"I agree with all the touchpad issues. This is my first Toshiba and I like it quite well. My biggest concern is that the power source tends to go on and off intermittenly - like the plug into the unit is not snug. Some days I have no problems, other days it takes me a half hour to keep the power consistent. I love the keyboard and the number pad is nice."

"This is the second Toshiba Laptop I have owned in 8 years. They are real work horses. I Give mine a work out recording and mixing music.This newest one has only one querk and that is where the CD player is. I find myself opening it almost everytime I pick up the laptop. But overall, I would recomend this to a friend."

"I bought this laptop four months ago and I´m very happy with it. This laptop is a great option if you are looking a good processor for a low price. Also, I like the laptop aluminum finish. I only dislike the keyboard, is not bad but could be softer. Also, the battery life could be longer, in my case using wi-fi and two programs I average three hours with a full charge."

"I like the overall look of the laptop, the weight and the speed of the applications. I am not impressed with the battery life - it was advertised as up to 5 hours and I have never gotten more than 2.5. There are also issues with it using a lot of battery in sleep mode and it won't always recharge in sleep mode. Had I known these things before I bought it, I probably would have picked a different model."

"Over good laptop so far. Putting the mouse buttons on the touch pad was not a good idea. Go and click a file and the mouse arrow moves off your target if not careful. Touch pad seems overly sensitive. For example, when using the touch pad to double click an item the arrow on the screen jumps off the item if not very careful. Other than the touch pad issues everything seems good"

"I have been using this laptop for about a month. I have not had any problems with it and I hope it continues that way. It seems the battery lasts almost for ever without power source, for now. The vent is on the side so it is always cool on your body. The sound quality is very good.
The touch pad is a bit stiff so you will need a mouse. You literarily have to bang the touch pad before it responds. Other that than it is a nice laptop. I like the big screen size."

"This is not my first laptop from Toshiba. I typically buy myself a new one every other year. I upgrade for the speed and storage. My old ones are passed onto my daughters who love them and still they don't have any issues.
This one has WiDi which I thought I wouldn't use but find it handy.
Can't wait till Toshiba starts building them with 1 TB solid state drives.
Buy Toshiba....you won't regret it. I've been satisfied for over 10 years with Toshiba products."

"This is not the first time I will be using a Toshiba notebook and they have never disappointed me.
Apart from been cheap, the notebook is fast with lots of memory to place with.
I run two virtual PCs simultaneously on the notebook, you wouldn’t even notice any speed degradation."

"This Toshiba Satellite P855-S5200 has won me over for its excellent performance-size-durability combination, after nearly 30 years of exclusive use of Apple or Dell computers. The Intel Core I7 processor combined with 8MB DDR3-1600 Ram make it super responsive and fast, and the Etched Aluminum Body make it extra durable for daily multiple location use. I would buy it all over again even with a couple of features needing improvement of an unintentionally opening media bay and difficult to use track pad buttons which hopefully can be tweaked in future models. A wireless mouse (planned to use one anyway) instantly resolves one issue, and avoiding the media bay button easily resolves the other. Finally a laptop that can replace my desktop and keep my data on one great computer that I am very happy with."

"If you want to run Ubuntu 10.10 on this machine forget it or you'll find you are wasting your time. Ubuntu doesn't have drivers for the sound or wifi cards and it really tough and time consuming getting this. Also the touch pad is terrible with Ubuntu 10.10. The arrow jumps all over the place and it doesn't drag."

"The right mouse botton on the touchpad is intermittent on both the new P855-S5200s I recently purchased. I firmly believe its a Synpatics-Toshiba driver issue. No issues when I uninstalled the Synpatics driver; came back when I reinstalled the driver. I have no issues when I use my external Logitech mouse.
I'd otherwise rate the P855 "Excellent"!!!!!"

"I use this for games, work, downloading, music, video...pretty much everything. I went with the advice of other reviewers and got a wireless mouse as touchpads are not really my thing...old dog, new tricks kind of deal. I have had no problems with this machine at all and it tends to be left on and running various apps days at a time."

within the first week of having it there were several pixels that went bad and stay white
the keyboard could really have a better layout

the processor is good but could work better * my guess it will run alot better with windows 8 on it so i reccomend if you just bought yours with windows 7 upgrade it for the 20 dollars it takes cause i shure will"

"I needed a new laptop for training purposes. This computer fits the bill. It runs my power point presentations great. I like the screen size and the keyboard. With a wireless mouse and a wireless slide clicker this thing makes my presentations look fantastic.
Even slides with vid clips in them play great. If you're a gamer this laptop isn't for you. But if you're a serious student or need one for on the go office work or presentations this will meet your needs with MS Office loaded into it. I thought the price was a pretty good deal for eveything it has since I caught it on sale at the big box store. I bought the Toshiba because they're pretty tough, love the all metal casing on this thing. My old toshiba went to many a major fire in Calif. on overhead assignments with me and like the old ad," took a licking and kept on ticking.""

"I have only had this computer for about 3 weeks. I really like the way I can bring up pictures from our camera. It is much better than the last computer we had. I had a little trouble getting it to work with our wireless printer, but that has been resolved and now works just fine. If it keeps on working, like it is now, we will be very happy with it."

"The PC runs very hot during normal operation although this on a well ventilated area, video playback online with many pauses, keyboard disign can be improved.
Very good audio system, Excelent HD capacity, processor and screen size.
The better things of this equipments is the HD capacity for storage files.
The bad thing about this PC is that it gets very hot on the right side of the keyboard"

"I got this laptop for college to replace my old HP Pavillion I bought 3 years ago. I liked them but the newer models had flare screens which made me decide to buy 1 without flare. This toshiba seemed to have a best specs and price wasn't bad so I went ahead and bought it. It has a i7 processor so It's suppose to go super fast, and the first day I got it it turns on in less than half a minute, but once you install just a handful of devices, its start time increases. Also it tends to freeze sometimes, which shouldn't be happening when I barely have anything on this computer. It's frozen when I've just had itunes and google chrome open. After first few days webcam stopped working as well. Honestly, the only difference between this computer and my old hp pavillion that is 3 years old is the newer keyboard and non glare screen. In terms of performance, its better but by barely anything. I wouldn't exactly recommend someone to get this computer, but if someone were to get it I wouldn't really bash on it either, no computer is perfect and there are others that are much worse."

"I had a Toshiba that was like 3 years old and I had bought RAM upgrade, but the max RAM it could have was 4GB, the processor was i3 and the graphics card was off the chart low. When I jumped from that to this... It felt like a $1,000 laptop because its so fast, has 8GB RAM! And 750GB hardrive space, which Is good for me because my other computer was full and I didn't have much on it. This laptop Should cost over $900 because of its performance for me."

"Pros: Number cruncher, very good quality speakers (a little too bassy; can be corrected with Realtek's SW equalizer, but this may drain your battery), quick boot, good battery life (4-5 hours if Toshiba gave you a healthy battery)
Cons: The keyboard is comfortable, sure. But if you press on a corner of a key, or press a key right in the center for too short a second, even though you can feel the key push in and you can hear the click in resonse, it does NOT get registered. This is -->incredibly<-- annoying. The arrow keys are also scrunched together, but at least you can get used to that. If you can demo this laptop in a store, try typing a few paragraphs and consider again.
Another annoying issue, the hard drive makes a bothersome tick every 10 or 20 seconds of relative inactivity. SMART says that the drive is in good condition, so I assume this is normal operation of the drive. If you demand a quiet office, you're going to be hard-pressed unless you upgrade the drive one day.
Side note: By default, the laptop makes the F keys secondary, and the multimedia keys primary. This means you have to do Alt+Fn+F4 to close a window or Fn+F5 to refresh a page. This can be changed through the BIOS config, which leads to another interesting note: there is no independent BIOS config screen. You have to run Toshiba's HWSetup tool which is Windows-only and comes preinstalled on the laptop."

"I had tried 2 HP laptops in a row because they were recommended over Toshiba. However both were bad and had to be returned. I bought this Toshiba and have been very happy with it. The only thing I would change is that they ship it without the battery installed. This would make it last longer and be better. Other than that a very good easy to setup laptop"

4. Video need more improvement not true bright, you can see the very tiny grid lines-squares on the screen, screen has gray tiny grainy.
5. The mouse pad is fast but very sensitive, for some reason Internet Explorer keep loading up when you press something on the mouse pad.

"In all fairness, this computer replaced a much more expensive Sony Notebook that was about 6 years old. The Toshiba so far has met or exceeded the Sony in every aspect except for the screen quality, which I guess is to be expected. Since I rarely use battery, I cannot make any comparison for battery life. So far, so good."

"I have been using my laptop now for a little more than a month, and overall I am very satisfied with it. It is really fast (most of the time) and can handle most of everything I do (play games, create videos, programming, etc.) However I think the battery does not last long. For me, it usually dies with in 2 hours, and I have never gotten it to last more than 3. Other than that, I find this laptop to be a good purchase, and am looking forward to using it more."
