Toshiba Heads Into The Classroom With All-New Chromebook

"Industry's Only Chromebook to Feature a 13.3-inch HD Display Plus Up to 9 Hours of Battery Life,
Productivity-optimized PC Offers Affordability, Easy Management for Schools, Educators and Students"

ORLANDO, FETC 2014 - Jan. 28, 2014 - Jan. 6, 2014

Toshiba's Digital Products Division (DPD), a division of Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., today announced that its first Chromebook is ready for deployment to schools and educational institutions. The only device in its category to deliver a 13.3-inch diagonal HD display plus up to a nine-hour battery life rating , the Toshiba Chromebook is well-suited to meet the everyday needs of classrooms by offering a unique hardware design in a low-cost, cloud-based computing solution optimized for student productivity and collaboration, while being easy for administrators to deploy and manage.

"We're seeing a huge opportunity for growth with Chromebooks in the classroom," said Carl Pinto, vice president of marketing, Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., Digital Products Division. "Until now, the devices available in the market have not been designed with student productivity in mind. Our Chromebook takes a different approach, addressing key needs such as a bigger screen to work and collaborate on, a spacious keyboard that's comfortable to type on and plenty of performance and battery life to withstand the rigors of a classroom. We see this as a key benefit to schools as we're able to deliver a quality design, essential features and processing performance in a low-cost solution powered by Chrome OS."

Designed Just Right for Productivity and Learning

The Toshiba Chromebook is the first Chrome OS device to be equipped with a 13.3-inch diagonal HD TruBrite™ display with a native 1366 x 768 resolution, providing more room for students to browse, create and collaborate. A clamshell design with a full-size Chrome keyboard and large multi-touch pad offers students a comfortable surface to work on, while additional built-in features, including an HD webcam, SD card reader, HDMI® and USB 3.0 ports , and ultrafast Wi-Fi® expand the usage possibilities of the device. Powered by Intel®, this Chromebook also provides plenty of performance to accomplish a range of tasks, from simple documents to spreadsheets and multimedia presentations, while delivering the added flexibility of up to nine hours of battery life.

"Schools love Chromebooks because of their easy manageability, ease of use and affordability, as well as the wide range of education apps available in the Chrome Web Store," added Pinto. "Plus, Chromebooks are designed with security in mind, which helps keep students safe from viruses and malware without having to buy and install security software separately and they update themselves, lessening the workload on IT departments."

Easy Management for IT Departments

With Google's Web-based management console (sold separately), IT departments can easily deploy and control users, devices and apps across a fleet of Chromebooks. The console includes powerful tools for controlling user and networks access, configuring user groups, customizing features and branding, as well as app management and asset tracking features. An everyday cloud companion, the device is equipped with 100GB Google Drive storage out of the box, enabling a storage place for files and media that can be easily synced, shared and accessed across other smartphones and computing devices, so students can access their schoolwork at home.
