"It astounds me how PC owners rip a product without reading the instructions. This is for WINDOWS based-PCs. The Port must be USB2 or compatible. The first clue you should have about this external Drive is NTSF. Follow the instructions, or get help. Works Great!"

"I had several computers backed up to this device. I would get a clicking sound, like the "Click of Death" from iOmega Zip drives. Often I would have to discount the USB cord from my PC and re-connect several times before the computer would see the drive. Then it got to the point where the PC would not see it at all. I had to ship it back to get a credit to by something else from them."

"My computer recognizes that there is an external drive, but not that it's a Toshiba drive. If there is software there, it didn't install, and I can't use it either as storage or as backup. When I click on the drive, I'm told to insert a disk. There is no "troubleshooting" for this issue.
I'm extremely disappointed and inconvenienced, as i needed this for immediate use. It will cause me to think twice about buying another Toshiba product. I will *try* getting help froml customer support, but frankly, I'm not sure there's any drive actually in this box. It's extremely light and my computer does not recognize it at all."

"I was really excited for this hard drive. The idea of the drive's software going out and finding the files on the PC that need to be backed up is outstanding. The construction of the case seems durable and the aesthetics of the drive are pleasing. Featurewise this drive looks very good on paper.
But I am having issues with the drive. It keeps disconnecting and reconnecting at random intervals when on the USB 3.0 port. The disonnection happens in less than 1 - 2 minutes. However, if I move the drive to the USB 2.0 port it works fine. But then, I am limited to the slow USB 2 speeds.
On USB 2.0 I was able to use the drive to back up files from 3 different computers. If I could get the drive to work with USB 3, I would have given it a much better score."

"Like many others this product didn't work for me either. Of course I could have bought some kind of driver update if I paid for it, but the most frustrating part in all of this is the computer it wouldn't work with is the same company. Toshiba. I need to pitch both the computer and this item since neither are worth a dime.
Really should have known better than to purchase a Toshiba item since I've had problems with their products since day one."

"When I take backup from my notebook (Asus i5 - recent model with Windows-7), it stops intermittantly - backup is not continuous, expecting user inputs - doesn't work as expected to take "automatic/nightly backups". To top it up, I can't register the product online, it doesn't even show this product in the available list - not a great product from Toshiba, fix it!!!"

"I bought this to back up my hard drive on a newer Sony Vaio, and I can't access the drive itself. It installed driver software automatically, but then is inaccessible. It is not located in the "E:\" drive when plugged in. I can find it under "devices and printers", but only to view properties. I cannot use it as an external hard drive, and the automatic backup feature never initiated (at least that I'm aware of). I'm sure the product is fine, but it sure didn't work for me. I will now return it, and hopefully it will work for someone else."

"Well it does work bit the software is a bit weak. Keeps acting like I just plugged it in after a few minutes. Seems to me that this device could use a firmware update to cure it's minor but annoying behavior however it does work if you use it as a normal backup device and not depend on the auto backup software.
One last thing is that this device does not come up when I you go to register it, almost feels like Toshiba is ashamed of this little engine that could."

"Bought this to use with my MacBook Air. Works great! I formatted the drive for use with the Mac and have had no problems. For those that are having issues, try using a USB Micro cable instead of the one that came with the drive and it will work fine. The on side of the connection on the drive is a USB Micro which makes it work at USB 2.0 speeds. The software on the drive is not very good for Windows so I would recommend using different software for your backups in Windows. Fast and quiet drive. The price was cheaper than any other online stores so the value is great!!"

"One of the best external drive I've used, and not to mention the fastest!
Plug and play straight out of the box. For the users having issues, you need to update/reinstall your USB 3.0 drivers.
I've owned several of these and never once had any issues that many users describe. I think "user error" would be the problem for most."

"This hard drive works on my USB 2.0 port. I bought and installed a USB 3.0 adapter card into my computer. The driver is correctly installed for this card, and Windows reports that the device is working properly. I plug my Toshiba 500 gb drive into this USB 3.0 port, and windows says the hard drive must be formatted before use. It won't let me quick format, so I have to let it format the drive slowly (1.5 hrs). It gets 99% of the way done, and then says it can't format the drive. And this drive is waaaaaay too slow (25mb/sec) on the USB 2.0 port. Not happy with this product."
