"Mine has been in for service 2x since I received it. The cooling for this unit is not sufficient to keep it from damaging internal components. So far, I have had a CPU replaced and now a graphics adapter is failing, but the repair depot refuses to replace it. This unit is not possible to use in ones lap at all. My unit has been inoperable for more than 50% of the time I have been an owner."

"I have had my new toshiba laptop for a couple of months and i must say that this is an excellent machine. I have owned a previous toshiba laptop which was also excellent which brought me back to the brand. I was badly in need of a technology upgrade since i had no blue ray player and could not run most new software very well but this computer got me right up to date. I can run the newest videogames on the highest resolution with other applications running in the background and the machine dosn't miss a beat. I have friends who have spent upwards of 4000-5000 dollars buying and upgrading their computers and they still do not run as smoothly as mine. Toshiba has found the correct consetellation of hardware to make their laptops great at a reasonable price. Bravo!"

"I was tired of waiting on my old computer to load from the standby mode (10- 15 minutes), with this computer I can start and be online in less than 5 minutes. I use a high end work station for CAD applications at work and this computer seems to be just as fast. Graphics are great, blu-ray is great, just wish it had a dvi output for a monitor. Battery life is average, we do like the lithium ion battery. If you're looking for a powerful, low budget workstation, this will likely be the computer for you, oh yeah, it's good for gaming too."

"I needed a portable workstation that was fast, had lots of hard drive space, and was wi-fi capable. This computer is all of the above.
The only thing they could do to make it better would be to have two processors, more ram, and more hard drive space.
I highly recommend it. I've bought two."

"I work in Car Sales so I have plenty of people of all walks of life, step into my office. Everyone comments on my laptop! I'm not unable when it comes to computers but I'm not a computer geek either ( no offence ). I love my loptop! It does everything I could expect! It's fast, easy to use, relieable, and looks way cool. I looked at all kinds of computers, desktop and laptop. I looked at Apple, Dell, HP, and Toshiba. I already had a cheep Toshiba and that thing was a work horse for years, so I decided for the money it was the best buy! The only thing that gets on my nerves is it's hard to keep clean. It shows finger prints like crazy! I have to keep a rag nearby at all times. Still think it's the best one out there!!"

"Agree with Laptop Magazine and CNET product reviews; great value for the speed and features on this product. Big pluses are i7 Core Processor (it never gets hot!), 6 GB RAM, Dual HD (OS resides on 64 GB SSD for amazingly fast boot times). Was a bit disappointed in speakers, expected a punchier louder sound, but once headphones are plugged in, the sound is awesome! Check out the Toshiba Board, handy app included. Toshiba's Laptop Forums are a valuable resource for sharing ideas, tips and problem solving."

"Wasn't meant to be used as replacement for desktop, but seem to be using desktop much less now. Only drawbacks are the usual gripes: fingerprint magnet, bulky power supply, battery life(normal usage= >2hours), extreme amount of bloatware which is horribly annoying to have to remove from a new computer, annoying beeps when using media buttons, heavy and awkward to carry, etc... With the exception of bloatware and battery life, pros far outweigh cons. Breezes through all my applications(Photoshop/Lightroom 3) with ease, and looks good while doing it. Display is amazing, especially with Blu-Ray. Ports and connections are plentiful. Great having HDMI out; Using e-SATA connection makes backups and transfers very fast.(I personally could have used a built in CF card reader but...) For the price, I was hard pressed to find anything even close. Overall very pleased so far."

"Having owned the first generation Qosmio I had high expectations for their new top of the line and I wasn't disappointed. This time the dual drives make more sense; the solid state 64 GB drive boots the machine up faster than you imagine. The display is true HD. The only thing one could wish for is a BluRay burner like the Sony."

Keyboard is comfortable and easy to use - especially like the backlighting. Graphics performance is amazing for a laptop. Battery life is, as expected, really poor though."

"Don't buy this laptop unless you have a real need for what it offers. It is heavy and high priced. It is much more than you may need. Toshiba has other models better suited to your needs. However, if you really need a machine like this, this is it. I can now produce broadcast quality video in the field, both here and in Europe."

"Recently, I decided to get a new laptop to get ready for college. I knew I wanted to get one that had high performance and the ability to output High Definition videos adequately. (Since I'm thinking about getting into film studies.)
The new Toshiba Qosmio seemed to be an excellent choice. I already own a computer built by me and is stocked with some of the highest power parts I could find. This laptop is easily a worthy contender with it. Dorm life is a bit cramped for space and getting something more compact is definitely the way to go instead of lugging your huge computer tower along with you.
Positives:
Graphics are definitely top notch. Even though they don't exactly match my desktop setup, my computer games and bluray movies are just as sharp and clear.
The speakers emit fair quality sound. They're a bit quiet, but if volume is really an issue for you, there's always the option of using the headphone jack on the right side of the laptop.
There's plenty of ports to use on it. The system has a built in HDMI output to output to anything with an HDMI input. As well as HDMI, there's also the option to use the VGA output as well, just in case your working with older projectors. there's also 4 USB ports, microphone and headphone jacks, an eSATA port built into one of the USB ports, and a few more random ports I don't even recognize what they do.
Negatives:
The machine can get pretty hot after a while of strenuous work. Normal computer functions like Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, and other simple stuff never bring the temperature up to an intolerable level. However, when you've got a computer game up or a video saving, you're bound to get your legs cooked. The vents in the back do a fine job of keeping the computer from overheating, but it still might become a bit uncomfortable for a few people. I highly recommend buying something designed to keep your legs and laptop separate; Not necessarily a laptop cooler.
The laptop has a built in touch-sensitive control panel for a few basic functions on your computer. Unfortunately, the buttons are a bit too close to the keyboard. Sometimes, you may find yourself accidentally pressing one of the buttons that opens up something you didn't want to open up. I can't even count the number of times I've been busy typing or working on something and I accidentally open up Windows Media Player or activated the eco Utility.
The computer's hard drive system is split up into two factions; the 64 GB solid state drive and the 500 GB hard drive. It took me a little bit of time with the solid state drive before I realized that 64 GB of space doesn't go as far as you'd think. I decided to only put my performance sensitive programs onto that drive since it was such a scarce amount of space. The fact that the drive was pre-loaded with a bunch of trial software didn't make matters easier. That's one of the reasons why I built my own computer in the first place; I had more control over what went into it.
Overall, the problems don't seem to outweigh the perks of having this laptop. It's easy to use, powerful, and gives you more options over buying something like a netbook."

"Works fine, but I have some significant complaints:
1. The 64GB SSD is constantly running out of space, even if the resource transfer utility is used. This is a show stopper. OS CD's are not provided so I can't reinstall OS on 500GB HD.
2. May be due to Windows 7, but several apps freeze when told to save user files (like photos from camera) on 2nd Drive.
3. Supplied DVD burning software not user friendly. When saving data files to DVD, it does not show how much space is left and if you try to add more than a DVD can hold, it will not automatically split across several DVD's (as is needed when backing up files).
USB ports, power are on right side interfering with use of mouse. Firewire is different or new type of connection - haven't found adaptor that works yet.
I like; big colorful display, back lit keyboard, fast boot (thanks to SSD), built in speakers, multi-media buttons. Able to show wedding video & pics to room of people using laptop alone."

"The hardware is great, but there are a few quirks that Toshiba support was unhelpful about:
1) The SSD is 64Gb but with the restore partition and preinstalled OS + Utilities, only 17Gb remained, barely enough for MSOffice. My solution was to replace the 64Gb SSD with a 256Gb SSD.
2) VMware Workstation would not run on the machine. After 3 weeks of troubleshooting with the VMware support staff, it was discovered that ConfigFree WiMax, which came preinstalled on the machine, had a code bug introduced when it was converted from 32-bit to 64-bit so that it took over 4Gb of the 6Gb available RAM. Disabling this utility got the system running great.
3) There is no AC/DC or DC only Travel Adapter available from Toshiba"

"Got this thing and like it a lot, replacing an old Dell XPS. The X505 runs extremely quiet, even while playing video. I like most everything on the laptop except:
Glossy screen. Yeah it gives you darker blacks, but if you have light on the room, be prepared to stare at yourself. Adjusting the angle of the screen really is no substitute for a non-glare screen. If there's ever an option for it, get that instead.
Media controls. If it's dark, these are not illuminated until you use them, and there is no physical indentation or non-illuminated markings. So if it's dark, you aren't going to see which control you're touching until you've activated it. This is a real pain to adjust volume--though once set, you'll probably not have to change it that much. The control works great, just would be nice to see it in low-level light.
Finally, it would be nice if the 15 or so Toshiba apps could be consolidated to a single one. As it is there's like 20 things running--they can provide cool features, status, hardware checks, etc., but if you don't like em, they are only a few clicks away from being deleted."

USB is a needed thing in my house. I love the convenient HDMI port.... makes watching movies with S/O much better. I can easily play WoW on my computer, but it is being run off of the spinning drive because there isn't enough room on the solid state drive."

My biggest complaint is with all the "bloatware". Toshiba really pumps it full of warm and fuzzy warez that bug me too much. I think I'l just restore and drop the warez. I wish manufacturers would just include the install DVD for the extras and a brochure. If we want 'em we'll install 'em.
Otherwise the machine really performs well with my CAD work!"

"Overall, the performance is the best I've ever seen on a laptop (8+ of them). The display is the best, hand's down.
Two items kept this from having an overall rating of 5. The first concerns the power. The battery life, while good, needs to be better and the charger is massive; it needs to be smaller.
The second thing is that the flash drive of 50GB is too small for a C drive. The Windows 7 operating systems, plus office + Visio and Project, and the inevitable Windows Update took up 37 GB of it right off the bat. I had to move office to the large drive to get enough swap space."

"I consider Toshiba machines the rocket science of industry. Always the leading edge of innovation. I can get a "cheaper" laptop anywhere but find myself gladly paying a little more for the product Toshiba makes. I have owned several Toshiba machines and the way they operate day in and out, for years is unsurpassed in the industry. One of my previous models is a satellite and it's 10 years old, still runs like the day I bought it. Never been serviced!! For a few dollars more, Toshiba once again delivers the excellence I have grown accustomed to and will stick to for all my computing needs. Congratulations to Team Toshiba, you exceeded my expectations again."

"The main gripe and only gripe I have is the loud clicking the Qosmio makes when hitting the left or right button on the key pad. I had 8-10 dells before and they all made no sound when clicking. I like this machine more, but get frustrated with the noise on the "clicker". Even with that said I still think this is the best laptop or desktop I have owned.
When researching the product before buying I saw many who complained with the small space bar. I have no idea what they meant. It is smaller, true, but not a problem at all."

"It runs whatever I throw at it. I have never had so much stuff running in the background and STILL be able to play my games. I would say though that the compression through the speakers is a little weird, but I really have to check it through the headphone jack to see if the audio gets squashed there too. If there was an option to take out the compression from the audio, then I would definitely be doing that. Maybe ASIO drivers would help with that. But regardless, this is a great system. I am very satisfied."

"Positive Aspects: awesome perfomance, great screen (the 18.4" screen was one I of the reasons I've chosen this computer) and audio.
Negative Aspects: weight, glossy keybord and cover get dirty easily, comes full of crapware (you can get rid of it by simply formatting the solid-state drive), keys on the left side of the keyboard can be REALLY annoying when you are playing games.
Though improvements can be made, I am pleased with the computer and I would doubtlessly recommed it to a friend."

"VERY long lead time on order. I almost cancelled...
Case feels flimsy, feels like screen could flex and break from opening?!
System runs VERY HOT. Some areas under the screen feel hot enough to burn. This made me purchase an external laptop pad/fan to cool it off!!
Battery life is consistently around 2-2.5Hrs.
Nvidia kernal errors occasionally pop up saying "display driver quit responding and recovered."
Shiney, slick case shows all prints.
Face recognition does not work.
Power cord connector sticks out very far and makes this large machine need even more space.
Display is average at best."

"Opening the box, the machine is very impressive in its black and red colors. The keyboard is well thought out and very comfortable to use. Toshiba includes a pair of Harmon/Kardon speakers that produce the best sounding music I've ever heard on a laptop. Speed rules with this model, from the Solid State Drive, to the super fast CPU. The display is huge, 18.4 inches of high resolution graphics which fly though my programs with its 64 bit architecture. Throw in a Blu ray player which upgrades any DVD placed in the machine, and I can't think of any laptop bells and whistles that this machine doesn't have. A great buy, and for me, a great value."

"I would name it "Equilibrium".
If we're talking about an High Performance laptop, until now in 2010, this machine would be the point where;
"High Performance", "Quality", "Technology", "Portability", "Energy Star", "Price" and "Brand", shake their hands together.
This... all in one machine, will leave you at the breakpoint, where you have to think well: "Why go forward, why turn back"
I've been using it for about 2-3 months and the only attribute, that can't totally complete my opinion, is work over life...
Well, let's time decide it. For now it's with smart to the max. "Attach" a good laptop cooler to this work of science.
You'll need that, when you are prepared to push it to the max in long hours (just to stay safe for its life).
Other thoughts... Enjoy it like I do!"

Addendum to Pros/Cons Toshiba and X505-Q880 May 01, 2010

"Please note that touching the area containing the soft keys will result in turning the computer on or waking it from sleep. This is especially important due to how prone this laptop is to looking 'used' or 'dirty', making it all but impossible to gently wipe with a microfiber cloth because the computer will not only start but start Windows Media Player as well.
While I still highly recommend this computer I cannot stress enough that there are some rather irritating things about the X505-Q880 that are incredibly unnecessary problems to have. This completes my comments on one of them: the genuine inability to keep the computer clean, no matter how careful you are. I have no idea what Toshiba was thinking but they need to send out some sort of software to let us turn off the touch keys so that we can clean off our laptop."

I took the repair option and got the system back in 10 days. The power supply transformer runs very HOT! Alot of extra junk software installed that needs removed."

"It’s hard to believe that with all the hardware they put into this system they thought it would be a good idea to load all the software onto the solid state drive… This includes Microsoft office and all the rest of the trial programs. If you’re good at what you do this will only set you back a day uninstalling and reinstalling the software… That is if you have the disks…. I’m disappointed in the thought process… Seeing how the solid state drive will be filled up with all the Microsoft updates, I’m going to use this as a paperweight for now."

"The speed of this laptop is outstanding but the volume that the speakers produces is just short of nonexistant. If you are in a quiet room without ambient sounds the speakers are fine but out in the real world you can't hear them. Even after adding other speakers the volume range at maximum can just be heard. It may be the volume setting capablities that are flawed and not the speakers. I am upset that the keys rub against the monitor screen and scratch it and have had to add bumpers to lift the screen away from the keys. I don't believe it should have damaged the screen so quickly. It's only been a month. I also feel that the front loading slot for the CD/DVD drive that I had on my G35-AV600 was far superior to the tray that is featured on this unit."

"I have been shopping for a laptop for well over a year. I actually bought the 20" HP last year...twice. Each time I had a problem with the specific unit and returned it. I am a full time user of Chief Architect - a 3D Modeling program...so I need a computer with extreme power, performance and graphics capabilities. Basically I need an extreme gaming computer even though I'm not a gamer.
This computer is meeting or exceeding all of my expectations. It did take some tweaking though because of the size of the SSD and how much room Windows 7 takes up. When I first loaded Chief and Office I only had about 7GB remaining and was having big time performance problems. However, after optimizing the computer (messing with page files, locations of temp files, loading all software other than Chief on the secondary drive, etc.) I was able to reclaim about 20GB of space. Now with 27GB of free space everything seems to be running smoothly.
I highly reccomend this product...and for the price... I saved myself 2k over the HP! Although the screen is a little smaller (and no finger print reader which kind of bums me out) this laptop is superior...by far. Oh, one last thing... because of the SSD this laptop is beyond quiet."

"When I wanted a computer for gaming, I knew what I wanted. I wanted something could game on, with lightning speed, amazing graphics. My search led me right back to Toshiba and the Qosmio laptops. My sister had had one for years and I had liked it then. Now that they came out with this newer, better, faster, stronger model, I was hooked.
When it arived I was over joyed and it was well worth the money spent for it. I can game, while having Messenger's open along with photoshop AND itunes open at the same time. I got quality and function, plus it's drop dead sexy so that's a perk. It's on the heavier side, but it's still portable and makes a great desktop substitute. I just wish there was a way to get all the fingersprints to stay off of it XD

"I just got my Q880 yesterday, it feels very good, I had a "minor" problem, but now, I think it is solved.
The problem that I had was that when I turn it on for the first or second time I got the "cooling problem" issue, I was soo up set, I call the person how sold it to me (I am in Argentina, and it Toshiba doesn't excist pretty much) and told him what was going on. The wird thing, but lucky thing is that it didn appear any more. So I am glad or should I be worry? Any how I am monitoring the Temp and Fan and all is working like a charm. I didn't get to try on any major game, but I already put in some design software and it worked perfect. So I am happy with this buy. The computer replaced a P105 S921, I had it for over 3 years. I hope this is helpfull for somebody."

"This is an overall great laptop. Extremely fast and a great bargain. Comparing the competition, you cant touch a system like this unless you spend twice the price. SSD is fast and having another internal 500GB drive with a Core i7 makes this ideal for hosting many virtual servers.
The only downside that I have is the size/weight. I had to order a special laptop bag to carry it because most vendors do not have a bag for the 18" screen. Also, the power brick is huge. At about 12 lbs for power brick and the laptop, is not light but this is a desktop replacement. If you want the power and dont mind the size, this is the laptop to get. Plays games great too. "This laptop is by far the fastest computer I have ever had the pleassure of using. With the Windows 7 processor, the speed is exceptional. On the negative side, the solid state 64 GB drive is great, but I would have been wiling to pay for a larger capacity. The very worst feature of this laptop is the terrible, shiny finish. It is finger printed and filthy every time I use it. I have to constantly clean the surface and keys with a micro fiber cloth. My next and biggest gripe is the poor design of the keyboard. Beside being too shiny and prone to smudges and finger prints, the keys are designed so close together that it is very difficult to type without hitting multiple keys. I find this so objectionable that I would not reccomend this laptop. A little design aesthetics would certainly make sense. I expect I will not keep this computer long because of the reasons stated, so I hope some changes can be made before any future purchase. I wish I had seen and used the computer before purchasing."

"My original order was a X505-Q850. I thought only airlines upgraded customers, however it turns out Toshiba also upgrades its customers for free.
I am very happy with the Q880 however I gave 4 stars for features for a couple of reasons. When set to sleep after a certain time of inactivity the Q880 dies or crashes and you lose whatever you were working on. So don't leave your Q880 unattended for a long period, or just turn off the sleep mode like I did. The second negative thing is the annoying pop-up telling me to sign-up for Toshiba's online back-up offer. It does not have a "do not ask me again" tickbox so I get this pop-up everyday and I want to tell Toshiba "No I am not going to backup my files online, please leave me alone!"
Other than the above, I have not had any problems, I love the backlit keyboard, Face recognition is cool, the media button beeps are OK'ish I dont like it, I dont hate it...... You need a nice cloth to wipe the shiny piano-black surface. The HD screen is great for watching movies however you need to play with the settings when you check e-mail or surf the web since the text gets really small in the 1080 pixel mode, and any other resolution does not feel right. I am still searching for a good resolution setting combination. Overall it is very powerful, windows 7 is great, bootup time is around 20 seconds. This is the machine to get if you are not planning to take it out of the house."

"This is one hulking laptop, but it does perform. Only one trip with it so far, still loading software. Required a new Taurgus bag to hold it and its power supply. I was prepared for the weight of the laptop, but almost 2 pounds for the power supply?
Battery life was a real surprise (as was the size on an aircraft) Opened this up on a CRJ900 and it covered the tray. Easy to see and read though. After 90 minutes of flight the battery still read 2 hours of life. Unreal when my Dell will not do a two hour flight.
It has a full keyboard with the numeric keyboard and the keys are full size. The light up keyboard is a nice touch to boot.
Now the bad:
The power supply is heavy and no airplane/car adaptor.
the idiot pad on the left side is continually in the way. Cannot figure how to only have the volume buttons operational,
The inverted (for me) touch pad has me moving a cursor when I don't want to and the left and right buttons are too far removed from the pad and hard to get to.
The location of the delete key over the number pad where I should have page-up, page-down is again inconvenient.
Did I mention the power supply is HEAVY.
I was also disappointed that the video was 1920x1080 versus 1920x1200, but that would have added another couple inches to a huge laptop.
More once this thing completes the next quarter on the road. Expected to do about 4 flights a week for the next 17 weeks."

"I wish Toshiba had given us some clue as to how to manage the small solid state drive. By trial and error and searching the internet I have found out how to keep it from filling up. I already knew that all programs must be installed on the larger drive, but Toshiba had already installed MS Office on the smaller drive and I had to uninstall it and reinstall on the other drive. Why was this necessary? Toshiba should have put everything possible on the larger drive and made it the default for future installations and personal files. The "Folder Migrating Utility" is great but I had to find it by chance. Novice users would be totally lost. At the very least, instructions should have come with the laptop. There are instructions in the manual for many less important things. I am somewhere between a "Proficient User" and "Tech Savvy" but have had no experience with dual drives or partitioned drives."

Great looking system and gets lots of positive comments. Speakers are good for a laptop but if you want volume you'll need an external set. Battery life is good for the size screen. It is a bit large and heavy for a laptop but slim enough and well worth it. You are getting a high end system for half the price of others. The SSD drive is only 64GB on mine but ample for loading most of your programs with a 500GB SATA for storing your media, docs, minor programs, etc."

"I ordered my X505-Q880 on 1/21 and was pleasantly surprised when it arrived on 2/9 a week or so ahead of schedule.
Unfortunately after powering it up for the first time I received the following error - "Warning: A problem with the cooling system has been detected. Please turn off the computer immediately, and return it for service" - after about 20 - 30 minutes.
I got in touch with tech support the following day and after about 5 minutes was being transferred to customer service and had an RMA and fedex shipping label within a very short time.
I sent the laptop back on 2/12 and it was received by Toshiba on 2/16.
A credit on the initial order was issued and a new order for the replacement was entered on 2/16.
At this time - 2/23 - I have yet to receive an estimated ship date for the replacement unit and it has now been 1 month since the initial order was placed.
My Overall Rating of average reflects the customer service experience so far. The single stars on the rest of the criteria reflect the defective product that was shipped the first time and will be revisited when the replacement arrives."

"The Q880 is a beautiful machine. High performance, fairly easy to use, plays most games with ease at max settings. The eco boost feature dramatically improves battery life (up to 4 hours in my experience). Even without eco boost turned on the computer get amazing battery life for its size and performance. The harmon/kardon speakers are fairly decent. The webcam is excellent. Keyboard is a little cramped and the touchpad is a bit rough. Could benefit from having the Core i7 920XM as an optional upgrade, having a blu-ray writer and possibly a dialup modem (many of us still use that ancient technology). Its heavy, but its so worth it.
Overall this is a great machine. So far I have been thoroughly impressed, and would recommend this computer to anyone. Excellent desktop replacement, great gaming rig, handles audio/video editing beautifully.
Even if you don't need the power, you should so get one. It's that good."

"The pluses you read on other reviews are spot on. Huge bright screen. Blazing performance. Tons of features for relatively less money. Sound quality is great and the back-lit keyboard is awesome. I have read some complaints about the media controls on the left. The (annoying) beeping can be eliminated through the control panel. The heft, battery life and general lack of portability are to be expected from a machine of this size and shouldnt be any real problem. The screen and casing seem a bit flimsy for me and would be interesting to see how it fairs long-term. A locking case cover and an option for a speedier dual-core (for the non-gamers) are nit-picky requests from me. Overall, this is a super solid computer and a super solid bargain that I would HIGHLY recommend."

"Zippy, powerful, stable, and sexy.
Makes you feel 19 all over again. Go ahead and get the 12 cell battery! Better purchase a case along with it. This monster won't fit your other backpacks and cases. Thanks Toshiba! You people are magicians.
I use this beauty for animation and daily life."

"I did a lot of looking before buying a laptop. I did not want to downgrade when getting a desktop replacement. I play a lot of games so having a GPU with 1GB memory was a must, as was a quad core processor, which are not that common. I love the big screen, the fact it is full HD as opposed to some that are not at full resolution. Games play great on it and it boots fast. I like the SSD having the OS on it, but when installing other items, everything wants to install to that by default since it is the primary drive, and there just isn't any room on it for much else. There is tons of bloatware that I have been slowly trying to uninstall. When watching a blu ray disk, there is barely any sound, even at full volume. Not sure if it is just that one disk or will be on all of them. The previews on the disk came out at a much higher level. The battery life stinks, but what can you expect from this monster. It weighs alot, but I am not planning on lugging it everywhere I go, just from bedroom to living room. The case should have a latch for when it is closed. The multimedia buttons do not bother me as they do some people, except the volume buttons beep loudly when touched. For all this has on it, it is well worth the price, as I could not find any other laptop out there for even close to the price with the options I wanted such as this one has. Would highly recommend."

"What a great computer, I was going to by another Dell XPS but this Toshiba had many more features for a lot less cash, great value. The webcam could be better but it is good enough. The boot up speed with Win/7 and the SSD are just incredible, I hardly use Sleep Mode any more but when I do it is instantaneous. The case flexes a little bit, my last Dell XPS is solid as a rock but for $1000 less I can deal with it."

"Beautiful laptop, backlit keyboard (that amazes me every time I touch it), large clear and crisp screen with powerful laptop speakers and sound quality. There isn't anything not to love about this laptop. No problems with anything I have tried so far. I am not a gamer but bought this for the graphics and speed. Many additional new features to explore-such as Bulletin Board and Toshiba Reeltime. Easy to get around the new Windows 7-best OS yet. A little heavy but for me I use only at home. I will get a case when I find a red and black one to match my computer. I like a wireless mouse but easy to use the touchpad after slowing speed down on it. Blu-ray has true to life clarity as well as Music CD's have wonderful clear sound. There are many settings to raise level of sounds. The solid state HD is small but there is a second 500 GB drive also.
I removed Norton and installed AVG newest free version and it great.
I ordered mine from Toshiba directly and it arrived 5 weeks sooner than online states.
Love it!! There is definate quality in all aspects of this laptop."

"A guy walks into my office, looks at my new Q880, asks about the performance details. It satisfies me seeing his heart break as he compares the Q880 with the Alienware he just spent $3,600 on. This is definitely a great deal on a nice gaming computer.
Everything has met or exceeded my expectations on this computer. I am finally able to play COD4: Modern Warfare 2 in full quality with the resolution set at 1920x1080 and no lag. I expect all my games will be a blast.
I have read complaints that the "buttons" to the left of the keyboard are too sensative or are being activated by mistake. I found that it just takes some getting used to, I used to hit them all the time but after only a couple times I have stopped completely. The keyboard is very nice and feels great to type on and having a number pad is really convenient. It's nice to be able to disable the touch pad with the push of a button.
It's a big heavy machine but that's what I wanted, if I cared that much I could have bought a 13 or 14 inch laptop instead. One issue I have, as some one else stated, is that the screen does not lock when closed. It would have been nice to have a latch or something but at nearly 20 pounds this machine will not be toted around much."

"I am impressed with this laptop overall. Amazing performance and feature packed. The multi touch control pad was a pleasant surprise also. Pluses... The HUGE bright screen, speed and crisp sound. Minuses... the glossy finish is a finger print magnet and the heft might turn off some people. Although its a quad core which might be good for 3D gamers, a faster Dual Core probably would have made this perfect. All around though, a very solid effort and great buy."

"If you are looking for a desktop replacement, this is the best laptop out there for the price. Of course the system need to be tweaked to get rid of some extras you don't need, but in the end the amount of memory, CPU, GPU, and the SSD make this a an awesome machine. The system boots up and is ready to use in about 30 seconds from a cold boot. The Blueray drive plays movies prefectly on the large screen and the first battery life test was actually better than we expected. The 360M plays graphics beautifully. Make no mistake, this is a desktop replacement. The machine is heavy and large, but tehn you get a get sized battery and screen."

"This laptop has some really good aspects but unfortunately has many problems.
Things I liked:
Very fast - it compiles my work source tree 50% faster than my Latitude E6500.
Great Graphics - runs World of Warcraft at full speed with all effects turned all the way up.
Huge amount of memory.
Backlit keyboard.
Seems to run fairly cool for the power.
The SSD seems nice and fast.
Things I didn't like:
No cover latch so the cover bounces around while carrying.
The spacebar is tiny (just under 3 inches).
Keyboard reaction is slow. I type fast and often words with double letters it misses the second letter.
Only has USB 2.0 ports instead of 3.0.
Has touch sensitive buttons on the left side for controlling multimedia which are really easy to accidentally hit with your pinky (you only have to touch the laptop surface to 'press' one). The one I usually hit annoyingly brings up Windows Media Player unintentionally.
Comes loaded with a ton of crapware (I guess all manufactures do this now). But some of it is really unnecessary - for example the laptop comes with Microsoft Works AND a Microsoft Office 60-day trial.
The default partitioning is weird. This laptop has a really nice 64GB SSD - which is partitioned such that only 48GB is setup as 'C:' and the recovery disk takes the rest - instead of putting the recovery stuff on the huge 500GB HD.
Even when not being heavily taxed the battery life isn't great (about 2.5 - 3 hours).
Not necessarily bad - but be aware:
At 10lbs and having a large power supply this thing is a monster."

"Although I do very little gaming, this "gaming computer" is very proficient in many other day-to-day tasks such as internet use, musical enjoyment, and considering it's massive size for a laptop, it is quite portable.
So far my only complaint is an issue between the computer and Microsoft Office 2007 Student edition. When I attempt to open a word document by double-clicking, an error is displayed and the document will not open. I have to first open Word and then open the document from inside the program. I have tried using compatability but it does not seem to work. This could easily be a user error on my part.
Aside from that I reccomend this sleek, attractive laptop for those who want to go "all out" on a laptop."
