"This is the best investment I have ever purchased. I was looking to replace my other Toshiba and decided to stay with the brand. Since having this i5 processor, I'm amazed at how fast everything pops up with the click of a button. The sound from the Harman/Kardon speakers are amazing.
Since I work long hours on it, the backlit keypad comes in handy also.
Thank you Toshiba for making great reliable products."

"This laptop is absoulutely amazing. This is by far the greatest computer ive been on. Runs flawlessly every time I turn it on, the processors reaction is instant,the full size keyboard is very handy, and list goes on! Best laptop in the A665 series, who knows, maybe in the whole toshiba line up?"

"I've had several laptops, but this is my first Toshiba. Overall, I like it quite well. Two areas are troubling -(1) the touch pad isn't very easy to use - sometimes doesn't move at all; (2) the spacebar requires a "heavy touch" to put spaces between words.
I especially like the backlit keyboard and the built-in 10-key pad."

"I just purchased a satelllite A665-5173 and whenever I am listening to music on windows media player and run the toshiba pc heatlh diagnostic monitor will appear a noisy sound coming from the speakers.
The same problem appears when a move slightly my laptop with the hdd protection turned on or off it doesnt matter that noise appears!!!"

"I previous had Toshiba L655 S5157 and had little minor problems so I decided to pay extra to get A665 S5173 and believe me its worth since it was on sale. The main issue is the speakers noise clicking, this occurs when I move the laptop around or bump it. Make sure you check your laptop good because once you buy it that’s it."

"It works quickly. Has plenty of memory for most situations. Do have a problem with Internet Explorer, but the store loaded Firefox, so am fine. Lighted keyboard is wonderful. I use skype and the picture and sound is great. the Dolby Advanced Audio is the best. I have to turn it down. This laptop replaced my 12 year old HP tower."

"The performance features are great. The appearance is good. However, I do not like windows 7. I have had to get new software for the important programs I run. The feature that should allow us to run software from Windows XP, does not work. Windows 7 is highly flawed. The computer did not have the basic word program and exel that I am used to getting with a new purchase. So there are issues I like and issues I don't like. The worst part about the computer is that the screen brightness and contrast cannot be reset. Yeah, they take you through the process of resetting it. But it doesn't hold. You will need to download another program if you want to adjust your screen resolution so that you can see it well."

"The specs on my A665-S5173 are excellent - I needed a fast desktop replacement with ten-key, comfortable keyboard and the power to multitask with Office, photo- and video-editing, etc. The combination of an i5 processor, a 15in screen, and a full-size ten-key is tough to find at a reasonable price, so I am pleased Toshiba put one together.
Unfortunately the laptop I received had hardware problems (bad USB port, keyboard problem). Toshiba Service has been excellent so far and I expect my laptop to be better than new when it returns from the shop."

"Toshiba worked well from the first press of a button. This is a new experience for this reviewer following years of loyalty to the HP line of products. Consideration of Toshiba came down to processor quality (Intel) and grade (Core 5), RAM memory capacity (4-8 Gigs), 500 gig harddrive, plenty of room for USB connections plus HDMI port, keyboard layout that included number pad in a modestly-sized machine.
A negative (could be the typist) is a regular tendency for letters to run together, despite a sturdy press on the space bar...and occasionally in typing a line, the characters begin to appear where the cursor happens to be on the screen! With Windows 7 as the OS, performance is reliable and self-upgrading. I think we'll be friends for several years!"

"It's a very nicely designed laptop that doesn't overheat at all, excellent wifi signal, excellent other cool stuff, but you know what? Laptops by general rule have a lot of processes running, most of them created by apps that comes built in. I was wondering if that many processes could be reduced in the future, so the i5 really feels."

"I Continue to have problems with using this laptop. First I had problems of freezing up and had to remove a program I had Installed. The latest program I installed is giving me fits also. Now unable to open up programs after installing a Seagate BU external hard drive."

"This laptop is super fast. The keys are the perfect size (also soft and sensitve enough) to be able to type fast. The light up feature is perfect as to not wake up your husband or children when you're trying to work out of bed. It is light to carry and super fast. I think its even faster than my computer at work! I'm really impressed with the battery life. My other laptop's battery is messed up again. It can't go 15 minutes without having to get recharged."

"This is the second Satellite I've owned & in the short time I've had it I'm impressed & not disappointed. Good speed, light weight for its size & good graphics. Full size keyboard is a real plus but the learning curve has slowed me some."

"This is 2nd attempt- When I capitalize- the size of the whole page changes. Right now I am at 85%. When I try to fix this I lose the whole page.
I accidently wiped out all of my emails. Why would you put an X to wipe everything out on theemail page?
Love the keys on the keyboard however I bought it so I could use computer in early AM and the keyboard does not stay lit so I have to have lights on!!!!"

"EXCELLENT!!! This is my first laptop and I am completely satisfied with the entire computer. The only thing that i am having to get used to is the button to open the DVD drive. It is so small that I have to actually look to find it. Maybe they could get a better designon a way to feel the button without getting it broken."

"Performance so far has met most expectations. I didn't like the touch pad for cursor control because inadvertant touches would start a task, not necessarily the item I was seeking. I purchased a wireless mouse and all is good. Have not evaluated the battery life yet. So far I am very pleased with the performance."

"overall a good machine. We purchased because we wanted the number keypad. the only problem which is really bad is the screen glare and also not being able to push the screen back to get a good eye position. My HP screen can lie flat."

"I like this computer except for one very bad feature. The touchpad is way to sensitive and the cursor hangs up and at times does things I don't want it do. It's really too bad that toshiba builds great laptops except for the touchpad. Having to buy and use a regular mouse because the touchpad is junk is pretty screwed as the purpose of having a laptiop is to be able to take it almost anywhwere without a mouse."

"this is my second satellite. toshiba has made many improvements over the first. the lighted keyboard is incredible (although there is a design flaw toshiba needs to work on--the lighting comes out from the sides of the keys which shines in your eyes when your knees are raised). all in all, a great fast computer."

"Had this computer a few weeks now. Got a good price on it, and was very easy to setup out-of-the box. Response and fast, but considering it is an I5 chip set I was expecting it to be a bit faster. I got a "not responding" on the browser today for just a few seconds. First time that has occurred since I have had this laptop, maybe it is the graphics processor that is not quite up to the I5 level? The only other complaint is that this laptop does not have a slot to read my SD card from my camera. Instead I have to buy an express card adapter that will read other cards."

"I really like the design of the laptop. Its the perfect weight, not too heavy and not too light. The screen size perfect for a home media laptop. I found the 14" a bit small and this size is perfect! The materials used on the lid do not allow there to be finger prints. I am really finding it hard to find faults with this device. I suppose toshiba could start shipping these with SSDs. I dropped in an Intel X25 SSD and reinstalled Windows 7 and it works flawlessly."

"I am running Fedora x86_64 and it works great. Most laptop features work under Fedora with the exception of the LEDs under the keyboard and the WiDi (not a laptop flaw, but an OS problem). Other than that this laptop handles the OS well. This is a well-built laptop, fairly thin and not heavy. Came with 4GB RAM, 500GB drive, good speakers and nice bright screen."

"When you pay for a premium product with a great processor and ample hard drive, it is a bit disappointing that it does not include a 12 volt battery, why nickel and dime your customers, I am aware the most laptops come with 6 volt batteries, but buyer beware you better be near a charging outlet. Not even good battery life with the eco setting."

"WOW,this laptop is way more than i thought i was buying.the sales clerk went on and on about all it has to offer me and when i got home and used it for about a week i found out that he didnt tell me the half of it. "I have had the Toshiba A665-S5173 Satellite laptop for a little over two weeks. It is a Pentium i5 CPU with 4g ram and a 500g hard drive.
The exterior case is fingerprint resistant. The machine seems light. It has a bit of a plastic-like feel to it especially on the bottom of the case. There are 3 USB ports which is a plus. I have not had any problem with the machine running hot. And, the power adapter doesn’t get very hot either. The machine is very quiet.
The backlit Keyboard feature is nice. I don’t like the super smooth key surfaces. the 10-key pad is fine, but I don’t really use it. I don’t like the fact that the arrow keys are so small. The webcam seems to be pretty low end.
I have not removed all of the Toshiba bloatware yet.
I like the fact that you can turn off the mouse pad.
Windows 7 Home premium boots in less that 40 seconds. The machine is fast with with the i5 processor. Software I have loaded, installs quickly. I am not a gamer so I will not be stress testing the graphics processing. I will be using it for Office documents, E-mail, websurfing, programming and web development.
The screen looks good.
The speakers sound tinny but then they are just little laptop speakers. I can't speak about the Dolby Advanced Audio feature. I have not tested the battery life against the clock.
Overall I think this a solid machine and I would recommend that people take a look at it when shopping for i5 laptops."

"I've used Toshiba for 11 years and except for the usual "hiccups" now and then, I've never had any major problems. The older machines were each replaced with newer faster models. The older ones were "cleaned up" and donated to "Computers for Schools."

"After looking around for two weeks I decided on the Toshiba A665S5173. A friend of mine has the model before this one and loves it. The i5 is very fast and 4GB is plenty. It has a full size key board/ten key, excellent display and the best speakers I have ever heard on a laptop. I'm also happy with the finish (reduced fingerprints). I had the trial software removed, installed my antivirus and am good too go! They might be stretching it a bit regarding the battery life, but I recommend this laptop for home, business or travel."
