"I really like music and sports. This laptop is perfect for both. I can't until fantasy football starts this season. I was able to rip all my old compact discs in no time at all and have tons of space still available. 750 GB is more than I realized. Time to buy some more music."

"I LOVE my new laptop. It has an amazing screen resolution and is super fast.
UNFORTUNATLEY it came pre loaded with WONDOWS 8 ... This has to be THE most frustrating operating system ever made. It is HORRIBLE.
I will have it removed and a functional one replace it.
The computer itself is GREAT.
Love the backlit keyboard wonderful feature!"

"My wife and I purchased this laptop about 2 months ago. We're still getting used to the Windows 8 operating system. One issue we had with this laptop is, one time the thing locked up. We had only had it for a few days...so we were worried! However, my wife called the Toshiba support and after removing the battery,it ran as it should. Since then, we have had no other problems.
We aren't gamers, or very tech savy, but we both have moderate experience using computers. We have kids so the main reason for us to have this laptop is to use it for videos and pics of the family. And shopping, e-mails, and browsing, etc. I think this laptop will serve us well for our purposes...however, after we've had for a year or so I will be able to give a better review of performance, durability, etc. I do wish the battery would last longer!"

"To begin with I love the laptop hardware. Great keys, mousepad isn't as bad as it could be, and the usb 3.0 ports are sweet. I'm not upset with the 3rd generation i7 core either, BUT Windows 8 is terrible. It's counter-intuitive, it's great if you want to play, it would be great on a tablet, but it's no good on a laptop that's geared towards work. Windows 8 Pro? Not much better from what I can see. Not impressed at all. I would prefer to be able to easily downgrade to Windows 7 professional, but does Windows 8 make that easy? Nope. It's like being in a Windows toilet bowl, watching the portal to the world swirl above as good ole Microsoft flushes away any chance of escaping the toilet bowl. *sigh* Toshiba, do everyone a favor and load Windows 7 Professional on the machines instead of windows 8 Maybe when windows blue comes out it'll be better but this current OS is terrible. It's so bad that I am severely tempted to try exorcising the machine in the hopes that it will reform it's evil ways."

"The touch pad is almost unusable (bought a mouse to put it out of its misery). Display is very good, keys are cheap and not responsive. The function keys are not what I'm used to - e.g. the sound off/on and volume would have benefited from their own keys. Whatever."

"Bought this laptop for my wife to digitize embroidery designs on. It works great for that application. The battery life isn't very good. I'm only getting about 3 hours out of one charge but since we use it plugged in most of the time, that's not a real issue for us."

"I am a mortgage broker, arranging home loans for clients. I have several issues. I cannot use my computer to enter several primary mortgage sites, It shows a broken page on the bar, Like Plaza Home Mortgage and Efannie mae, I can go in but I cannot review or print from my laptop, I have made many phone calls since my purchase almost a month ago, It appears the problem is that I am more advanced than others I need to work with, I have internet explorer 10 and of course windows 8, and the majority of the companies I work with are I.E. 8 average. I purchased this large screen 17.3 screen so I could use one computer and when I am away over night I can take everything with me. Now I am running between two different computers, still using an older desk top XP, that I had hoped to eliminate, now I must keep it running and set up to do my work daily. I also wonder why with such a large screen almost everything only takes up half the screen, this defeats the purpose of a larger computer. Windows 8 has been a learning challenge, I did notice on CNNMONEY site, that they are coming up with some fix's for windows 8. I am hoping some might fix my main issues?????? I like the style of the computer, but hate laptop keyboards, so I have a separate mouse and keyboard with works great when not away."

"I bought this machine 2 weeks ago, and despite many complaints about Win8, have to say, upgrading to Win8 Pro and being myself a developer, I couldn't find a better replacement laptop, yes is heavy, but graphics, sounds and the expansion options (2nd bay for another HDD and 2 more visible slots for 16Gb RAM), well.... 5 stars no doubt...
Also, it was very easy to find the drivers, that is just great..."

"This is my third custom-built Toshiba satellite laptop in nine years. The previous two were great. This one suffers from a terrible keyboard, in that the space bar, unless pressed exactly in the middle, does not register a space, and has been this way since Day 1. I have had to attach an external keyboard to be able to work. Am working with Toshiba Support on the issue. Based on this problem I would not buy another or recommend a Toshiba laptop. Sad."

"I love the ease of use of this laptop. The keyboard is solid and spaced perfectly for ease of use. The back lit key board is an added feature that I use later in the evening without putting extra strain on the eyes. My laptop has no hesitation what so ever when I go from one item or window to the next. This computer is solid and built with quality. The screen offers a crystal clear view with no distortion."

"My last laptop was a Toshiba and other than a busted screen that I am unable to find a replacement for it is still as fast and functional as the day it came out of the box over fourteen years ago. As time went by it took the updates to improve function and to interface with different programs. The only reason I couldn't find a screen is that my poor laptop outlived its perceived usefulness. It has been a surprise to all the shops I went to especially when you look at the stacks of other computers they have that are only one or two years old. Toshiba is the only brand that I would buy, it is top of the line, first rate. In my work I have used several different types and brands of computers both in functions and user compatibility none can compare to the Toshiba. I love my new laptop but it is still hard to let go of my old one . I keep a monitor connected to it and the kids use it while I work on mine."

"The laptop has been a good investment so far. I have no technical issues to complain about.
Windows 8 needs work. I feel it is a typical OS change that Microsoft is testing for the real version. It is comparable to Windows ME and Vista. Unlike Windows ME, Windows 8 is stable. The interface is not as friendly as it needs to be for computers. It is not easy to close a native Win8 app. I do most of my stuff in Desktop mode anyhow.
The laptop is powerful. I was looking at purchasing a Mac as my next laptop. After reviewing the Apple systems, I could purchase the same horsepower in this laptop for a third of the price."

"We have been using our Toshiba lap top for about 6 weeks now and love it. Hopefully, it will be more reliable that the Dell product it replaced. However, it took about two weeks to learn and overcome some of the gliches that come with Windows 8, but now everything is fine."

"The laptop works fine, with the exception of the tablet type mouse. It's hard to find what you want, therefore, I've had to resort to using an external mouse. "I use this laptop as my main computer. This was my second Toshiba and I liked the first one so much. It gave me great service for the last 6 years, and still does. "For the price, this is a great value in a laptop. If you are in need of a good desktop substitute, this is it. It can hold 32 gigs of ram and has a second bay for an additional hard drive. The battery life for non-gaming is good for most daily home duties. I do not like all the extra, what I call junk loaded by the manufacturer! I wish I had a choice for Windows 7 as I think Windows 8 is non-productive! Too many moves and is not intuitive to get where you need to go. That said, I like the laptop very much and am glad I went with this machine. I looked at many before choosing this."

"I replaced a 5 year old laptop with this unit so I am totally amazed with the speed and features. While I have some of the same issues as most users with Windows 8 the laptop is the best I've seen in years. I shopped for a replacement for six months and this Toshiba is the best combination of speed and usability I found and it a great value for the $. The clarity of the screen is shocking and the lighted keyboard makes this great to use in the wee hours of the morning without disturbing anyone."

"I have had this computer for about 6 weeks. I used it one morning then went out. I had it set didn't work. t up to come on when I lifted the top. When I did that, the light came on like it was going to boot up. After about 2 minutes I realized it wasn't. All I had was a black screen, nothing. No Toshiba logo, nothing. I had to take it in, and it is still there. I have never run across this before, especially with a i7 core and 16gb memory"

"I like that the PC boots quickly. The only problem I have is the mouse pad is very sensitive to touch. The size changes (zooms in and out) way too easily. At times it seems like I am not even touching it all and it zooms in and out. I find it very frustrating/irritating at times and I have to keep resizing the screen."

"I have found this laptop to have everything I need for school and (some) work. Other than installing Microsoft Office, I had everything I needed when I opened the box. The laptop is fast, Windows 8 (after some time on the learning curve) is very efficient and user friendly. the light up keyboard has proven to be beneficial, so has the numeric keypad."

"I love the big screen size and the display is beautiful! The speakers are incredible, doesn't sound like a laptop at all, sounds more like a stereo. The big keyboard is excellent as my hands aren't all cramped together when I type; and I like the fact that it has a numberpad on the right hand side. The function buttons at the top of the keyboard are another great feature as they serve double duty as volume control, play/pause, rewind, fast forward, etc. The only downside is the battery life. When gaming it dies pretty quickly so I need to have the power cable and an outlet nearby. But I love the laptop, glad I went with this over others that I was considering. Would recommend you do the same!!"

"Since I am not a tech person, I cannot recommend the lap top. It is taking me a while to learn about applications and the display of my e-mail messages. Whenever I want to see my pics from the memory camera, this computer goes straight to somewhere to download everything, so I have to go back to the old screen...anyway, may be to modern for me."

"Previously had a Satellite A series, then an L305D, which I was happy with, buy I needed more multitasking abilities and wanted a bigger screen. Saw this one at Best Buy and thought it was the best of the nongaming 17.3".
Pros:
Very good screen quality, and great balance of size to weight (still a little hefty, but I can still take it on thr DC Metro every day without needing shoulder surgery, and I am not a powerlifter)
Excellent battery life - can have 3-4 programs plus watch something on iTunes in between and I get well over 3 hours easily.
OK/not their fault
Windows 8 - there's a learning curve, but better than retraining to a Mac. Biggest issue is that, after being on for a few days, the programs start to lag. After a fairly quick restart, back to normal, but an annoyance when I'm writing and have to save, close, restart, and reopen all my programs and browser windows.
con: the touchpad. the P series touchpad is one piece, so the "buttons" are just the bottom edge. you can't scroll with your fingers and click with your thumb - th arrow goes flying. the conventional 3-piece touchpad is on the othe models. it's a pain in the butt.
other than that, does what it should generally."

"This is a really good laptop for tech savvy users or people who like/need to have a larger screen. The features are nice, it loads really fast, it has a really long battery life and the keyboard includes a number pad. The graphics are solid and the screen display is very bright. "I purchased two other Windows 8 laptop computers, took them back and traded up to the size and features I didn't know I wanted when I purchased the first two. I haven't had a laptop since I retired in 1995 at age 56. A desktop computer was fine for me at home until I became involved in an activity where I needed a laptop again.
Each of the first two were OK in a way. The first one had a small touch-enabled screen that proved to be too-small. The second had a larger touch-enable screen that was still too small to see adequately and the screen was so reflective that it was hard to use in a Starbucks-like environment with bright sunlight behind me. The non-touch screen on this laptop is beautiful, easy to see and with mouse-trails enabled the combination of a full size keyboard and screen makes for a very productive package.
The bonus with the Toshiba is that all the provided documentation makes the purchaser believe that they really care about communicating with you in a clear and understandable way. It's easy to learn about all the features available to you working with understandable text and visuals. I'm no dummy and this is not my first rodeo with computers but I know when a company has taken the time and studied their lesson in customer communication. As has been said, it is easy to make things difficult and hard to make things simple. Toshiba wins hands-down in this arena.
My wife continued with the middle sized laptop that was the second one I bought. From day one, it would not properly communicate with the 2010 LG flat-screen external monitor she had used successfully with her previous laptop of the same brand. After spending a couple of hours at the retail store with their experts trying to get the video synchronized between laptop and external monitor and over three hours on the phone with three of the manufacturer's technical people and still failing to get it to perform properly we finally found a person at the retail store who could use the several dialog boxes required to make it perform properly. At the same time, the Toshiba P875-S7102 from the same retail store performed flawlessly with her monitor, plug & play right out of the box.
I looked at the other Top Ratings of this particular Toshiba laptop before settling on it. They were right!"

"I gave this computer a overall rating of average because the first laptop I got had to be returned within the first week because it had an error pop up while trying to make recovery DVD's according to Toshiba customer service there was a hard drive problem??? After getting the second computer it also had a similar problem just a different error message. I took it back to the place I purchased it and I was done with Toshiba until I worked with there tech guy, he heard somewhere that Toshiba's with windows 8 were having problems making recovery DVD's and he gave me a flash drive to make my recovery onto which worked, he was surprised that the customer service at Toshiba did not give me this info. I've only had this laptop for 2 weeks now other than the above issue it works good for my needs. I'm undecided if I would recommend this computer to anyone else at this time because of the problems I've had."

mouse pad inexcuseablely bad so I needed an external mouse. Being right handed my mouse was right next to exaust fan of hot air from powerful processor. Isn't that supose to be in the back?
Also this machine has a problem going to sleep. It seems to wake up by itself and go active. Maybe it's windows 8 that is the probelm because it was optimized for a touch screen and this is a laptop without the touch feature.

"I purchased my laptop about a month ago and I have pushed it hard to see what I could accomplish. I enjoy gaming both online and off. Several of them are graphic intensive. I did not expect the performance from this system due to its integrated graphics chip, but it surprised me on it smooth frame rate and lack of lags. I also write computer programs where there could be several hundred lines of code and the debugging and compiling times have been very good.

"I love this laptop. The price was out of my range but I'm glad I spent it. The processor on this computer kicks butt. I haven't had any problems with programs freezing up or the system crashing. I've had it for over a month and haven't had any issues. Games work very well on it.
A couple of things were hard to get used to, the touchpad and the operating system.
Touchpad: the left and right clicking buttons are not JUST buttons, they also are touch, so your cursor will move on accident sometimes when you are about to click down. Can be a bit annoying.
Operating System: Windows 8 is way different than previous Windows versions and there is a lot to learn before feeling comfortable using it. Some cool aspects to it, but it really boils down to what you, as the user, prefer.
Also, kind of random but the speakers are amazing for a laptop."

"I bought this Toshiba because I needed a new laptop for school and business. What a surprise that it is so expandable and upgradable! It can hold 32 GB of memory and even has space for a second hard drive! I plan on installing a Western Digital Scorpio Black for it's performance to handle video editing. The 1080P screen is sharp and resolute. Even the finest print comes out clear and easily readable. The sound for a laptop is amazing and clear! The Harmon Kardon sound system easily passes everything out there in other laptops. Battery life is decent for a laptop with these capabilities, but hopefully there is a battery with longer run time coming out soon if it hasn't already. Charging is very fast however which makes battery life easy to live with. All in all, battery life is still quite good!! Yes, I would recommend this laptop for everyone serious about computing with a very capable machine!"

"By far, the best value for the amount spent. Harmon-Kardon speakers produce great sound with distinct stereo separation. 17 inch screen is super-sharp with true Hi Def performance (1920x1080). Graphics Performance is 5.9 because of the use of the Intel HD Graphics 4000 chip. Processor and memory (24GB) Performance are rated at 7.8. No delay in playing HD DVDs.
Back lit keyboard makes it easy to work without much light around the machine which lessens degradation of color on the screen. It is very easy to adjust colors with photo software without glare to get an almost perfect match to the actual colors in the dials of watches I primarily photograph."

"From the very beginning I charged my battery to 100%. I then unplugged it. The battery life most of the time doesn't last more than a couple of hours. This is not a very good battery life. "I have had a computer since 1982 and have tried to progress with each evolution. To my dismay, I found the features and Windows 8 operating system, on this computer, somewhat over whelming. The computer itself is super, but I have trouble following the information/guidance provided in the tutorials embodied with the computer. Slowly , however, I am getting there. I guess the critique I am giving is more directed towards the Windows 8 operating system, rather than the computer. In summary, I am more than pleased with the Satellite P875-S7102 Laptop; its speed, large screen, etc. I am certain as I continue to use and become more familiar with the computer and Windows 8, I will find this to be best choice I could have made in purchasing a new laptop. "My brother is a big Apple nerd. When I bought my new Satellite, I sent him a text message stating that I'd purchased a new toy that was in an aluminum case, had a fast Intel processor, and a new OS that I was going to have to get used to (Win 8). LOL!
My last laptop was an older Satellite with a 17-inch screen and an AMD Athalon processor. It had the Harmon/Kardon sound, which I swore I would never specifically seek out (until I'd played with the premium sound and got spoiled). The upgraded sound is highly recommended if you are going to use your notebook for any kind of sound ever. Similarly, the backlit keyboard is nice, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get one.
The 17.3-inch 1080p screen is a huge step up from my old 17 because of the resolution alone. It's like having a real computer monitor on my notebook. The i7 processor is blazingly fast, and the 8 GB of ram helps a lot. I will eventually upgrade the ram to the 32 GB max, but find it unnecessary at the moment.
As with many of the bigger Toshiba Satellites, this one has a second hard drive bay so you can add another internal if you want to. I'm going to be hard pressed to fill up the factory 750 GB drive, but have toyed around with installing a SSD as the primary and relegating the 750 to file storage.
I have been getting four or five hours on a battery charge, which shocked me. My AMD based big-screen laptops have had a hard time getting better than two hours (if even that). Some people have complained about the battery life on this beast, but I'm quite pleased with it.
There's really nothing specifically bad that I can say about this machine so far. I wish they had gone straight milled aluminum on the case for a true Apple fighter, but they did a nice job blending aluminum and color matched plastic.
Two or three years ago, I looked at new notebooks. At the time I had some serious i7 lust, but couldn't touch one for under $1000, and that was a fairly stripped-down model. This machine is quite full-featured and rang in well under the four-digit mark. I couldn't be more pleased with my purchase.
Future upgrades will include more ram, another internal drive (either a spinner or a SSD), and probably a Blu-Ray drive. I don't know that I need a burner, but price and availability will likely dictate what I wind up with there."

"Still learning the features that it has. A minor disappointment is most of the games listed are for short trials only. Miss the basic solitare, and other basic games as before.
As for the Laptop itself, it has more features that I may use as a homeowner. I really like the 17" screen. Keyboard is neat, buttons are easy.
Need to have a 90 Degree DC power connector. so that it doesn't stick out as much. Possible damage if accidentally hit.

"This is a nice laptop; however, because it is Windows 8, it is very different than Windows 7 as explained to us by the salesperson. There is no written booklet so we were basically on our own when it came to doing simple, basic things. We're learning as we go along but there should be some sort of instructional booklet for people who are first time laptop buyers or those who have not been exposed to Windows 8. "I have only had the computer for about a month so I am trying to get use to it. My five year old HP laptop crashed for no known reason and it's been difficult to retrieve some if not all the data from my old hard drive. It is taking some time to get use to Windows 8 as well. I was impressed by the customer support from Toshiba."

"Good sound and resolution. Video streaming stops sometimes and continues. Touchpad will be annoying sometimes, when you move your finger over touchpad to move the cursor, a new window will appear all of a sudden. Window 8 is a pain."

"Very difficult to write a review with so little time I have had with my new laptop. The keys seem to stick a little and I have to do a lot of backspacing or words will run together. It is pretty annoying.
Also very little instruction given with the laptop so I was pretty much in the dark as to how to use it, especially with Windows 8. Spacebar too short for sure."

"I've been using this laptop for about two months as my primary home and work computer and so far I love it! Big, bright screen, great sound, good battery life, ports/jacks seem thoughtfully placed. My only complaint is that the touchpad is ENORMOUS, more than twice the size of my previous laptop's touchpad. You have to re-train yourself so as not to accidentally right-click on everything or touch the touchpad with the heel of your hand. After a few weeks this stopped being a big issue. Otherwise no complaints!"

"My Satellite is much faster than my old PC. The on/off area on the screen is difficult to access (can't get it to pop up when you want it and it pops up often when you don't want it! Many of the changes from XP and Windows 7 are unnecessary and don't improve the performance. They aren't improvements."

"I went with this model because I currently have a Toshiba satellite from a year ago and really liked it. I needed a second laptop because conflicts with two people in school and needing to do work at the same time, plus online classes at the same time. This laptop is very fast and I can have multiple applications open at the same time with no lag between switching from one to the other. When your in an online course and you have to check or look something up at the same time that feature is extremely nice. I can jump out and surf the web on a topic the instructor has asked about and within seconds be back in the class with the answer. The back lite keyboard helps too because I don't need to have an external light on to be able to work. Where I purchased this laptop, the technicians who set up everything for me told me I had an outstanding computer. It is powerful and the speed is excellent for whatever I want to use it for. One even stated that it is a laptop they wouldn't mind owning especially for the price I paid. Not bad considering the number of laptops they see everyday. I have used this same location many times so I know the people there fairly well and they know me, so it wasn't a case of them telling me this for the sale. It was a genuine comment from someone who knows."

"I was in the market for a new laptop, and was shown this in the showroom. I was not really prepared to spend this much, but, hey, it is an investment. I also wanted the Windows 8, so...this had just been released, and I scooped it up. I'm still trying to point, click, and explore some features, so I cannot review a lot on this laptop yet. It is very easy to use, though, and I haven't experienced any glitches yet (I usually wait for new products to be out a while before I buy them, in case any design flaws are found). All-in-all, not one complaint."

"This laptop has everything I needed with out the high price! The light up key board is one of my favorite features, but the Harman/Kardon speakers play great! The only down side to my laptop is that the DVD/CD drawer will open randomly. Sometimes the laptop isn't even being used and it will just pop out. Other times, when I lift it up, the drawer will open. ( but I think that is because it is exactly where you would put your hand to lift the laptop up to put it on your lap. Maybe the pressure of my hand is causing it to open?)"

"I LOVE the backlit keyboard and I'm so glad that I spent the extra money on this model just for that reason. The large screen and 10-key number pad make this laptop ideal for my business applications. I also like that the DV drive opens on the left so it doesn't interfere with my mouse. Everything runs fast and smooth, and the speakers are loud and clear. I'm not too keen on the Windows8 OS, but overall I am quite pleased with this product."

"This is my 3rd laptop ever. My 1st was old and heavy, my folks gave it to me. My 2nd I returned within 2 weeks because of the keyboard, it was a nice HP but not what I truly wanted. My mom told me if your not happy now you won't be later either, pay for what you want don't settle just because it's a good price, on sale or clearance item. I LOVE MY TOSHIBA SATELLITE!! It has everything I was looking for and then some. Beautiful resolution, bold keys, backlit keyboard I can see in the dark and WITHOUT MY GLASSES IF I WANT. The price was within range also. I paid for what I wanted and got what I needed! Still having troubles navigating Windows 8, but it's a learning curve. So far very happy!!!"

"Like the computer but I have purchased two and both faulty plug in (the area where the plug enters the computer is weak and easily breaks) so the computer doesnt charge.
Never had this problem with any other computer before. But Both of these Toshiba computers are problems. Too 40+ days to get the last one fixed!"
