"I'll admit it. I owned a Toshiba laptop many years ago which suffered from the "shutdown randomly due to overheat protection." The problem was, my laptop was never actually hot and the fans were working fine. I switched to Dell laptops after that having used them at work without fail. The L875 was the first Toshiba laptop I considered since then, and I'm glad I decided to purchase this laptop which has been working beautifully since I purchased it. Although I thought that the "low" resolution of the panel combined with its very large 17.3" footprint would hamper use of software development tools, I'm pleased with the balance of pixels and size. The pixels are still small enough to be imperceptible and gives enough screen real estate for all my applications. Videos scale perfectly to its true 16:9 aspect ratio. The Core i3 processor is no slouch for normal day to day tasks. It is far more powerful than anyone who just needs a web browser and email laptop. The included Toshiba eco utility lets me know how much the laptop is using - with 80% brightness, it's about 18W. That's a fuel-sipper. The i3 has integrated graphics in the processor. Although serious gamers will have a problem with this, the majority of us will be more than satisfied with Intel's video - including driving an HDMI output. Thank you, Toshiba, for included two USB 3.0 ports on this laptop and reminding us that it has been around for years now and should be standard. 640GB hard drive in a laptop. Even with all the solid state offerings out there, a person like me appreciates the additional space that comes in an affordable package. For those enthusiasts that need something larger, Toshiba made it extremely simple to replace the hard drive with something else. That's something to be applauded. 802.11n appears to be limited to single channel (max 150Mbps). Adequate for a laptop, I suppose, but having a dual channel to pair up with my router would be nice. The spacing on the full sized "chiclet" keyboard may throw off some. The keys seem to be spaced further than a desktop keyboard, but I've adapted without issue. Having a number pad is excellent. The speakers are placed above the keyboard, so sounds are not muffled (when placed in the front of the laptop like some competitors). The sound is clear, loud, and plenty sufficient to allow watching movies at a comfortable distance. The bezel around the trackpad can take some getting used to. Synaptics allows virtual scrolling up and down by swiping the right side of the trackpad. I end up swiping up and down on the bezel all the time, but I'm getting used to it. MY BIGGEST GRIPE ABOUT THE LAPTOP is a fairly simple one. There is no hard drive activity light. I'd love a BIOS firmware update that would allow you to toggle the behavior of the WiFi LED to allow indication of hard drive activity. This simple oversight will make you wonder if your application is responsive or frozen. I would score this a perfect five stars for the LED issue to be addressed, because it's the thing I miss the most using this laptop each and every day. Otherwise, you'll be pleased with the form factor and lightweight form of this laptop. I'm hoping that the random "power outages" of years past are gone with Toshiba's latest designs."

"Once this laptap was set up and synced with my desktop, this machine has been a breeze to use. I carried it with me to some professional meetings, and had no problem. I am more than brand new at using it, but wouldn't say I am I am proficient...I get by with a little help from others."

"I have owned a number of laptops over the years and have also had laptops through my work. I can say hands down, that this Toshiba is the best that I have used so far. It is well made, robust, super fast and looks good. I use it all day everyday and with the clear screen and great speed, I get things done quickly and efficiently. LOVE IT!!!!"

"I wanted a large screen laptop in order to watch movies and TV shows. This computer has great resolution and the sound is good. The only thing I don't like is the short battery life but since I use it mostly at home I just plug it in."

"This laptop is a little slow on start-up. I do not like the position of the touch pad. It is to far to the left,. I have to be careful because I have a tendancy to Right-click to often. The keyboard is very good, Ilike the size of the numbers & letters. The screen is very good and speed is good once it gets started."

"Overall a good value but there are some issues with the keyboard design. The keys are a flat style that sometimes don't register when not fully pressed. The space bar is particularly problematic and words tend to runtogether when you attempt to type with speed. This has become less of a problem since I discovered that if you push the space bar in the center it seems to work more consistently."

"I bought this one as a replacement for a Dell XPS 1730 that I bought a few years ago..and that crashed 2 times. This is a less expensive laptop for me now and so far so good. There are a few things I miss, but for the price it's good."

"The Satellite L875 laptop is just great but needs a keyboard that lights up and backlit keys and built-in mouse pad like the units from Alienware. Like the keys letters are yellow and the backlit keyboard etc. is blue."
