"I'm very frustrated because the keyboard has quit working on my Toshiba Satellite - not all of it, some of the top row keys work. It's not crumbs under the keyboard nor a liquid spill; I have been uber-careful to keep liquids away from the laptop, and to keep it covered. I can use the onscreen keyboard at the password prompt to get into the computer, and I was able to stream videos for a while. Today the mouse/cursor has mostly quit working. I have not had time to take the computer in due to travelling and being busy, and I'm glad I still have my old one. I've read reviews that sometimes the keyboard "just stops working" but usually starts up again after a reboot after a period. Mine has not."

"I've had a several of Toshiba computers and have had good luck with all of them. They seem to be a good value product. I use it for both personal and helping with a small business. I don't want or need a system that has "all" the bells and whistles, just one that works well with some finance programs and word processing programs. The Toshibas I have filled the purpose."

My son did a couple of fixes but the overall system of Windows 8 stinks- as my son says - it is not intutitive- that is you cannot figure things out on your own - you have to know the yucky little quirks they have built into it. "We bought the laptop thinking it was a good deal, but the computer lasted less than 3 months. To fix the LCD sceen would cost 2/3 of what we originally spent on the computer. We did not drop it. We did not sit on it. We did not put in by heat. They said it could be due to dust, but my house is not that dirty and we had a case for it. This was the worst money we ever spent. If dust is an issue and a laptop cannot sit in your lap without it breaking then you need to add filters to prevent damage. One another note...Windows 8 is not real user friendly compared to past software programs."

"ihad been looking at laptops for over a year before actually buying this one and i'm happy i did. the screen is a perfect size and resolution. windows 8 does take a day or so to get used to as does the touchpad for the mouse but that can be modified by getting a wireless mouse. the batterg has a pretty good lfe. i can watch up to two and a half hours of streaming tv and still have about an hour before i plug it in to charge. the sound could be Improved but over all i am very satisfied and would definitely buy this laptop again."

"This laptop performs pretty well as far as speed, memory, etc. However, the Windows 8 OS that came with the machine is absolutely terrible. Not intuitive whatsoever, it takes about three times longer to figure out/perform normal functions than it does on a Mac, or even an earlier version of Windows. I may try to convert the OS back to an earlier version at some point, since working with Windows 8 is extremely inefficient."

"This computer is great for what I use it for. I do not like Windows 8, so I downloaded the classic start from windows 7. The mouse seems a little touchy and will open stuff on it's on sometimes which gets annoying. I set the mouse to be slower, couldn't find a sensitivity setting, has helped some, but still does it occasionally. But great other than that. I mainly use my computer for the internet, paying bills, etc. and facebook."

"I use this laptop for simple things like homework and watching YouTube or other shows while I'm hanging out in my bedroom. Often when I'm sliding my finger along the mouse touch pad, the screen will randomely switch to something else, as if I've triggered a shortcut. I can't figure this glitch out, so it's a little frustrating but manageable. The picture is beautiful and overall I'm happy with my new friend."

"Had for a couple weeks when the space bar started to not respond. Then a couple weeks later the F key quit working. Have had a replacement for a week. Also hinge pinches your leg if you actually use it on your lap. I also have to cover the white lights on the front at night. They are so bright they light up the room when I try to sleep. My former laptop had blue lights that weren't bothersome."

"Really poor sound from the speakers is a major problem in both volume and quality. Would NOT have purchased this laptop had I checked it out more carefully. "I bought this laptop because its a good brand and was a good price. Its very light and Compaq and has a lot of features. It has windows 8 but that's not an issue. There are programs to make windows 8 more like windows 7 if a user wants too. I returned the laptop after 3 days because there was problems with the DVD drive and windows update refused to update. I did not purchase a replacement Toshiba as I had already spent too much time on it. I'm not sure if it was a bad unit itself or a problem with the line. I did not want to find out. IN all fairness I did check other user reviews on various sites before buying it and the general consensus was that it was a decent budget laptop."

"I had a Toshiba previously and it seemed to perform well. However this one seems to have a faulty keyboard system which makes it unreliable. The first one had a key break apart and it was replaced with a new one after Toshiba said it would have to be returned to the factory. That one evidently had a small amount of coffee spilled on it and the keyboard went crazy. It was also replaced under the extended warranty plan. But the keyboard failure makes it unsuitable for general use. I want something that isn't failure prone."

"This laptop is great; But I dislike the OS. I absolutely with a passion hate Windows 8. I do not like the Start Screen. I don't like having the live tiles. I feel like this OS was made for a tablet only and they should have continued the Windows 7 superbar style into their computer Operating Systems. Side panel is always coming up when I do not want it. When I try to move the cursor out of the top left corner, it changes the screen from the desktop to the photos screen to the start screen."

"I have a Toshiba that's about 5 years old and I love it...never a problem. When it came time to buy a second one, I looked at other brands but the price and reliability of the Toshiba made it a no-brainer. I can't tell you how much I hate Windows 8 though. Haven't found anything about 8 that I do like. That's not Toshiba's problem though. Only thing I thought they should have loaded on the machine was Skype; since it came with a web cam. Otherwise...all good."

"I am very unhappy with my laptop purchase. After having the computer for only a few days we noticed a pixel defect in the screen. There is a green dot that does not go away. If I am having problems with it already I can only imagine what it will be like in a year. Windows 8 is a whole different problem. I keep expecting it to get better with more use but every time I use it I hate it more. I wish I had known what a pain it is to use. I would have bought an apple product instead."

"At first I thought it was Windows 8 I was having trouble with. So I gave it time to learn the new OS. This is my 3rd Toshiba laptop. Before that I was strictly Dell. My wife bought a Toshiba and it surprised me. Well this one is just a big ol' pile of junk. It locks up constantly. I only have 1 program installed and less than 3GB of photos. It is extremely slow going on the internet. Now 1 USB port has stopped working and now I had to go find a wireless mouse in the office cause the mousepad has quit as well. I figured it was a setting issue. it will not let me change the settings and doesn't recognize the mouse pad. I put it side by side with a comparably equipped Gateway and went to the same sites and opened the same programs. To put it kindly I could go and get another bottle of water out of the kitchen in the time it took to load this Toshiba. I ersonally think they loaded it with so many temporary apps that it cant process the load. And not surprisingly the store that sold it to me with the upgraded warranty has no clue how to resolve this and has even told me I should just buy a new laptop cause they have heard this before. But I get daily offers from Toshiba to purchase upgrades at midnight no matter what. Save time and buy something else. This one is going in my kids room so my 5 year old can explore monster jam websites. On second thought I don't want to put a bad taste in his mouth for computers at an early age"

Some kind of status blinking light when the hard drive is working would have been nice, but nothing. "I do not like Windows 8. I had a heck of a time getting around with MSN and FINALLY got it changed to Yahoo so that I am able to go where I want! The computer makes weird noises at times when I try to start it up and won't start. "This is not Toshiba's greatest product. Nor, is it one of their most expensive. Performance is good. Screen resolution is very good. Sound is awful. Speakers are tinny and if you are going to watch video or listen to music you'll want to add external speakers. Would I recommend this model to a friend, only after I advise them to be sure what they are buying. I would suggest an actual hands on demo before purchasing. Would I recommend Toshiba to a friend, most diffidently. OBTW, I'm not a big fan of windows 8. ."

"I researched this laptop considerably before purchasing. Like other reviews I saw and agree with; the sound is not of high quality at all and the battery life is so-so. If using this for documentation & such the battery life is sufficient. But if used for gaming, then no. There is no warning if your battery is about to die. The system just shuts down. The keyboard has nice square keys for those with sausage fingers and at times can be touchy. The usb ports on the right side are inconveniently placed too close for those who use a mouse with any plug in devices. Too easy to keep bumping into what is plugged in. Screen size is decent as are the graphics. Comes with an abundance of apps to use. Set aside getting accustomed to Windows 8 this laptop is awesome! Size/wt is great for travel and definitely great for those on-the-go or students. You won't be disappointed this this one!"

"This laptops is well designed and performs well, but is very inhibited by Windows 8 unless you are a proficient 8 user already. I would be very much more comfortable with Windows 7, but I am still on a fairly step learning curve after 3 weeks. I do recommend this laptop as a good value for one who has no need for touch screen applications. And that's the whole rub; Windows 8 does not transition smoothly form Windows 7 and back, in my humble opinion. I do like the screen resolution and screen size. The touch pad is not always cooperative by it definitely performs better with a damp finger than a dry one. The best news for me was getting some good customer service from the Toshiba Tech Support Group. I would use them again in a flash if it were opportune to do so. Tony W."

"I bought a Satellite C855D-S5320. No it is not as fast as my desk top p/c. Yes, I too hate Wondows 8. I would prefer Windows 7. Satellite C855D-S5320 works well enough for my intentions. I bought it so I could keep in touch with family while travelling. Hope it holds up. No I don't like keyboard, but it is a laptop. Battery lasts me only about 3.5-4 hours not 6 as claimed and I have it set on energy conserve. Gave it 4 stars as it seems like it will do what I want it to do, store photos, send e-mail use to Web to get info on sites before I arrive at them"

"The biggest problem when I first bought the laptop was getting used to the Windows 8 operating system and the "features" included. I disabled most wiping features with the mousepad because they simply became annoying, bringing in control panels on the edges when all I wanted to do was move the mouse pointer on the screen. The other major problem I have is the non responsiveness of certain keys. Many times I have had to go back and retype or respace because the key or spacebar didn't respond."

"While working on the internet the font began to get small and did not stop until I could barely read it. The curson freezes while in movement. The date stamp pop-up appears without notice causing any movement of the crusor to freeze. Unable to close an app after it has been selected intentionally or not Skyp via Explorer and the app work differently - confusing"

"Would you folks please keep it simple??? No passwords...no pretty pictures...no multiple email-things to confuse me and my husband...no Facebook...no twitter...no games, etc. Can't you make a simple computer with the ability to get onto the internet per our chosen browser, w/a good Office Suite like MS Office or preferably Open Office, a calculator, Notepad??? Remember when cars and pickups had no carpet (and were easy to clean)? No electric windows? An engine you could actually troubleshoot? No power steering? And they didn't cost as much as a house? Make a simple computer and a simple operating system. I started with Windows 1. It was much easier. Yes, I've also used an Apple Mac. And yes, I know that I've probably insulted every engineer at both Toshiba and Microsoft."

"This particular laptop is ok, our major concern is with the mouse. We have tried to adjust sensitivity, but it still flips from screen to screen for no apparent reason. It is very frustrating, especially when trying to learn the new widows 8, which flips around like crazy on top of it. I am actually not using it very much because of this. My husband is a computer professional, and even he can't figure why it does this. The rough texture of the pad takes some getting used to."

"I bought this laptop because I have always gone with Toshiba. My 17 inch Toshiba Satellite is amazing with a sturdy case and a great keyboard. The sound is also very pleasing to the ears. Unfortunately the new Satellites do not seem to have kept the same quality. The case is flimsy and seems prone to breakage, the keyboard feels thin and lacks rigidity, and the speakers were more tinny than most cellphones put on speaker mode. Also the drivers are never updated on Toshiba products. To be fair the overall power of the processor and graphics is better than ever and the screen was beautiful. For a little more money the higher end models might be better!"

"It took a while to get used to the new Windows operating system. Now that I am proficient and actually productive on the computer, I can provide my opinion. The computer is fast and has lots of hard drive space. I wish the screen were taller, rather than wider.The keyboard keys stick a bit, leaving lots of typos when typing quickly. The cost of the laptop is very good for what you are getting in performance."

"When I purchased this laptop it was loaded with WIndows 8, which is an EXTREME resource hog ( can you say VISTA ?) I must say, as my 3rd TOSHIBA machine, I was a little disappointed. Switching to Windows 7 Ultimate (32bit) made it a PERFECT machine !!! Light, GREAT battery life ( i get around 4.5 hours.) Does everything i need, and I can use all my familiar programs !!!"

"I have only had my laptop for not quite two months. It works good for what I want it for. I do not care for the WIndows 8. I find it a little difficult to get around and find things, but overall the laptop works well and is doing what I want from it. The price was reasonable and other then the battery life not always lasting long and occasionally having trouble to boot up(which may be a user problem) it will do till I need something else."

I had to call the customer support center, to have the location of my weather and my location on the map show my physical location correct. "It does have shortcomings, the keyboard is not fast enough, meaning, the keys have to be pushed through the bottom of the laptop before it recognizes that you want that letter typed, which means that I will wear out the backspace key soon. The screen feels flimsy, as if it would fold in half if you opened it too fast, but these are actually minor inconveniences compared to the fact that it has Windows 8 on it, and Windows 8 is horrible."

"My biggest gripe is the mouse pad. It makes it difficult to search the internet because if you don't stick exactly to the middle of the pad, other windows open up or the window you are using closes. The side screen keeps popping up as well all because your finger moves to far over to the side. This feature alone drives me nuts. Not to mention when I am typing, hitting certain keys triggers other features to activate. I have figured out how it happens but to someone else who is less experienced this could lead them to spend money getting the laptop assessed when it is simple as hitting the exact keys that activated the feature. To fix the mouse pad issue I went out and bought a wireless mouse, which works much better. Overall I probably wouldn't purchase this again or recommend it to someone who uses there computer for office work or business."

"Windows 8 is not as convience or friendly as windows 7. I am looking at downgrading my features from 8 to 7 because 7 was a more suitable. I find Windows 8 is only usable if you have a touch screen. It does not work well with normala laptops and although I have learn to manuever around I do not find it as friendly as Windows 7. I find this laptop processor is slower than the previous Toshiba I had and I found it to be disappointing. If I purchased another Toshiba laptop I would make sure it had a better processor in it."

"However, there is one important feature that is missing at least for me a word processing program. It does not come with one pre-installed. I am used to the Office set up and could use Office365 but don't really like it all that well. I own several Office 2010 programs and will be using one of those to install on it if Microsoft allows it :( That is the ONE and only flaw with this laptop. Another problem I had is that It did not come with any software like to reinstall windows or a users manual. I realize that this is intended to save paper however it would be nice if it at least came with the installation software. In case something happens to it."

"I had a Toshiba for 10-12 years and it was a great machine. Getting messages that the hard drive was about to crash, I decided not to replace it and put the money towards a new laptop instead. "When purchasing a new laptop I was drawn to the Toshiba brand name because it's been a long standing company for many years. I have had Toshiba lap tops in the past and they were nice machines. This product is exactly what I needed and the price was reasonable. Its lightweight, slim design is easy to carry around my home to wherever I choose to use it. The battery life is great. It has a decent speaker that can be heard without using an external speaker system. (however I do use one, but if it's not handy it works just fine.) I like the product and I'm happy that I chose Toshiba once again."

"Right out of the box, the Toshiba laptop worked perfectly. I have had Toshiba laptops in the past and a Toshiba desktop, but tried a different laptop and had nothing but trouble. I am so happy to be back with a Toshiba laptop. As I became more proficient with Windows 8, I ordered a RAM upgrade. When I am ready to replace my primary machine, I will definitely replace it with a Toshiba."

"Windows 8 is not a user friendly program. It is nothing like its prior version (Window 7). For example the mail icon for trash is grouped together with some other icons on mail page and it is very easy to accidently delete mail into trash. Any time you move the cursor on the screen another screen pops up and you lose your page or you can't open a window by tapping on it. That's just a few examples of why we are not happy. Not user friendly!!!"

"When I bought this lap top I was expecting to have something that worked like it is suppose to. The mouse pad keeps going out on me so luckily I ordered a separate mouse for it. I can not connect it to the TV so that I can have the bigger screen when I need it. The battery life is only about 3 hours at any given time. The space bar sticks on me consistently so I am constantly having to go back and separate words. Even the other keys are starting to stick now. I honestly want to send it back but I have already entered so much info onto it that I really don't have the patience to take off."

"IF Toshiba could do --INSTALL A DRIVER TO USE WINDOWS 7 INSTEAD OF 8!!! This machine was NOT made for 8. The value was excellent--price wise. The picture screen is excellent. The keybord has a cheap feel, clunky compared with my old Compaq--and the speakers are terrible. You MUST use a headset to listen to anything. If I had another $1,000--I would have gotten a Mac. This is a back up machine that I use in my warehouse where there is no internet, so the wifi comes in handy."

"I bought this laptop to replace my Vaio. I love this laptop because it runs great, and has not given me any problems at all. I am a college student and it works lovely for my uses, which includes using Microsoft Office, and the internet quite frequently. I sometimes play games on it too and it is fine for those, but I don't know how it would do with games that are more intense than the ones that come with the computer. "The Satellite 855 is a good computer, but putting Windows 8 on it was a bad move. Windows 8 is a touch screen driven program, and the small touch pad on the Satellite makes it aggravating. I know Windows is committed to 8, but it is junk."

"From Day 1 laptop kept freezing up, or wouldn't come on even though battery was charged, had to make several calls to Geek Squad, could take battery out and put it back in and would work for a while, mouse froze up wouldn't work. After one week of everything going wrong, took back to store. This was a discontinued model which I didn't know at the time I bought it. They had no more so I bought a different brand laptop and it does fine."

"I've tried both macs and PCs and have come to believe PCs were for serious computing and macs were for kids. Now, with Windows 8 it seems like PCs are trying to become macs, abandoning what makes PCs preferable and taking on all of the bling of macs. The features that might make sense on a touch screen are just annoying in the absence of the touch screen. OK, this is more a review of the operating system, but I think Toshiba could have made some effort to tune the operating system to suit the computer that did not have the touch screen."

"This laptop does everything I need it to do. The HDMI port is great to connect to my HDTV to view Netflix on-line. The USB 3.0 will be handy as new devices become available. The touch pad works very well. The Intel Pentium Duo Core B980 processor will provide me all the power I need now and into the future. It is lightweight, and does not get hot sitting on your lap. The wireless is very sensitive and easily picks up the wireless router in my house. The only negative comment I would have is the sound from the speakers is less than satisfactory. Overall I really like this laptop. Now Windows 8 is another story. At this point, I really dislike it, and I am sure that it is a learning curve for me. But Microsoft has some really annoying features they need to fix, like the disappearing scroll bar."

"I thought a lot about buying a tablet or Google Chromebook. Their prices were right along the price of this laptop. "I was always afraid of using a laptop. When given the opportunity of borrowing another laptop from a friend to do a presentation to a group I was afraid I would not be able to handle the laptop as compared to my own PC, I was surprised at the similarities but subtle differences in the laptop. It was another brand to my Toshiba. When searching for my personal laptop the Toshiba had all the necessary tools that would fit my present situation. I especially liked the mouse and the larger size pad that comes with the machine. I was never a big fan of the pad mouse system. It is amazing the chages that have come so natural from all aspects of the Toshiba."

"I have a Windows 7 computer and it is a little too small but efficient. I have trouble typing on it. This Toshiba I am still thinking about. I see that Windows 8 does not work as well without the touch screen. My mouse freezes and I am unable to do anything. I ha trouble with charging as well. I really like the screen and what Windows 8 can do, and I am still learning the differences. My fiancee also bought a Toshiba and he really loves it, even though it was for a child. I really like the type of key board it has, which is rubber. I like Toshiba so far."

"Overall this is a nice laptop with nice features, but when I first got this laptop, the internet connection would drop and not connect back even if I restarted it. I learned I had to update my wireless router. Now that that problem is solved, I'm currently suffering from a different problem. The laptop randomly shuts down. "Previous Toshiba laptop was good...only complaint was speed. This replaces that nonworking laptop (destroyed through an accident.) Speed is better than the old one, so my only complaint has been dealt with. I have had no issues or trouble of any kind with this laptop. "This laptop is for those looking for decent configuration at best price. Definately not for rugged use, it should be considered only for ocassional use. The big drawbacks of this laptop are its touchpad and keypad. The touchpad is grainy, so it doesn't give a smooth finger movement. Also the cursor movement is jerky. Sometimes it just does not respond to the input. That is frustrating. Best option is to use external mouse instead of the touchpad. The keypad is also filmsy. It feels as if after 1 or 2 years of continuous use the keys might just start poping up. For rugged users it might be of big concern. The configuration to price factor runs in favor of this laptop. The processor is dual core and does all the basic stuff pretty well. I do not expect it to do high end stuff. RAM is 6 GB which I feel is unnecessary. It could have done with 4 GB as well. But more is better I guess.Harddisk is 640GB decent size. This laptop could be used for browsing, watching videos. Doesn't seem to be a gaming laptop definately."

"This computer should not be used for anything except surfing the web. Running windows 8 and with 4 gb of ram, with an underpowered AMD processor makes it a real dog when you try to multi-task. The processor is not a true dual core processor, check the AMD web site. If you turn off all the junk that windows 8 has running the system is usable for a lite weight work laptop. Make sure you have at least 8 gb of ram. When using the track pad you must make sure that you don't touch it in more than one place or the mouse will freeze for several seconds. The laptop might be a better system if you load windows 7 on it. Comes with a lot of junk apps that need to be removed."

"The Toshiba laptop is okay... but I am disappointed in the program it came with Window's 8. It is a nightmare!! I could do no good with the computer and almost took it back until someone told me to load Google Crome, which made it much better to navigate in. I am not happy that with any little movement, the dang thing magnifies and I am constantly having to bring it back to normal. I love Toshiba's and the computer itself is okay.. the junk they put on it is a nightmare."

"I have multiple students working on this laptop daily. So far, so good. The keyboard is functional, works great, but is not tight and high end like. The keyboard gives alot when pressing and could be upgraded. The keys are flat, not as beveled as some may be used to, but again, very functional and has held up well. This 17.3 view-able laptop is loaded with Windows 8, boots extremely fast, and has provided an outstanding tool for my class. It is very light, durable, and we are happy with the speed of the 6gigs of ram. Overall - Extremely happy with another Toshiba product."

"I had been using a hand me down Mac for a year, then the processor died. My husband bought me the Tosh Sat to replace my Mac. Of course it is a different experience (apples and oranges really). My main complaint, believe it or not, is that the surface of the touch pad is so textured it was causing a numb feeling to my fingertip. I solved that problem by trimming\ the protective plastic cover that had been on the touch pad to fit neatly over it. Now my touch pad has a smooth surface and it is easy to clean."

"I bought this laptop because the price was good and I trusted the Toshiba name. Other than being a bit on the heavy side and having poor sound quality, I thought that the laptop would work well for me - the screen had a nice clear image and there was enough memory for my needs. However, the big problem I ran into was too much pre-loaded, unneeded software. This really slowed down the laptop. In addition, the Windows software was constantly updating even though I set it to update only if I give permission. The laptop's performance is very disappointing and I would not recommend it."

"Let's be fair, for the price it's a good enough laptop with nice enough features, but honestly for a little more money you could get laptops way better than this one. The build is cheap (sometimes I feel the keyboard's are going to break apart) and the graphics performance is awful (forget about playing games on this laptop). However, it's good enough for regular, not too pushy use, if you're just going to browse the internet and watch videos or use video chat, etc. then this laptop is good enough, but it sucks for more demanding tasks like playing video games or such. As I've said, for a little more you could buy laptops with better specs, and performance capabilities than this one."

"I bought this laptop to replace an older Toshiba that had given us very good service. This one is quite good, too. The keyboard is large and includes full number pad, making it easier to enter numbers. It is light, lots of memory and storage, and much faster than the one it replaced. The best part was the price. Only one negative, playing music the sound is not good. May be a combination of inexpensive sound card and inexpensive speakers. I was disappointed with the sound, but all in all, this is a good laptop."

"Have this laptop for about a month use it to serf the internet mostly. My wife uses it for facebook and her farmville game. It runs farmville real good, my other laptop was very slow. My son ran minecraft, it ran without any lagging. I added 2 more gegs of memory, up it to 8 gegs and and runs netflix, hulu smoothly with no lagging, I have dsl at 20mbps so anything can run at that speed. Overall it a real good perfromer for someone who just needs to it for serfing the internet and some basic gaming."

"I think that it is just too difficult to use, I have a hard time finding things that should be simple to find such as word pad and things such as picture cropping and printing etc. and every time i use the pad the toolbar pops up? what is that, it is so annoying and i do not know how to fix it, i would rather be able to just click on the start menu and go to whatever i would like to use as far as programs and this difficulty in use makes it very hard for me to be able to do anything on this computer for my business or just to print or type a document- as soon as possible i will be getting rid of this computer and going with something else....anything else actually. I really do not like this windows 8 at all- basically overall this computer is just not what i expected from toshiba and i really wish i had gone a different way."

"My only complaint is that twice now my internet has been disconnected & I can't for the life of me figure out why....it's not my internet service! The internet key on my laptop doesn't make a difference either. I finally somehow got it back on the first time...but the 2nd time I couldn't...& my daughter(who does know about computers)couldn't figure it out either...so she finally turned it off & when turned back on it worked....but that didn't fix it the first time, I tried. Also....the clock & side bar shows up ALL THE TIME when I'm doing other things....not a fan of that either. But overall...I'm happy with Toshiba."

"Easy to use out of the box. Battery lasts long and recharges quickly. Toshiba desktop assistant is helpful. I had trouble with Book Place. Couldn't open the free Windows 8 for Dummies Book, but was able to do it on my old Vista desktop. For the price it is a very nice laptop."

"The "side pop-up" & cursor are way too sensitive, then will often not move. Very frustrating when the cursor happens to be on the right side of the page & activates the side panel, which then won't go away! "love the laptop! and I am a novice. The only issue is learning to use Windows * but once you realize there is a screen for a similar Windows Explorer you are golden. The new tiles do not support everything I need for school, but the tile for Explorer does. Did not like the fact that I had to buy Microsoft Office for the computer separately. So that increases the cost."

"The laptop is pretty convenient, especially for the price. There are however some issue that the laptop has. It tends to freeze from time to time. And the speakers also glitch every now and then. I also don't like the windows 8 that comes pre-installed but that's a thing of itself. Anyway if you put aside all the issues, it is generally a good laptop especially for the price."

My only real concern is with the Mouse Pad. I find it to be far too sensitive. "I have had trouble with the mouse pad from the beginning it just wouldn't move many times. Became stuck and or had to continually fight it. I took it in and there was some downloading work done and it became better but still not always functioning properly. I ended up buying a mouse to use."
