering. From an engineering perspective, I am shocked at the thin nature of the unit and its ability to dissipate heat. I've had it on my lap for hours (max of 4 to date), and I feel almost no lap heat. So for me the fan can make a little noise as long as my lap does not get hot.
Positives – My HP was an 11.6” with a dual core Intel CPU, and was drastically slower. You don’t know until you get a faster machine just how much time you spent waiting. This system boots in 19 seconds, and when it’s asleep it wakes up in less than 2 seconds.
I wanted an i5 but all they had at BestBuy was the i3, so I was concerned it would not perform as fast as I would like. Now I am very glad they did not have the i5 because I would have wasted the $200+.
The SSD is fast, but I’m rapidly running out of space. At 128G I now have 55G useable. This is with Windows 7 Home 64bit, Office 2010, Project, Visio, Adobe Acrobat Reader X, Active X, Java, and a web dev app. So I expect to be looking at a 250G SSD next week. I was also concerned about the 4G of RAM, but it seems to do everything I need, and no speed issues to speak of.
The full size ports kill Samsung, and ASUS. And the full sized SD card reader is excellent for a pocket backup, or for bringing down images. The keyboard is almost perfect to my hand size, and has a good tactile response. Since the keys do not touch like on the Apple Air, you get clear definition and separation between keys, so it helps you limit overtype.
I bought this thinking I would give it a try, and if my rain check came in within 45 days I would take it back and get the ASUS. Since the ASUS is getting hammered on the keyboard and touch pad issues, I am going to stay with the Toshiba.
I run a data center for a medical company in Utah. I am an Electrical Engineer by degree, but a systems engineer by occupation. I see a lot of good and bad product, and rate this notebook/laptop/ultrabook a solid 8.5 in the general xbook category."
