"For those of us who just like to use computers this new Windows 8 is a disaster! If may have features that computer junkies will obcess over, but for us who just "use" a computer, we really don't want to learn a wholly new way of doing stuff. Had I known that Windows 8 was like advanced calculus without a text book, I would not have bought this Toshiba. I think the Toshiba product is sturdy and reliable, but --why are trying to get me to use a big Toshiba web site? Why should I?

"I bought a Toshiba laptop, recently. It did not work correctly and I had to return it. I then bought the same model of Toshiba, and that one is not working correctly either! I am sooooo disappointed!!!"

"An excellent laptop for the value. Large screen with great keyboard feel; fast AMD cpu ! Only point that could be better is regarding Windows 8 (hopefully version 8.1 this autumn will remedy various issues especially the "log in" issue --if your wireless connection is interrupted, you need to use a different computer to go to Microsoft and reset yourMicrosoft password so that you can then log on to your Windows-8 laptop [not Toshiba's fault]."

"i only kept the computer for less than 14 days. I rate the computer extremely high - no knocks on Toshiba. The sad part of the deal was Windows 8. The software is nothing but madness for a user brought up thru the ranks on typical window operating systems. Windows 2000, Windows NT, Windows XP, Windows 7 were user friendly, typically same format type of softwares. Moving from origianl to upgrades over the years has been seamless. (Except Windows Vista) I don;t appreciate anything that Windows 8 offers. I am not interested in an Apps and cell phone type of software on my computer, which is what Windows 8 has become. I returned my computer to the store and within a week I purchased a brand new ASUS with Windows 7 software. It is a beauty of a computer and I am running smooth and effortless. Windows will not convert everyone, believe me."

"I do not like the fact there is no start button,no clock, windows 8 is too advanced for most of the programs i like,no office programs came installed. Games that require java( even though it comes installed on the laptop)tell you you need to download it then when you download java it still doesnt work. too many bugs you should of worked thte bugs out first before selling this product on the market. I keep my old laptop and use it more than I do the new one that I just bought,"

"It took me some getting use to. I do like it and think I will become a greater fan as I continue to use it. I miss being able to move around a page by dragging my finger on the keypad and will look at that the next time I buy a laptop. The performance is great on my laptop."

"For the money the laptop seems to work ok but it has a few glitches so far that I hope will go away. Software seems to lock up at times but it could be the new Windows 8. Laptop itself seems durable. I replaced an HP that fell apart. All my other Toshiba's for the family have been good so I figured why not try one for work. Keyboard is a little hard to get use to though, hard to hit keys."

"it's a nice computer, but I miss the menu in the corner, i miss the free solitaire and spider solitaire games for something to do while watching tv or on the phone. i don't understand why anyone thinks all these tiles are better than the icons. The icons and start menu were easier to use and had been around so long that it was easy for anyone to use them. This tile business is frustrating and unnecessarily complicated compared to the old system. It took me a week to figure out how to shut down the computer properly."

"The laptop has Windows 8 installed, making it extremely difficult to use. That has taken a great deal of fun out of use as well as wasting a great deal of time attempting to figure out how to use the laptop and programs. "I am very disappointed in my new laptop. I had to return the first one because it didn't work. Now the second one has problems with some of the features. I have owned another laptop by Toshiba and loved it, that is why I bought this one. I do not know if it is your laptop or Windows 8 that is the problem but I would not recommend anyone else buying this computer. "Easy to manage all the programs and reliable system, I am satisfy with my purchase! I replace an HP laptop and I was not fully convince about toshiba since I had never had one before, but I found in a short period of time that the system was better and it allow me to manage both my business and personal life. "This is my second Toshiba laptop as my first one was great also. The only reason I replaced it was it did not survive a glass on wine being poured on it! "Bought this computer at an office supply store, with a two week return policy. From the start the usb 3.0 ports would only work maybe half of the time. Always getting error, can not display the page, and not compatible with your operating system messages.Soon it would not wake up from sleep without restarting, and more error messages.
I am not sure whether this was a hardware or software problem, but suspect software. Program features I use have been stripped out of windows 8. Overall I really dislike windows 8. Returned it to the store after 4 very frustrating days.
I have a nearly 5 year old Toshiba laptop that has been great, and love it.
I have ordered a Toshiba custom built laptop with windows 7 and expect it to be much, much better. We shall see.
Overall I would recommend Toshiba, but I think windows 8 is a disaster.
If you want a windows 7 computer , act soon.

"I found this laptop to be very fast with a nice sized clear screen for viewing. It has lots of ports for flexibility and the hard drive can handle my needs for a very long time.
I was not too pleased with Windows 8, but using the desktop screen lets it look a lot like previous versions.
It is an excellent laptop and reasonably priced, too!"

"Have owned Toshiba laptops before and was impressed with the quality and life of the computer. Have tried many others and the quality was not there spent much of their life in repair shop. Have had them replaced up to 3 times while under warranty. This one is a new operating system windows 8 still trying to figure out if windows is the problem or if its the computer. It has a mind of its own sometimes and its driving me nuts."

"This is my second Toshiba Laptop and this Toshiba works extremely well. It is fast and has plenty of memory 6 GB and the Hard Drive 640 GB is very ample. I only wish Windows 7 would have been offered without having to order it at a premium price. Windows 8 is terrible and full of advertising. I don't know why Toshiba went along with Microsoft on Windows 8 and I don't know what Microsoft was thinking when they designed Windows 8. Trying to copy Apple I suppose. My first Toshiba is 15 years old with a 11 inch screen and still going strong. I gave it to my Grandkids to learn on."

"This is my first laptop. I had been using a desk top that was 8 years old, When it died I started looking for a new one. I began to think about a laptop instead and as I checked them out I picked the Toshiba because I believe that it gave me the best value. It's a great computer, didn't take me long to get use to it. I love it. I take it with me when I travel, It's internet ready, the battery is only good for 3 hrs but I have learned to work around that."

"If this didn't come pre-loaded with Windows 8, it might have gotten a higher rating; but I think this is Microsoft's worst yet
As to the laptop itself. It's quick and responsive and other than two problems, it's been 'almost' issue free.
Those two problems yet unresolved involve the sensitivity (or lack thereof) of the touch pad, plus the print screen seems to be non-functional. Um...and I even followed the instructions."

I travel a lot with business and have never been able to take the game with me on the road, But with the speed, incredible graphics and mobility of my Toshiba I can do just that. My daughter plays with me now. When she comes to visit she uses the Toshiba and I use my desktop and we can play in the same room.. Thanks for making an affordable gaming machine!"

"I had no tech help just took it from staples plugged it
in and away I went took all the prompts to register and get the machine up and running ,a little trouble shutting down with the windows 8 but went on line to get the shut down procedure . Start up was a little challenge at first because my old computer I had to hold the start button for so long ,doing that on the new computer it booted up and shut down right away"

This one I am not crazy about.. "My new laptop works OK.... starts up quick...a little tough to get around with the new windows 8 system but that's the user not the computer!!!
I had to push the casing back together and the keyboard bends when you type on the keys!!!!It runs multiple applications and its quite a powerful machine for the price i paid.....I think if the casing and keyboard were fixed or given a little more thought in design it would be a great machine"

"This is a very nice computer. The only thing I do not like about it is the keyboard. I have typed for years and these keys are so shallow that I have trouble with them. "The only real cavett is that this Laptop needs to have a faster boot time, replace the 5400 Rpm with a SSD of 180 to 250 gigs. And have a 500 gig 7200 HD as an option or part of the base unit, with 8 gig of ram.

"I like the laptop for the most part. The battery life is shorter than my last laptop but I usually don't need extended amounts of time on the battery alone. The touch pad is not as sensitive as I would like and the texture on it makes my finger stick to it rather than slide smoothly. There is also the front edge where the pieces of the body of the laptop meet that are not smooth. When typing the edge digs into your arms. Would be nicer if the edge was smooth. The performance is good for the speed and for graphics."

"I would give this laptop an A+ if these 2 issues were fixed. 1. the "2 finger" scroll feature on the mouse pad is horrible, 2. the lights on the front right are very bright and cannot be turned down/off. "I have had 2 desktops before this. I recommended a Toshiba laptop to a friend who was looking at one based on the features and price point he was looking at. I was very impressed when I saw that laptop, so when this model came up I was in for sure. Both are satellite laptops and very impressive. I did not want some tiny little thing that your hands could barely work on. It is a 17.3 inch screen, monster and truthfully it will only leave the desk on occasion. Trust me in a carpenters world this is small and very portable. Truthfully my only complaint is Windows 8 but that's just me too, having had XP for 10 years I have become a bit spoiled. The system operation is great just getting used to how it all functions."

"I have had a great time with the laptop. This is my first laptop and was confused about what would be a good one. Asked many friends and researched a lot of different models. The battery life is very good, the screen crisp and clear and large (17.3) so I can see it well. It has performed to every expectation I asked. Had initial trouble. The power cord/transformer did not work and I was unable to charge the laptop. I returned it to the store and they replaced it from another new laptop. I hope it was just an isolated incident. But overall it works well."

"This is a great all-around laptop, whether the owner is a first-time laptop user, or a more 'experienced' owner needing a good, solid laptop for what they are doing. The only 2 'negatives' I can think of: 1) it comes pre-loaded with a little too much 'fluff' programming, and 2) it needs a backlit keyboard. Even with those 2 negatives, this is a great laptop with many nice features and very nice expandability and upgradability. And you can't argue with the price or the manufacturer. While shopping for a new laptop, the Toshiba website folks were extremely helpful and knowedgeable, and they made choosing Toshiba a very easy and informed decision. This is my first Toshiba, and I look for ward to being a repeat customer in the future !!"

"My new Toshiba laptop outperforms the replaced unit (6 Yrs old) as I would expect. The serrated surface mouse pad is sometimes difficult to activate compared to the traditional smoother types as I have some loss of tactile sensation in my "mouse finger". Windows 8 leaves a lot to be desired (not Toshiba's fault of course) and appears to be more oriented towards tablets and touchscreen gear. It's a pain for laptops and offers little advantage if any. All in all the laptop is very fast, reasonably easy to navigate (even for us "seniors") and is a very good value. I have no serious complaints!"

"As of right now, I have had this laptop for 4 days. FOUR! After 1 day of having this computer, I had the Blue Screen of Death with error DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION. Since then, have had the BSOD 7 times. Went to restore to factory settings to maybe fix any driver issues, and its been 3 and a half hours, and its at 33% on the restore. Sorry, but this is pretty poor. Restore should take 1-2 hours, no more than that. Taking this thing back, and I'm PRAYING I can get a diff laptop from a different brand. Oh and the keyboard is very very weird. Especially the arrow keys."

"Now I know why the Toshiba was on sale. It had windows 8 installed on the computer without a touch screen. Absolutely a horror show trying to use it with a finger mouse. If Toshiba continues to offer their products this way they should also offer an option to use windows 7. I also found the start page as unnecessary and much prefer a desktop as a start page so a user can easily opt for icons/apps to apply as they wish."

"I've found I don't care for Windows 8 but that may be based upon the performance of this laptop. I was shocked that I couldn't view multiple windows simultaneously and I was very disappointed at how slow this laptop processes. This is my 4th Toshiba in maybe 15 years. "This is my first laptop, getting used to it is easy. still working with "Windows 8" but getting used to it. The most disapointing thing about the Toshiba laptop is the dvd tray. It seems weak and fragile, cheap is a fair discription. I purchased a wireless mouse that helped me navigate. I am not good with a key board. My son is and he says this laptop is very smooth,he likes it a lot,but agreed with me about the dvd tray. Its a large and heavy laptop so not realy portable,but in my case it stays in the house anyway."

"This is a very nice laptop for the price. It's fast, looks very nice, and has a good keyboard feel. My only problem with the computer itself is that the button to open the cd/dvd door is a little hard to find. The biggest problem that I have is with Windows8. I couldn't successfully install TurboTax (locked up during installation. Then when it seemed that it had installed, it locked up while entering information). Also was unable to submit homework for an online class and was not able to make payment for an online purchase. In all three cases, I had to go back to my old laptop to complete the tasks. There seems to be an incompatibility issue when dealing with businesses or schools that are still using earlier versions of Windows."

"Toshiba used to be one of my favorite, most trusted, most reliable brands to reach out to. It doesn't seem to be the case anymore, unfortunately.
I originally purchased my laptop on February 16th, 2013. Let's just say it was a lemon. The left shift key was sticking, the drive had errors that needed correcting, and critical error displayed when trying to bring out of hibernate. I tried a factory reset. Same issue. I had only used it a handful of times.
Needless to say I got it replaced. The new one doesn't have the sticky shift key, but applications are still hanging and the entire computer becomes unresponsive for a few seconds before catching up with itself. Maybe it can't handle Windows 8, or maybe Windows 8 isn't ready yet. Or the store I bought it from just got a bad batch. Either way, I'm not liking it and will never recommend Toshiba to anyone as long as I live. Also, when I'm typing, all the characters don't show up. anyways, about time to say a few good things.
Windows 8 has some pretty cool features and the Laptop itself seems very modern when it comes to looks, the webcam resolution could use some help, but it does the job. I like that it has a built in PC monitoring program, but i dont like seeing errors when I just bought it."

"This laptop would be better suited for surfing and minimal posting due to the akward keys on the keyboard. They are large, flat and not easy to type on for word processing. "My main complaint is the keyboard and placement of keys. Gaps between keys is greater than previous model computers and the keys are not as sensitive as they should be; therefore, needing a lot of pressure to press and type. When you have pressed a key and you know you have, you look at what you have typed and it is not there. There needs to be an improvement on the keyboard. It is a major turnoff in the product."

"This is my second Satellite laptop. Bought my first in 2003 and didn't have any major issues. The construction is not very strong, but as long as I don't go mountain climbing with it, it should be just fine. I do like the light weight. After uninstalling bloatware and finding a source for latest ATI drivers I'm completely satisfied with this PC's performance a features.
Bluetooth would have been nice ... a feature found on other similarly priced units. The screen size/brightness all impressive. I chose this model or an Intel due to the graphics performance. Not a gamer, but feel the Aero performance is superior to Intel 4000."

"I'm dissapointed that there's No short written tutorial regarding the most simple of functions regarding Windows 8, How to correctly turn off the laptop, how to adjust the pad speed, etc. I could go on and on. I do like the laptop for its other features, but having never owned one before, it's a frustrating struggle to learn on my own, since everyone I know has either a MAC, or other windows version.I also seem to have to charge the battery every day, or every few hours, which ever comes first."

"Very pleased with this laptop. I was hesitant to get Windows 8 without a tablet screen but I found the new OS easy to adopt even with just a mouse. The RAM is sufficient for my needs. I stream videos and do casual gaming. I also run more advanced business software and is processes just fine. Keyboard and touch pad have a nice feel. Love the huge screen. Despite being 17.3", if feels as light as my old 13" laptop. Battery life is terrible but that's not the objective with these kinds of laptops."

"While I am OK with the computer speedwise, I really dislike this keyboard. The spacebar is especially odious. I have to just really pound on the spacebar to get it to function. The other thing is the Synaptics pointing device that randomly changes the size of the screen when I hold the left mouse button and touch the mouse pad. I think the keyboard needs replacement and the mouse pad software reloaded."

"The laptop itself works fine. I gave battery life 3 stars because I had to give it something and I have never used it, so far. One thing I particularly like is the improved functioning of the lid compared with my previous laptop. I also have a love/hate relationship with Windows 8. There are some features of it that are fine. There are some features that are stupid and I wish I had Vista back."

"1. System locks frequently.
2. Restart would not work properly. System would not restart. Had to reinstall system to original configuration after less than a month.
3.. I would not recommend a buy."

"This laptop performs well, the screen is great and the construction is fine. I had to use some instructional videos to understand some of the touch pad and key board figures as well as Windows 8. I am not really sure what the big deal is with Windows 8 other than some large icons; personally I think navigating all the "hidden" side and task bar icons is a waste -- I pretty much just use the desktop that resembles Windows 7."

"I'm still tryig to download the Windows 8 for dummies book. Can't seem to get it. Have to put in the password. It's a real pain. I've been happy with my other Toshibas, but this one has been a real pain. You put out a bad batch, and I got them."

"Excellent Laptop coupled with Windows 8 makes a great combination. It is fast and is my 2nd Toshiba Satellite. Only negative is the speakers/sound are OK at best. The previous Satellite had Harman Kardon speakers which were wonderful and put out a full rich sound. Perhaps I was spoiled. The 17 inch screen makes a big difference, very resolution."

"I am a die-hard Toshiba fan, and if I had my way, everything I owned that is tech-related in my house, and at the office, would be made by Toshiba.
The Updated version of Windows however, makes constant updates, and slows the performance of the computer down, and interrupts my work day. So, I'm not sure if I like it as much as the "previous version."

"If you are looking for a fast, big laptop this is the one for you! It is very fast and reliable and comes with a good price. The keyboard is perfect and there are two buttons to control the sound instead of having to click on the sound button on the screen you can easily control the sound from the keyboard. I have gone for 5 hours without having to charge the battery. Great computer."

"I have always trusted Toshiba, my last laptop a Toshiba P25-S526 was incredibly reliable, so after 8 yrs of service, I thought it was time to upgrade, so of course I was going to continue with a brand that I know and trust. This machine is excellent value for money, its features are phenomenal, the processor speed, the hard drive size and memory, is exactly what I wanted on a new system. I need to get accustom to the OS, but Windows 8 will be learnt. Peeps, I would recommend this laptop, it's features is worth the price tag....thanks Toshiba!!"

"Just purchased the L875D-S7332 Toshiba unit. My first Toshiba unit was S205-S9800 Satellite Lab top that had the Harman/Kardon speakers that I have used for the last 6 years. It’s great. Upgraded it to Win 7 with no problems and still working fine. Thought I would upgrade to a newer faster unit so I purchased the L875D. First thing I notice while installing programs is you must lift up the computer to find the button to eject the CD drive. The unit sits so close to the table top my finger won’t go under the side to feel the eject button. Learning Win 8 is like any other windows, read from others experiences and then just play with it and learn as you go. First thing I did was add the start button that wasn’t hard! It gave me back the old Win 7 look that I liked and made working with windows better. This unit works fast and so far loading programs and download updates have not been a problem. Played my first CD and the speakers were unsatisfactory. Just not the quality I was use to or wanted. Just played a DVD and it does a great job."
