"Somehow mine has some kind of glitch that it just shuts completely off and then restarts its self. Sometimes losing what I was doing, It very annoying. I still would purchase this laptotp again or recommend it to someone, they may not have this issue. I search google and it seams like that im the only one having this issue. The best feature to me is the LED backlight keyboard, It very fast, huge screen and beautiful."

"I bought this laptop as a replacement for my desktop system and my current old laptop. It does both without issue. It's a big laptop and on the heavy side. I knew that going in and most of the time it sits on my office desk, not a factor. It's fast, very cool styling, great sound and runs Linux just fine."

"My Qosmio was a gift from my squad buddies who took pity on me after years of trying to fly IL-2 on a series of "experienced" Dell machines. This new Qosmio loads the sim in seconds rather than minutes and flys smooth as silk without the screen freezes and stutters I was accustomed to. The game is gorgeous and the sound is superb. I'm still exploring the possibilities but Windows 7 is a dream upgrade from XP.
The only drawback is the placement of the sound and video controls on the left side of the keyboard. I often bump this or that button while typing and various windows pop up. I'll get used to that though and it shouldn't be a serious problem."

"This is a great desktop replacement, yet I can still set it on my lap in my easy chair. My favorite feature is the ability to pin my much used programs to the bottom of the screen instead of pinning to the start menu (windows XP). The monitor is very wide and the resolution is great. My photos look crisp and clear. Can't think of anything negative to say!"

"No, it's not quite that fast, but almost. I bought it mainly as a transportable recording studio. I didn't want to pay the price for an apple, and my previous laptop is a Toshiba Satellite 2430 model. I was very pleased with it's performance, and although I haven't put this Qosmio x500 thru anything extremely grueling yet, I have confidence in it's ability to perform."

"Overall very happy with Toshiba. Ordered it and it arrived in 2 days with regular shipping! Nice computer - works well. I do not do much high-end stuff but has worked flawlessly. Battery lasts about 2 hours with basic use. Beautiful screen and sounds. It is big and heavy though I did not get an 18 inch for its portability!"

"This laptop has every feature imaginable. An excellent desktop replacement. Performed as advertised right out of the box. The battery life is good especially given the size of the laptop and the hardware under the hood. Has run every program I've tried flawlessly at max settings including video editing, 3D modeling, and hardware intensive games. Could upgrade the RAM, but have had no need! Unbelievably powerful given the price. I wish I could rationalize buying two!"

"While a little heavy, I bought this to be a serious gaming machine and didn't plan to port it around the country much. It has quite enough power to run Crysis and WOW, which are the reasons for the purchase anyway.
It is kind of bulky and really needs more cooling or the top of the keypad (near the screen) gets extremely hot even though the management console indicates the cpu temp is only about 65%. I found that even with a cooler fan/stand from NZXT, I can't really cool it any lower than that as there isn't much ventilation on the bottom that would allow for better airflow.
On the positive side, I love the big bright screen, the speedy responsive logins and the setup with USB ports on both sides of the machine. I also feel like it is sturdy and would put up with being moved around a bit."

"I've had this laptop for about a month now. Everything, except for the speakers, is top notch. I was kind of disappointed in the Harmon speakers. My last two toshiba laptops had the same name brand speakers but were much louder. Where I live I mostly have to wear headphones anyway so it's not a big deal.
This system is a great desktop replacement. Blue Ray Player, 18 inch screen, great processor and graphics card. If you looking for something to travel with I wouldn't recommend this. I carried this thing from Atlanta to Baghdad, 23 hours, and I have to say it added quite a bit of weight to my back pack."

They keyboard illumination is brilliant. The only negative thing i can say about this laptop is that it is pretty heavy."

"DO NOT USE MY EMAIL ADDRESS IF THIS REVIEW IS TO PUBLISHED!!!
Purchased primarily to process photographic RAW files. Response to handling these files is fast and effortless and the screen size for viewing photos in detail is perfect. Although it is called a laptop it is really a pc replacement. The size and weight is not conducive to carrying it around with camera equipment. It does fit on the lap but its heat makes that quickly uncomfortable. Get something to protect your lap from the heat or keep it on a computer table and you will be very happy. I also highly recommend the Toshiba Satellite laptops. Just heaven. One thing Toshiba has done is design the desktop so that all programs are immediately accessible. I particularly like the hidden program folder which leaves an uncluttered toolbar. The folder is not visible, but is accessed by clicking on an "up" arrow. Really nice. One other warning is that a couple of functions built into the touch require a lighter touch than you might have used on other laptops."

"the most powerfell comp i ever had by far. and had meny top end laptops. i could only abel to get it to 32% cpu with every thing i got and then some. 2 games like wow just 1 is hard on a comp, meny web pages sum of them games defrag WMP the power meeter that it has and meny more all at the same time. cant throw nothing at it that it cant handel but 3 some what miner cons. blueray sounds realy low evern with my amp. 2 the lighting not even its dark on top and raly light on bottem when looking at screen strait on its like the gama it up to high on the battem and not so on top so your black is more like a gray and can't be fixed its a nativ pooblem the tek told me that. not settings. 3 when doing 2 things at the same time with sound it seams to cut low when theres a beat like playing wmp and playing wow, the wmp cuts realy low when theres some kind of beat. so the WMP sound gos up down-up down all the time. thay cant fix that. i have 14 days to return it but the power of this comp out way the cons. btw do not run it on your car bat it will kill it fast lol. not comming to jump start ya lol. ps sorry fore spelling hope some one can fix that lol"

"Toshiba is hands-down the best quality you will get for your money. I was skeptical about Toshiba when I got my first laptop a couple years back, but now that I've compared build quality to that of HP or Dell, you get a solid build with Toshiba every time.
This laptop is in a class of its own. Not only is this a gaming laptop, it's one the of the few (maybe the only one) that's 18" today. The Geforce GTS 360M on this is amazing - crisp pictures, great fps, amazing textures. It had 4GB RAM, but upping it to 6GB manually gave me insurance for any high-memory hogs at any time. The HDD on this is great, just wish Microsoft would rate the performance on it a bit better; you can't get faster than 7200rpm on a laptop without tooling it yourself. I don't need to - with an external HDD, 500GB is just enough on this laptop.
Overall, Toshiba has wowed me again. I'm glad and very satisfied I made this purchase."

"Was looking for a desktop replacement with good graphics and all the bells and whistles. I am happy with the computer. The only thing I would improve is the bluetooth performance -- my headphones keep loosing contact (My previous laptop was much less likely to loose bluetooth connection. I would also like to install one of the hard drives from my old laptop in this one (I hope the brackets will transfer or are already in my new computer. All in all this is a great computer. You should repeat survey in about two years and see how it holds up."

"The Qosmio X505-Q870 is the best laptop I have ever had the pleasure of using. It is not perfect, but its pecadillos are tiny in comparison to its strengths. This is about as close to state of the art as you can get all things considered. It's loaded with most all the features anyone could want. Super fast chip, enough RAM for most every ap, plenty of storage, huge bright screen, solid construction, top notch support. Toshiba is at the top of my list, FAR superior to HP, Dell, Gateway, etc. This model is a bit beefy, but if you don't mind hauling a couple extra pounds around in your laptop backpack you wouldn't want anything else. The power adapter is huge, but with the great battery life you shouldn't have to haul it around too much. The backlit keyboard is a godsend. The case is solid and gorgeous. It is a fingerprint magnet, but it's easy to clean as you must do anyway. It's got all the ports you need, adequate installed software, lots of built in help and monitoring devices, gaming level video. What more could you ask? I am thinking of getting 2 more for my wife and kid. As a desktop replacement that you can tote around on occasion there's none better. With all the power and quality this baby has it should last you 4-5 years anyway. Well worth the price in my book."

"You can read about the disaster I had with my first Q870...all due to shipping. Well the second one is fantastic B-Ray is excellent, crisp and clean. I'm not a gamer so I can't say anything about that.. It didn't come wth a lot of bloatware..Thank you Toshiba...but then again it didn't come with much startup support, especiallly for Windows 7. Took some time to set up but it is a wonderful laptop, although I will say it is a BIG laptop! This one you don't carry on a plane or sling over your shoulder, but it is definitely the laptop you want to buy! Upgrading all programs and drivers to Windows 7 is a real pain but that is not Toshiba's problem. Example: McAfee was a 14 hour dwnld on a highspeed DSL line.....not into Norton's which does come loaded. Audio is too subdued but I hope to find a fix to this problem soon, had the same problem with my older 'Satellite'"

"The Qosmio X505 computer was the best investment I have made since my last Toshiba Laptop. The computer far exceeded my expectations. The scores are mostly excellent. I have given 4 stars due to the fact that the battery life is not as long as most other devices, probably due to the fact that the computer is not "most other devices". The battery life is very good in comparison considering the required power that the machine needs as a Multi-Media device. The Qosmio X505 is a top of the line High Tech machine at an excellent price. The Blu-ray and Hi-def screen are a bonus. I am a loyal Toshiba customer and will remain so. Excellent products at Excellent prices."

"This is my second Qosmio and once again it is one of the best laptops I've ever owned. The features coupled with the price make this an incredible machine. It has power to spare with it's i7 processor and plenty of RAM to make productivity software sing and games silky smooth to play. I gave only four stars because there are other models with 8Gb of RAM and I think that would be even better.
I haven't had a chance to try the Blu-Ray drive but I have watched several movies and the screen quality is simply amazing. The only thing I have even slightly negative to say is that the sound quality has gotten worse over my last Qosmio. My old one had four speakers and a sub-woofer and this one only have two speakers and they clip pretty easily. Luckily, I use headphones more often than not so it's not really much of an issue for me.
The battery life really isn't all that bad considering the size of the screen and the power of the machine but it pales in comparison to many modern laptops. However, this laptop is truly a desktop replacement and I don't rely on the battery except in dire emergencies."

"I purchased this unit on-line since the local computer stores did not have this model. I like the large screen size hoping that the keyboard would be full size. However, the keyboard size does not match the size you would expect for a laptop this size. The human factor layout is poor with power and sound controls on the left side taking up valuable space that could have been relocated up above the keyboard. As you can tell, I hate the keyboard design that has flat surfaces and poor tactile feel."

"Pretty good computer except - the touch sensitive buttons on the left are constantly being pressed when typing by my palm. These should be along the top of the keyboard, like many others. They also beep very loud, no matter what. This should be optional. Making these buttons not function, similar to the touch pad would be a really good idea.
The sound is too low for such a full featured laptop. It should have a much better amplifier to match its other qualities.
There should be two headphone jacks
The delete key is too small and should occupy the space of the num lock indicator (which should be like the Cap lock indicator).
Otherwise, this computer seems to be a powerful computer but pretty expensive to have all the nuisance issues ."

"After years of using rather expensive "desktop replacement" 18" HP laptops, which would fail after slightly more than 12 months, I switched to 18" Toshiba. I ruled out Asus, Sony, Dell, and Samsung.
First impression:
Excellent built (looks solid to me), quality mechanical components (e.g. optical drives), useful features (e.g illuminated keyboard), elegant ! Silent (unlike the HP !)
Besides the usual MS Office I currently run Adobe Video and Photo Editing applications, various Audio and Video Converters, some of the popular Media Players and even CPU intensive Molecular Modeling Programs. Various security, disk and registry maintenance utilities. Cisco-Linksys Wireless Modem. Fast ! Never crashed so far (no "blue screen"). I seldom do this, but twice I timed about 4 hours of usage on batteries alone in High Performance mode ('should be more in Balanced or Economy).
A pleasure to use !"

This Toshiba is the only one in the 17inch plus category with the touchpad properly centered on the "B" key. Most other computers have the touchpad shifted further to the right, causing the right hand to infringe on the touchpad and cause undesireable effects."

The Adapter is obviously large but its normal for laptops this big, also I can use this adapter against someone incase they break inside my house HAHA. ;)"

"This is the second Qosmio laptop that I received. The first one had the overheating problem the second day that I had it. I returned it and received another one. It took a week for the overheating problem to start on the new one. I really want the 18 inch screen and to put the i7 processor through its paces. It is really nice to open two pdf's and be able to read them in normal type. I Batman: Arkham on it and it ran great and looked great, until it overheated again. I am going to return it again and give the next one, one more chance before I have to down grade to a smaller screen. The price it a little high, but it really is the best laptop out there for the price. The body is a little flimsy for such a large laptop and I don't trust moving it much over time."

"I wanted to upgrades since I do a lot of publishing. It is a great computer. It replaces my desk top which is only two years old I added 2 more gigs of memory putting me at 6 total. This computer more than handles any game out there. More than that though it runs anything that Adobe has-Creative Suite is a breeze. Lightning fast. The Wireless N is phenomenal however, you do need yo make sure that your router can broadcast in N or it is pointless.
Very satisfied with the customer service. I needed to order a special bag for the 18.4' screen. It was delivered in 48 hours."

"I got this laptop 2 months ago. It has performed fantastic. I do a considerable amount of digital photo work and also data base work so it gets a good workout. I usually have at least 2+ applications running at the same time with no issues at all. I spend at least 8 hours a day on it, and since purchase over 2 months ago have had one issue that needed a reboot to solve. Fantastic system. Only complaint is speakers do not produce the volume you would expect from a top notch system. Nothing a set of external speakers would not solve. That works if you do not use the laptop physically in your lap. Overall I would definitely recommend this system to anyone looking for a new desktop replacement. Heavy and a bit large for business or personal travel. But with a external fan for cooling (it does get hot in your lap after a hour or two) it is perfect for a desktop replacement."

"Following an extensive search for my wifes first laptop computer we decided to spend the extra $400.00 on our new Toshiba Qosmio. For the extra jack we purchased a much more powerful computer with a larger screen that will be all she ever needs and is sure to accomodate all of mine (Selfish I know).
Thus far the unit has performed flawlessly with two exceptions, bluetooth connectivity loss after about one week rendering her new bluetooth mouse useless (not sure but a MS update may have altered the settings) and an occasional "system cannot identiy operating system" message on start up, there may be a patch, i haven't checked yet as this happened only this week.
Other than that total satisfaction up to this point. This laptop definitely is a great value."

"Lightning fast general computing. Decent battery life for general computing but won't last a 2 hour movie. Synaptics trackpad multi-touch gestures not smooth even after driver update. (but my default baseline comparison is a MacBook Pro). For the gamers: Battlefield BC2 did not work well with default drivers. Drivers from Toshiba site did not help either. Newest driver from Nvidia fixed the problem. Beautiful screen, but if you are used to 1080p TV, this 720p screen does not appear high def. Overall pleased. Primarily wife's computer and she loves it. Given it's size and weight, think of it as a desktop replacement instead of a portable."

I've had 5 of these large applications running at the same time and have yet to see any problems. I had to disable the lefthand keys (volume control, etc) and the windows key just because I'd hit them accidentally while gaming. Also, when this thing gets going, its sooo quiet, especially compared to my previous Qosmio (7 year old machine). Highly recommend for any gamer or user of demanding applications."

"The Qosmio X505-Q870 is a really nice laptop. Keyboard lites up making it nice for typing in low light. Wide screen is great. Put two spread sheets next to each other and work on both. The intel core 7 really speeds up graphics. Windows 7 is working "ok". Still not a big fan of Microsoft but most of my programs run on this system so I keep torturing myself. Toshiba is always a great working userfriendly laptop. Wireless and bluetooth connections easy to work with. What I didn't plan on was toting around such a large laptop. Would be great if I was only commuting from home to office but, not so great to use in the field. Hard to find case to carry it around in."

I wanted to make sure that my future purchase would not be obsolete in a couple of years. I use it for CAD work when not playing Fallout 3 and C&C and its perfomance still gives me goose bumps. I wish they would have used LightScribe for the disk labler as the DVD required are hard to find locally, and pricey when you do. The power connection could have been done better, its stressed due to its location and connector type and I see that being a sore spot in the design down the road. Besides that, it looks and runs great. People oggle it every time I take it out of the bag."

If you get any of the Qosmio laptops though I'd highly recommend the Backpack carrying case, as it's one of the few cases that even support laptops this size. "I've bought this Qosmio X505-Q870 as a replacement for two HP's I tried with similar specifications with the Toshiba. This machine so far is fantastic!
The previous machines (HP) are outclassed all round, the performance is easily on par and above with the added reliability of Toshiba. The cost is slightly more (than HP), however worth every penny for peace of mind.
The previous machines I purchased (HP) kept the cooling fan on full blast after it received a bios update. The Toshiba runs cool all the time unless you use the capabilities to their fullest extent, i.e gaming.
The battery (12 cell) for this size machine works very well, however given the size of the screen, I do not expect it to last for 5+ hours, The 3 hours approx. is good enough for me.
I would definitely recommend this machine to friends and family."

The colors on the blu-ray were horrible and could not be adjusted without reloading the entire system, and I don't even know what caused it. It could happen again at any time. "I reached a point where my old laptop was wearing out & my computer techie recommended Toshiba or Fujitsu as brands that are of sound quality today. I just blindly chose Toshiba because I liked the size (18.4 monitor) and the classy design. I find the keyboard very comfortable & love the way it lights up when touched. I've only had this laptop less then a month so my comments may not be as numerous yet. My only complaint so far is that I find the touchpad a little rough & a little too sensitive (even after changing settings) and the clicking noise from the left & right buttons on the touchpad drive me nuts. I had an HP laptop before that had the most wonderful touchpad...it was completely smooth (allowing your fingers to glide easily), the built in scroller was a lot more smooth, and the left & right buttons didn't make a sound when clicked.
The other thing I've noticed is that when you hit the volume icons on the keyboard, there are no icons that show up on the screen showing you where your volume is set (all my other computers have this). Maybe there is a setting somewhere that I'm not aware of.
Other than that so far, I'm loving this powerful machine!"

"If you consider all the options available in all the brands including the top five lap tops you will see that the Toshiba's top two Qosmio models blow the bytes off everything else starting with the i7, NVIDIA 360, the 10/100/1000 LAN card and /n wireless card and 500 GB HD. The HDef screens on these bad boys are incredible or just hook up your 50 inch HD LCD monitor to the nvidia HDMI 1080p out put and surf large and incharge. Your buffer times with a decent modem and connection speed will almost go away if you are getting some bandwidth. Yea it looks way cool too but the power is just phat bad."

"My job gives me the opportunity to get hands on with many laptops. Since I bought my X505, I have rated all the others against my Toshiba. As nice as they claim or seem to be, they just don't compete with the performance and style of my machine. The new i7 processor and the super sharp 18" screen are in a class by itself. Want to make everyone else envious? Then try one of these!"

"HANDS DOWN BEST mobile gaming, and on the go HD video editing and audio conversion, or any other high end task, system. Most should run well with these specs, however little to no unnecessary software, makes this portable power house run blazing fast and smooth right out of the box, many others load up the PC's with junk noone really needs that slows the system. It's design and look is astonishing, it will attract good comments everywhere. Compared to other systems with similar specs and performance, they were in different worlds, for the competitors were $1900-$2600 from other name brand companies.
I only wish this was 1333mhz RAM, don't be the least bit discouraged, 1066 is fast enough but with the processor and everything else why not, they would have really complimented each other well. The battery is at a surprising 3hrs and 34 minutes in eco mode, for what this animal needs for power it savors it well, but a 4-5 hrs battery would have been great for the cross country flight i took that's 4hrs and 18 minutes.
I will and have recommended this to many people, and plan on buying several other laptops from here.
Thanks Toshiba !!!!"

"From the start, it would reboot after being asleep. After searching the web, I found a recommendation to do a bios update, and that fixed that, but then a window started popping up that said the laptop was overheating and I should shut it down immediately and send it for repair. I only had the opportunity to use it for two days as a result. I simply returned the laptop because there were many features I didn't like.
On the Toshiba website, it says that this model starts at 9.7 pounds. Since I was buying this preconfigured model, I expected the weight to be close to that, but it weighs about 15 pounds! The power supply is at least double the size of supplies I've previously owned. I've purchased at least a half dozen Toshibas, and the quality of this model is not as nice. The keys have no beveled edges, and are slick, making it more difficult to feel where your fingers are located on the keys. The touch pad buttons are flimsy pieces of plastic that resound very loudly when you click them. The pad and buttons are located at the front edge, and the front edge is completely square. My Satellite laptop has a curved front edge, and the pad and its buttons are about an inch back from the edge. It is MUCH more comfortable on the hands, and you don't accidentally click a button while opening the laptop. On the Qosmio it happened a lot.
The Qosmio doesn't have the fingerprint reader like my Satellite, and I miss it a lot. Face recognition is not nearly as convenient, and doesn't work well.
The sound quality was great. I miss having a real volume wheel. Up/down buttons are more trouble- you can turn off their annoying beep in the bios settings. Windows 7 is faster than my old Vista OS, but I miss the classic XP style start button. It's harder to search among your installed programs."

"I was using a HP DV6 which i bought in last august, just could not live with it, so i got this beast. The laptop performed above my expectations almost as well as my desktop. I just love the backlit keyboard and the nice eco button which i so often use. I would have wanted a better software package as i got with the hp, but that is just too small a flaw."

"Just received my X505 last Friday and found it to be everything I had hoped it would. Very fast, plenty of RAM and display is impressive. Wifi set up quick and easy. First thing i did was load Total Wars Empire, ran without a hitch. Concerned about wifi reception at other end of house from U-Verse gateway but have good strong signal and fast web browsing with the X505. Prefer not having all of the add on software (bloatware) but that is the only thing to fuss about."

"I think this laptop is the best right now in the trade.
It is able to run in very high graphic settings and antialiaising 8x the Crysis, and it looks so good. Its speakers have a very sound quality that I was surprised. The web cam has a very high resolution, the display is too big that later all the other displays seem too small. The face recognition is not really a security system, but a funny application to surprise the people (when it works correctly, in other case, people will see you too optimistic).
The only characteristic that I don't like is its weight, in this aspect is literally a replacement for the desktop pc. But all the other features are really amazing, by which I sacrifice of carrying this heavy laptop."

"I've used this about a week - I'm still getting used to the nasty pad.. I think I'm going to buy some car pin-stripe tape to put around the pad. Why? The slightly rough texture is not enough to tell my finger-tips "you're already off the small pad". I'm also going to define the area for scroll too, since synaptic driver takes out a slice of the area too (making my pad area even smaller - I wish it were bigger, like a mac pad..).
The multi-media touch controls are nice but I wish there's a quick icon to turn the beeping off and switch this to an OSD. Beep, beep in the night, to wake-up folks in the dorm with clumsy fingers..
The hinge seems stiff - I hope this smooths out after a while. Big question, why do they even offer this in win7 home-premium with an I-7? With all this power for games, I should have gotten win7 pro so my older games run in VT with xp-mode. (oh well, I guess I'm stuck with installing xp on V-box.. for now.)
I think I'll get a BT mouse cuz I don't think I can live with this pad. Pretty good deal though, just doesn't feel as snappy as I first thought (ok yeah, they did pump me up). BTW, I can hardly hear my two 500 gig drives working."

"Being a gamer I was really surprized by the overall strength this machine has in all respects. HD movies are amazing, built in speakers are decent. Internet wireless contacts from 50 ft away from router very good. I play games on it from that range. The display is very sharp but viewing angle is critical.
It is my understanding from technical reviews this computer does very well compressing files at very fast speeds if your into grahic generation.
The video card while not the very top of the line or SLI, does a good job and has amazing clearity. It is very competive running COD (4,WW,etc), Battlefield 2, and ARMA II. Fallout 3 is better than my gaming desktop. Microsoft fligt sim X runs at 160 fps is you leave the fps setting at unlimited! I think that is a function of CPU and GPU working together with Windows 7. These fps are amazing coming from a single laptop GPU.
There are more expensive gaming laptops that will operate at faster frames per second, however, they cost twice as much as this one. All things withstanding this is one very serious laptop running near the state of the art at a reasonable price."

"A great laptop for gaming needs. I play world of warcraft. And if you know the game play you know about some lag in big cities. Well this laptop didn't have any lag. I even pushed the graphics to Ultra on the game and the laptop still had no lag. I would recommend this laptop if you looking for a serious gaming machine. And the Blu-ray Disc ROM is an awesome addition."
