"I was looking to find something lighter and more portable than a 3-year old 17" laptop. The transition from 17" to 14" has been surprisingly smooth. The LED backlit display is bright and clear, and is easy on the eyes. I've had good luck, so far, with the battery. Using it off and on during the day, I can leave the power cord at home and not worry about running out of juice. The keyboard is a little loud, but is responsive for my needs. I have no argument with processor speed, and didn't know how much I needed the sleep and charge combo port until I had one. A couple of issues that were the genesis of the 4 rating for Features: touchpad and keyboard. The touchpad is very sensitive, and you'll save yourself plenty of frustration if you get a wireless mouse at the same time you purchase this computer. The one feature that would have pushed this computer to a five-for-five rating would have been a backlit keyboard. I do a fair amount of work on the computer at night and in low light conditions. Backlit keyboards aren't as easy to find as one might think. Backlit keyboards should be the rule rather than the exception. All in all, a great computer. I'm very happy with the purchase."

"The Good: I have used Toshiba laptops for the last 10 years or more and have always been very satisfied with them. This one is no exception. It does everything I need it to do, which consists primarily of accessing the internet, emailing and drafting of documents. In addition, it is relatively light in weight, compared to my last one, and I've downsized from the 15.6" screen to the 14.0" but really don't notice a difference. The Bad: Battery life is not as good as was advertised, but I generally work from an office or at home, where reliance on the battery is not critical. In addition, my last Toshiba had 4 UBS connections, this one has only 3, although the addition of the 3.0 connection is great for backing up the hard drive. The Ugly: My one beef is with the touch pad: If I'm not using a mouse and am typing an email or document, I will frequently find the cursor has jumped and I am suddenly typing in the middle of a sentence already completed, or, in the case of an email, I've even accidently sent an email with an incomplete sentence. The computer has a button to turn the cursor off - Toshiba obviously recognizes there is an issue here - but it is something you have to constantly turn on and off, and wait to take effect, which slows down typing, sending and researching. Not a problem I've ever had with a Toshiba before."

"This laptop met my needs of processing speed, hard drive capacity, a medium size screen, light weight, good battery power, and good design. It has proven to be all of those and I researched it thoroughly before purchasing."

"I bought this laptop to replace an older 15.6" Satellite laptop. The weight difference is awesome and the size is actually better as I find that I don't miss anything on the screen the computer sits more comfortably in more places. In less than a month I have not put the battery completely through its paces, but I am not seeing the over the top long battery life that I read about when I ordered this unit. We'll see. My only real gripe relates to the touchpad. Thank God for the on/off switch because it is really difficult to type without engaging it and really messing up your work. I have tried adjusting the sensitivity and that has helped some, but I still find myself turning it off if I'm typing more than a sentence or two. Also, when working at a desk, I plug in a USB wireless mouse. That works great, but when I'm done I have to reinstall the drivers for the touchpad as they get lost in the switch. I need to call Toshiba to discuss this, but have not had time. I don't know if it is a Windows 7 thing or a Toshiba thing."

"After using my old Toshiba for about 5 years or more I finally purchase my new R845. It is Great! The Intel WiDi works fine with my netgear Push2TV... The laptop is fast and the battery life is much better than expected."
