"I bought my first Toshiba laptop in 2006. Within a week, I had managed to drop it on the floor. The screen survived and the hard drive survived. I jarred the CDRom drive loose, but quickly found instructions on how to open my laptop and reseat the drive. After 7 years, it was time for a new one....technology changed but the old Toshiba still works. So I knew I would get a new Toshiba Satellite when I hit the store. And so far, I'm loving my new one. Let's just hope I don't drop this one. :)"

"Overall the laptop is pretty good. My only complaints are that the speakers are horrible and very tinny sounding ..there is just no excuse for this. And the row of function keys (f5, f8, etc) have been combined on the number keys so you have to hold down the fn key to access them. And it will not stay connected to my wi-fi.. i'm still working on trying to figure out that issue."

"The combination of Windows 8 with a bouncing cursor is a disaster. I am forced to use an external mouse to have any stability for working with the machine. There are also delays that I do not understand. I used tech support to correct the cursor, but it still is erratic. The touchpad was created to mimic a touch screen so any movement on the pad brings out Windows 8."

"I bought this laptop, looks nice and is fairly fast, but after days I couldn`t connect to internet and took it back to best buy and informed that the wifi card was defective. So I exchange with another Toshiba, after 10 days, I had the same issue and had to return it.
These models are defective."

"Thus system is very nice. It is very responsive. The backlight on the keyboard is very bright. However, the activity keys, example internet connectivity and function keys are mixed. There is no problem with this except the function key assignment is too light to see."

"I had a Dell and used Dells at work. I have also used HP and their products and have found them all to be less then easy to work with. My Toshiba was sooo easy and user friendly. I had an HP printer when I bought my Toshiba. Upon opening my Toshiba it instantly hooked up with my internet connection and found my printer. It asked if I wanted it to down load the correct drivers for me and of course I said yes. It easily connected and was set up in minutes and it's been great ever since. As far as ongoing ease...I had written an email to a professor and mentioned an attachment, which I has failed to attach. I hit send and the Toshiba asked me about the attachment...if I would like to add one since I had mentioned one. Of course and thank you for catching that.LOL...GREAT product...Going to be getting another one for investing and I know I will like it just as much. Highly recommended."

"I've been using this laptop for about 2 months. It is my 3rd Toshiba Satellite. It meets all my expectations. I really like the lighted keyboard. Minor item: the button to open the optical drive drawer is a bit hard to access. Now, if I could only come to grips with Windows 8 - yuk!"

"I really love the appearance, its high quality, durability & portability.
I love the fact that it loads pages & downloads at a super fast pace.
I needed a computer that would be very durable & able to be opened & bumped, without breaking. I have 4 small children & that was one of my concerns. With the TOSHIBA, it has proven to be made of high quality & durability.
I have recommended the TOSHIBA laptop to friends & family. Some of my family members are going to buy one. My daycare provider just brought one like mine a week ago & she loves it, not only for her business, but also for the kids to play games on, & do their school work on.
The TOSHIBA with Window 8 is such a change from my Gateway desktop with windows 98. WOW what a difference.
Now I need to learn & experiment more to figure out how the TOSHIBA & Windows 8 works.
Do you have an instruction booklet on its features & how to work the applications & function keys? Being a newbie to TOSHIBA & Windows 8 it sure would be handy to have an instruction booklet, to use as a reference. If you do have an instruction booklet could you please send me an email on how to get one shipped to me. :)

"I have trouble with the mouse drifting. I like seperate buttons to click as apposed to the pad that has the buttons built into it. Windows 8 is driving me crazy but other than that I like the laptop. Runs fast and battery is new but seems to last for while. If is lasts for more than a 16 months which is when my Samsung died I will be happy. If it makes it 4 years I will be thrilled and tell the world to buy Toshiba.

"The computer itself is very nice: The speakers are nice and loud, and the lighted keyboard makes those that don't have it very jealous. I really don't know about battery life since I keep it plugged in all the time...so far. The reason I gave it 4 Stars is because I hate Windows 8! I wish that they would give us the option to go back to Windows 7. Windows 8 is for touch-screen devices and this computer isn't. I waste alot of time trying to use it. I won't go into all the things that I hate about Windows 8 so far, but it stinks. If I find a way to go back to Windows 7, inexpensively, I will do it."

"I intended to buy a slightly cheaper version of this system but in the end the couple of extra bucks paid off! The performance, picture and sound quality are all pretty top notch. I was a little apprehensive about taking on the new Windows 8 OS but after a few tutorials I was working it very comfortably within a weekend. Though it's not Bluetooth ready a small USB adapter enabled the use of additions like headphones and a mouse. All in all I'm very happy and seriously considering getting another one for a friends birthday present!"

"My dad bought this laptop, but I chose it. I had it since April 8. At first I didn't really like the Windows 8 thing. I also looked up on Google for tutorials on how to make things easier. Found out that a lot of people didn't like Windows 8 either but I also found out that some people got the hang of it and, eventually, appreciated the feature. I like Windows 8 now and I don't bother installing the old Start menu as I planned before. The speakers are amazing! So wonderful! I don't even plan on buying a speaker anymore; it's loud and clear. I also like the idea that I just have to do some brushing of my fingers to scroll. However, sometimes the "charm" (right side with the search) shows up without my intention. Scrolling isn't as smooth as a mac but I've gotten used to it now and it doesn't bother me much anymore.
Unlike my previous laptop which was also a Toshiba, the keys are further apart and it's quite noisy and requires more effort in typing. I'm somewhat fine with it though since my fingers and hands tend to sweat and I can just wipe the keys and gaps clean. I pretty much chose this because of the num pad as I am going to take engineering. The mouse pad doesn't have the smoothest reaction and the right and left click really makes a hard.. well, clicky sound when pressed. I wish I can just click on a button followed by a touch on the mouse pad for this (like a mac) I like that I can choose what the Power button does; now I only have to push it again so that it'll shut down -- no holding. As for the webcam, it isn't quite the best but it's still okay. The microphone (when I used the sound recorder app) gives very detailed results, though not super HD, it's still acceptable. I appreciate the Eco Utility app as well. It keeps a track of how much energy the laptop's been consuming everyday, new feature for me. The computer doesn't heat up quickly, which is really really nice. It was a disappointment though when I found out that this laptop can't read xD cards. The lighting in the keyboard is too bright for me as well, I couldn't find any button to adjust it. The battery life is just average, although it does charge up fast. I had to unpin a bunch of apps that were pre-installed in the start menu, also uninstalled a bunch that I didn't need since I had to pay for them. I don't mind that this laptop isn't touch screen as the mouse pad had fought well.
Price was set very well. That's about it. This is a great laptop and I hope its performance will last long. God bless! :-)"

"As you can imagine from the title, I was surprised that Toshiba decided to pair a non-touch-screen computer with an operating system for which that is an essential aspect. You want to move the screen to the left? Simple - just move the drag-bar at the bottom of the screen (which doesn't show until you move the cursor) to the right.
Microsoft, in its infinte wisdom, chose to not provide a Windows 7 compatible mode so we non touch screeners could have a simple "START" button on the task bar. In fact, all the examples (of using Windows 8) show that icon present, but I have yet to find how to enable it.
The inability to use the screen in touch screen mode is especially frustrating considering that all of our phones do have a touch screen. And they cost less than the computer.
I will say that I was pleasantly surprised that when I installed Chrome and gave it my gmail address it brought across all my bookmarks from another laptop that had it installed. But that's a kudo for Chrome, not Toshiba."

"So far I love almost all the features of this laptop. The backlit display is awesome. The sound is awesome (compared to my old laptop) The battery life is pretty impressive, it's fast and quiet. I'm with the others on hating windows 8 but I'm sure I'll eventually get used to it. Only thing I can say I dislike, this keyboard Is not made for fast light fingered typers I find myself going back a lot to correct mistakes, as I type faster then the keyboard wants and I think it's made more for harder fingered typers. When I slow down and use more force on the keyboard, it seems to work better, but it's very had to slow down. I'm not impressed with the mouse either. More force needed as well."

"When on a trip to the US my 10 year old lap top died I made the decision to go new with Windows 8 and MS Office 2013. So far the PC exceeds my expectations. Less than perfect is the button to open the DVD drive, too hard to get at. Also the ear phone plug is in the front right and I use external speakers, the cord interferers with my mouse. The user Manual starts with many pages of un-necessary filler. As a Canadian I am prevented from purchasing accessories etc from the US site; not good. Overall great PC but I have not experimented with Battery life. ."

"The Toshiba Satellite has been somewhat of a disappointment to me. First the USB drive didn't work during setup then when typing on the beautifully-lighted keyboard, certain letters, especially the 'e,' and the space bar, don't want to work properly. I was hoping that the Toshiba would outshine my older laptop, but alas, it doesn't....Windows 8 has a steep learning curve."

"This is my third Toshiba laptop. I keep coming back because the value and the performance are top notch. I recently took a trip and used my laptop for music and the battery life surprised me. "i purchased this laptop to replace my aging laptop that was starting to nickle and dime me to death. the new laptop has Windows 8 which has taken a while to get used to but overall, i am very happy with my purchase.
i love the backlit keys, the overall performance and the reliability. i have used it with dual monitors and that was a breeze to get working. My only complaint is the battery life - 3-4 hours at the most. i would have liked more."

"This laptop is very great, I'm a college student and this is my first laptop that I have bought on my own. A couple of things about this laptop. Very fast response time, its pushing about 8gb of ram memory. Expandable to 16 which I plan to do. The battery life is great and as well as the track pad. Speakers are what makes this laptop so great as well. The keyboard is super, I would recommend it to people who type hard. Also The brightness is very great in this computer! OVERALLL BUY THIS LAPTOP ITS AT A GREAT PRICE."

"This is my second laptop in twenty years and only my third computer. I really miss not having a printed manual to read before firing the latest and greatest up. I know that the 65+ crowd would appreciate one included in the box so that they could take time to acquaint themselves with all of the information before venturing into the cyber neverland of computing. 180+ pages should be available at the point of purchase for those who would like that option. Love it now that I am use to it. Biggest problem was Windows 8. The leap from XP to tiles was daunting if not scarey."

"It may be Windows 8, it may be the laptop. The sync feature with email is terrible, and about three times a week the wireless adapter fails and I have to reconnect to the wireless network."

"This is my second Toshiba laptop. My first was purchased 8 years ago and it was used on a daily basis for pretty much the entire 8 years. It is still working well as I write this review, now my wife is using it. My old Toshiba is running on an AMD Turion 4x2 processor. That machine served me very well and is still running like a top albeit the screen now has a little flicker in its presentation.
My new Toshiba with an Intel core i5 is so much faster and smoother I just could not be happier than I am right now.
I am not a big gamer, I use my computer to work so I do run a lot of spreadsheet, word and powerpoint files. I expect the new laptop to be serving me well up to and through the year 2020. Now that's a stretch for anybody using electronics today...but those are my expectations and I don't think my Toshiba will let me down."

"We like our new Toshiba lap-top; however we would like a printed version of a user's manual. I understand the manual is available as a download, but that involves a lot of printing if you need it as a reference. There are a lot of features and buttons that we do not know what they do or where they are on the computer. The ' hunt and find ' method does not do it for us at all ! We are still finding new features every so often !"

"I love this laptop...it's incredibly fast and very responsive. My only negative comment is that the keyboard is hard to get used to...the flat keys make it easy to make errors, and the positioning of the keys takes some getting used to. Windows 8 is more fun that I thought it would be!"

"Within 3 days, the computer was malfunctioning, and no one could fix it. I returned it to the store of purchase to get it replaced, and the second one had the same issue; going into sleep mode by itself. I decided to take it back to the store again, and there were many other people that had the same problem. At that point I returned it and bought a different brand. I think I will be staying away from Toshiba computers from now on."

"I purchased this Toshiba because I had another Toshiba Sattelite that I used for years before the hard drive finally went. This new laptop had windows 8 on it and would try to update when I was in the middle of something and then tell me the computer would update in 2 days after getting 84% of the way through the update. I was not able to use this computer for an entire month and finally returned the machine to the store. I think if it didn't have Windows 8 on it, it would have been fine. I was able to manage to figure out how to use the app and short cut keys to get where I wanted to go, but not without researching the web. This really isn't Toshiba's fault, but a windows 8 problem."

"Can not give the machine a real review, but so far the service was great. Only on hold for about a minute until I got a tech. The tech did not have me do the usual dumb restart thing after I told him I had already done it. He tried a few things and escalated me to a senior tech. He determined that there was a problem and sent a free shipping box to return the machine and offered me a choice - free repair or total refund. Cannot get much better than that"

"I bought this laptop because I could customize it with all the bells and whistles. I regret the purchase. Despite the high memory and speed, the design of the laptop itself is terrible. The trackpad is unpleasant to the touch and near impossible to use. A simple task such as dragging a file to the trash takes several tries. I have tweaked the mouse driver software to the best of it's ability, but the problem lies with the hardware. The keyboard casing is textured so even light brushing on the surface causes a vibration. It also hinders using the Windows 8 "off the screen" functions since the trackpad surface and casing surface are so different-- the items you drag simply "drop" before pulling off the screen. For the money, it would be much better to get a touch screen laptop than attempt to use this pre-Windows 8 'box' with the new operating system. The battery life is worse than my previous 6 year-old laptop. Additionally, the optical drive is flimsy and gets stuck to the point of not responding to software or hardware "eject" commands causing me to have to restart the laptop to retrieve CDs. The first few months of a new computer should be joyful, but the P850 feels like I'm using a hand-me-down from 2005."

"This is a good laptop for daily use. It is very light and portable for a laptop of its size. It has a great design and comfortable keyboard for heavy typists. The speakers are really great. The battery life is okay, I can get a good four and a half hour battery on it, but it charges really fast; good for travel. The body is good it can avoid a ding here and there. It has its occasional bumps in performance like every laptop but it wont hold you down. Overall a solid laptop! props to toshiba"

"Within a half hour of using it the screen got a purple tint to it. This tint was present in the Bios menu as well, so definitely not an operating system issue, but rather a hardware issues.
I found the touchpad to be horrible to use as well.
I returned it and got a full refund. The return process was relatively easy and they pre-paid the shipping. So, that part was good."
