"Worst laptop I've ever had. My mistake for buying sight unseen after good experiences with prior release toshiba product. Long time to boot up, mousepad sticks constantly, IE keeps melting down, windows 8 is inferior and hard to navigate and toshiba customer service stinks...tries to charge you for everything. Never again."

"Just bought this laptop and already I get an insufficient memory error! I don't even have anything loaded on the machine. I shouldn't be getting memory errors. And it offers no solution for the supposed problem. Very disappointed."

"I have had this computer for 3 months. I still use my old one more often because I cannot move around in Windows 8. It is like learning some new language. I have bought books and did classes on utube. What time I have used it the computer seems to do well. Maybe one day I'll use it more."

"The computer is a fairly good quality for the price, the battery is the most lacking part. It gets maybe three hours off the chord, if you're lucky. Aside from that, it runs great, I game with four or five other things running all the time and it handles it well."

"I would happily recmmend this IF it had Windows 7 loaded on it rather than Windows 8. As it is, I will have to spend a bit of money to purchase Windows 7 and get it loaded on this laptop. The machine itaelf is great, the software preloaded is the issue."

"This is a replacement for a lower grade Toshiba, which had a problem with the mouse pad. It was only 90 days old. New one has more memory, but also costs more. I haven't gotten used to the program yet, but I can manage to do most of what I need to do"

"I have had this laptop for about two weeks now and I have not been happy at all with it. It freezes all the time and will have to power cycle it at least once or twice a day. Each time it takes forever to boot. I am not sure if this is a Windows 8 issue, Toshiba issue or both."

"This is our second Satellite- t works fine except the Windows 8 came with no operating instructions. Very hard to learn that way. Also, the mouse pad directly under my right thumb is WAY too sensitive. It causes things on the screen to jump around and even be inadvertently be DELETED"

"I use this laptop mainly to play games and it works quite well for that. It does not lag very much and has never crashed on me, yet. I also really like the layout of the keyboard. Some laptops have small backspace keys, enter keys, etc. and since I rather not have to look whenever I try to press a key, I really enjoy using this laptop. Thank you! :)"

"I purchased my Toshiba Satellite laptop mainly as a back-up computer for my big Asus gaming laptop, while it was being repaired. I have not really put the battery life to the test yet, but all other features seem top notch. It is fast and has plenty of storage space for programs, pics and such. It is light weight.. I wish the placement for the plug-ins for peripherals was a little better and possibly had one more USB, but that would be my only complaint. It came with Windows 8, which I like very much, but only after getting used to it."

Mouse finger pad is often unresponsive for up to 25 seconds
Space bar is too small - when using the space bar I hit the Alt or other keys - I lose a lot of data because of this.
The back space key is not like my other keyboards.
I will return this machine as soon as I can find a high performance machine with Win7."

"This is a nice looking laptop with a nice screen. My only complaint is I can't work my way around the tiles with ease. They get in the way when I am looking for Outlook and word docs, for example. This is my 1st laptop, and my other computer was very old, so it may simply be my lack of experience with a newer system."

"I enjoy this laptop and would recommend this to a friend but I only have 2 issues with it. Number 1 is that the touch pad sometimes freezes up and I can't do anything for 5 minutes, then suddenly it works great. Only 1 time I had to shut the laptop down holding the power button. The other issue is that there isn't a scroll up/down slide option on the touch pad as well which isn't a big deal but I use that a lot when on the Internet. Otherwise everything else is fine, just getting used to Windows 8."

"This was a gift and I don't know that I would have picked it out myself, but I have decided to keep it. I love that it has a keypad and it is relatively lightweight for the size. A real downside is the inability to scroll. It just has the touch pad and I have done a lot to try to get the "wheel" features to work. I'm in the process of uninstalling and reinstalling the software...again. For the price and the fact that I'm not a heavy user I'll put up with it. However, between the scolling issues and Windows 8 I have wanted to pull my hair out a few times."

"I have only had this laptop for a few weeks and it is already giving me more problems then my past 3 year old computer. It has issues staying connected to the internet, Windows 8 was a bad choice for it since it isn't touch screened. It is slower then most computers in it;s price range. The video card has serious issues. The sound is very choppy if you listen from the computer itself. I use expensive studio headphones and even then it is only decent with them. By far it will was a bad purchase and won't even last a year I suggest saving your money for something better."

"Windows 8 is not designed for a non-touch screen. Using the keyboard mouse pad and other mouse devices causes stuff to fly on and off the screen uncontrollably. Very annoying."

"I like the look of this Laptop, with the carbon-fiber look design. It performs well, and is set up like a normal keyboard. It's not Toshiba's fault that Windows 8 is a nightmare to navigate, so that aside, the Laptop itself is a very good unit with lots of memory and speed. I think the battery runs down a little fast (about 2 or so hours), but I read a review that once you charge it and run it down all the way a few times, it will last alot longer."

"The performance of this laptop does not meeting my expectations. When online, the laptops gradually slows down over time and I eventually have to shutdown and reboot the laptop. When turning it on, the NUMLOCK key is illuminated, but when Windows starts to load, it goes out so when I log in, I have to remember to turn the NUMLOCK key on, which is a hassle. The BIOS has no way of always enabling this key which in all other computers I have owned, this feature was always present in the BIOS. There are way too many APPS preloaded on the laptop which I will never use. Toshiba online and phone support has much to be improved. If I buy another laptop, the Toshiba will not be at the top of my list."

"Having Problems, must have got a lemon... I shut it off and the systems appears to shut down but the power light and the wi-fi light stays on. The system also had a charging issue it was plugged into the wall and failed to start charging. It proceeded to run out of power and shut down. It is going to have to go back to Tech Support, wish me luck with that!"

"I hadn't used any other laptop except for HP so I was curious to know what I would think of another brand. First, the postive. It powers up super-fast and the display resolution is really good. The bad is I HATE the keyboard. The keys are FLAT, not raised at all and are not contoured toward the top. It's hard to hit the key you want. Hate it. Maybe I'll get used to it."

"...upgraded an old Toshiba Satellite A215 laptop ( Windows Vista) with an HP laptop with Windows 8...however, I returned the HP with Intel i5 for this Toshiba with Intel i7( HP laptop was hard to log on with constant interruptions by popups/reminders to purchase various products)...only positive about the HP was Beats audio, that's it!!!...this Toshiba with similar options was $100 less and very responsive...completely satisfied with Toshiba laptop although I HATE Windows 8...."

"Basically an average laptop at below average prices. I do experience an aggravating problem just about every day - I try to access the internet and I find I am no longer connected to my Wi-Fi. The Wi-Fi is working fine, other computers and smartphones are on, but my Toshiba say "No Networks Available" in the Wi-Fi status. It runs a troubleshooting program which never finds the problem. I must restart my computer each time this happens, and when it is restarted it automatically connects to my Wi-Fi just fine and I am back in business. But frequent restarting is annoying."

"Replaced old Toshiba with Vista with this laptop. Was ready for upgrade, this unit has the bigger memory and faster processor that I needed. I don't game but use it for business, and personal organization and finance. Still getting used to Windows 8, but the more I use it, the more I like it. Have only owned Toshibas since my first Gateway desktop(bought in store) turned me off to them. I have always gotten my money's worth form Toshiba, and their service is excellent. Also purchased the Protection Plan for this one because I travel so much. (Professional boat Capt. on Miss. River) When I give less than a 5 star in rating it is strictly because I haven't had it long enough to really test it. I like it more each time I use it!"

"I replaced my past Toshiba laptop with a new one after using it for years. I was vacationing in Florida when this happened and I never hesitated to go right out and buy another Toshiba. I feel this laptop is perfect for me...is at a great price...and will do anything that I need to do with it.
I like the keyboard and especially like the l5 inch size screen.
I spend a lot of time on the computer reading emails, facebook, paying bills, etc. and I want a computer that I really can handle and yet afford.
I would highly recommend this model Tashiba to anyone."

screen brightness adjustment is real hazzle and there is no manual control, it goes to auto mode and gets more brighter automatically.
AMD A6 is somewhat slower and not satified with the performance.

"too many things "hidden" --- to much "stuff" unusable ----
keeps freezing up --- cannot download the Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 that was promised --- keeps trying to download updates but cannot ever complete the job.
Have to remove the battery to clear the garbage. NOT VERY HAPPY. Lots of $$$ for bad performance."

"This windows 2008 computer is not user friendly with the 2007 home school online system. I was assured at time of purchase it would work together. But it cause freeze ups, lost work, some programs will not run at all so our old 2007 vaio has to be used like musical chairs between the special needs children I am working with. This creates a extra hard ship. As I purchased these so each child would have a computer. I heard on the radio that 2008 windows was a flop. I am living this problematic system everyday. Had I known, I would have never bought new laptops for the children."

"I really like the performance of this laptop. It is lightning fast and multitasks really well. The design is really sleek and elegant. I am happy with the number and types of ports it has; especially the HDMI port. My only complaint is with the key board. This keyboard seems flimsy and the entire keyboard "flexes" up and down when you hit a key. I have two other Toshiba laptops and the keyboards on those are far superior to this keyboard. Toshiba should revert back to the older style keyboards. Other than that, I really like this unit."

"I've had this laptop for about two months now. I had another Toshiba that was about 10 years old, it was just time for a new one. I didn't want to spend a lot , but wanted a quality product, and this one is great for the value!!! I use it for searching the web , and paying bills , and you tube, kind of basic usage. The battery holds up good. The only thing I have to get used to is windows 8 features. So far, so good!!!"

"I love this laptop except for three problems. The first problem is the design of the cd/dvd drive button. Very hard to eject or open the tray because the button is really recessed too much. My second problem is with the cd/dvd drive is very loud and flimsy feeling while being used. My last problem is with the cooling fan which has a high shrill sound when operating. The cooling fan goes on and off very frequently."

"The overall function is fine and the computer works well but there are some shortcomings, the keyboard needs to be hammered on for it to work with any kind of accuracy, I am an excellent typist and letters just don't appear without what I believe to be at least twice the pressure than any other keyboard I use. The screen is very sharp at first but after a short time seems to dull around the edges."

"For the money, you'll be hard pressed to find a sweeter combination of processing power, memory, and storage. With the possible exception of the function key setup (where the "feature" is enabled primarily, requiring you to hit the Fn button to active a regular F5/F11/etc), I can't think of a thing I'd change. This laptop is replacing a decade old workhorse, and so far I have no regrets at all over the purchase."

"I still love my desk top computer a lot more. It is more comfortable, easier to work with, and isn't extremely sensitive. I do not like that if I have my fingers lightly resting on the mouse pad, all of a sudden the computer takes me to different screens, and sites. And I barely even touched it. I also would like it better if it came with an instruction manual. I don't like having to search all over the internet to find directions on how to use it. I do like that I can take it anywhere in the house. And I do like the speed and memory capacity of it compared to our 6 year old plus computer. It's a Dell desk top."

"I got this new laptop with windows8. I tried to connect to the internet. The help menu was of no use because it had to have an internet connection to help me. A catch 22 situation. Next thing was since I couldn't get any help from the help menu, I could not propely turn the computer off. Another catch 22 situation. When I finally did get on line 3 days later the help menu sent me to youtube and to a topic I wasn't looking for. Why do these computers have such a large hard drive if the help section is online? Wouldn't it make sense to install that information there where a new user to their product has instant access to it. I am filling out this review from my old window 7 computer since I really hate the windows 8 operating system on the new one. This is the 6th operating system I am having to learn starting with DOS 3.1. If I buy a new car I don't have to learn to drive all over again! It seems they are trying to make computers run like the latest phone on the market."

"This is my second Toshiba Laptop, I purchased this based on the reliability of my first one. And I have not been disappointed. Toshiba even sent a users manual which I don't see much of anymore. "The price was the main reason I bought it, but I like the easy usability of it. I was a little leary of Windows 8 when I bought it, but the more I use it, the better I'm getting at it. It has a perfect sized screen, and nice sized keys.
The only downside is that I have to strike the keys right on the middle or it doesn't read it. That makes for a lot of error corrections."

"Coming from MS XP Professional, System 8 is not the way I work and obviously designed for a touch sensitive screen which my lap top does not have nor did I want it. I also am a Mac user and the user interface is a far cry from Lion.
I continue to have issues with the mouse pad which will freeze randomly.....had the system accessed remotely by Geek Squad tech support and they cleaned a few things up but did not find anything specific. It is perturbing to loose control of the mouse pad in the middle of work. It appears as though something is running in the background consuming the CPU.......processes and applications running were reviewed with nothing identified. Tech support completed the analysis and I said I'd keep an eye on it. If this continues, I have a serious issue with the system. It appears to be continuing. Any help appreciated."

"Overall I highly recommend this laptop. The cooling system is efficient and keeps the laptop from overheating. The keyboard buttons are easy to press and read even in low light. The placement of the accessory plugins is very nice since you have them in easily accessable areas. The only wish I have is that the mouse be moved 2 inches to the right so that when playing a game or typing my left hand thumb does not hit the mouse while I am typing."

"It is really a good brand and a good product. I must say eventhough Toshiba has great laptops, that last and work just fine, there are other brands in the market making the same quality laptops with lower prices, like Samsung.
When I bought this laptop I was torn between this one and a Samsung one. Both laptops had almost the same features and memory capacity..Still I chose Toshiba, because I trust you guys....
But I'm noticing many other people in my region buying Samsung, and the thing is they actually perform the same way as a Toshiba or sometimes even better, so I guess my main advice is that, you should reduce a little your price, or make the price worth for the product .

"I have used Toshiba computers since the late 80's and this is my first disappointment. I had trouble right out of the box and it just got worse. I hope it was a fluke because I really like the brand. This is my fifth toshiba laptop and the first one to give me any problems before it was at least 4 years old. I no longer have the laptop. I returned it and will just have to get by till I feel I can get one without all the bugs."

"Machine loads fairly quickly and keyboard is OK except for the mini arrow keys, hard to hit with big fingers. I like the numeric keypad. Some keystrokes need to be hit with some pressure. So far I am please with the price/performance. Windows 8 is another challenge altogether and not friendly to this old former accountant."

"This computer has been running steady for a month. Aside from adapting to Windows 8 the computer has impressed me. I needed a casual laptop for the summer and this fits the bill.
Con: Plastic on bottom of case seems flimsy to me."

"Love the laptop, but I agree with the other review it's so not built for music, speakers seem to lag and fluctuate way to much! One minute loud next minute muffled, I even adjusted the SRS HD sound and doesn't help even if you turn the SRS off!! But other than that the computer has been good! Fast and all that!!"

"Have owned this one for a few months, was an upgrade from an old HP Compaq presario c700, really old Compaq (dual core 1.6, 2G ram) I got the Satellite because it has reasonable specs for a moderate price so i could use it as a gaming/ media computer, however despite it being quick and great with gaming, its been really let down by its sound software/hardware.. that "SRS sound enhancement" they designed to create dynamic realistic premium sound - really only just causes the sound to fluctuate between quiet, and eardrum piercingly loud depending on the tempo of each part of the song currently playing, which just makes you feel physically queasy trying to listen to it..
and further more it really lacks in full sound (all treble no bass) Have even tried disabling SRS and manually adjusting the sound to little effect, just have to search web discussions about the sound quality of these models to know its a widespread opinion of the owners trying to find solutions to the issue.
It's a great computer in terms of hardware and capability and so far iv'e never had an issue with gaming performance, but when it comes to sound quality, my old Compaq (which wasn't exactly high spec when new!) is far better for playing music on... how technology has improved over the years!?"

"I got this laptop with the A10 processor so I could do some gaming on it. The laptop meets recommended settings but games perform POORLY because of the severely outdated drivers!!! Toshiba will not allow you to install the drivers from AMD and users will have to wait for the Toshiba release the drivers that get updated maybe every 3 years."

"Generally L850D-BT2N22 it is a good laptop, but it is missing keyboard backlight-- something I did not realize when I was ordering. A tech support spent 5 minutes tryng to figure out if this model has backlight. I had to install a table lamp, without which it was difficult to use the keyboard."
