"Plain and simple it's junk. The power up and battery issues make it unusable. It's obvious that product testing is non-existent otherwise the issues associated with this product would have been corrected before it ever hit the market. Epic fail!!!!"

You should think about what you get for what you pay for on this camera.
I use this camera about once a week, sometimes more. I love to play with the time lapse and motion detection modes. I live on a hill facing the Pacific and like taking time lapse of the sunset, but I also used it on a trip to Minnesota last year, and I time lapsed the whole trip. I didn't like that you cant record while it is charging and I cant find a remote that works for this camera, but these are minor inconveniences for what you get.
You can find a new one of these for around a hundred dollars and you get full HD and all the little trick things like time lapse and motion detection, night setting for low light, back-lighting, slow motion, and a stabilization mode. Also, this camera is truly easy to carry, it is small and at the same time has a good size viewfinder for those of us that need to use reading glasses.
I am not sure what happened with all the other reviews, but I have never had it not work and I have had a lot of fun with all the settings.
Buy and extra battery for a long recording and some more memory. It uses an 8 gig minisd.
I think that if it won't charge, send it back and get one that works, because they are fun and easy to use."

"I just received my 2 Camileo( 1st one had battery charging issues!) the website lists the AC adaptor as an accessory to this BW 10 IT IS NOT !! It does not fit into camera, nor does the battery they list as extra. I'd also be careful ordering a computer from them... any company that can't get their website correct and has lousy tec support shouldn't be selling computers either !
So far I havn't had much luck with either purchase.
Once my camera charges on the computer ... maybe I can give a better review ;/"

"We were given this as a gift when our son was just under a month old. We have been using it to record some of his most memorable moments and it works well. We are impressed with the video quality when we hook it up to the TV. We have had no problem with volume or with transfering the clips from the card to the computer. We use Microsoft Movie Maker to edit and create and have had no problems there either. As far as still pictures go, not the best camera, but it does the trick in a pinch. Overall we really like it."

"I have the same issue as most others, intermittent ability to power on, charge and operate. Removing and inserting the battery helps 10% of the time. I am very unhappy with this model I purchased 10 days ago. I will try support tomorrow, but a search online shows hundreds of others all over the world with this same issue. I hoped Toshiba would have a firmware upgrade I could upload to the camera, but it does not seem they do."

"Out of the box I notice It didn't record from the t.v. bad deal right there it did say or didn't say anywhere on the box that I could fine. Most camcorder in America do both plus there is no software in the box two edit video on the camera will not detect any video or files ether. I think you know what I'm talking about and also The guide does not give very good detail information on the camcorder ether."

"The video is pretty good and the camera is easy to use but the audio volume control is terrible. I have seen many complaints about this as an on-going Toshiba problem that they just ignore. I am able to coax just barely enough audio out of the files using Avidemux at its highest manual gain. Why does Toshiba refuse to fix this junky firmware?"

"Last December I purchased the Toshiba Camileo X400. I purchased it primarily to record my son's gymastics meets. I was impressed with the features of the camera and wanted to upgrade to HD from my old mini DV camcorder.
In trying out the camera I shot some handheld outdoor video in my backyard. The resulting video was exceptionally clear, colors was vibrant and I thought I had made a good choice. Then I recorded indoors at the next gymnastics meet. The camera would go in and out of focus and the resulting video was quite blurry. It was strange that even when there was little movement you can see the picture going in and out of focus. I called Toshiba support hoping it was a camera setting or user error that could be corrected. They told me it might be defective and to return it so I did. Since I really liked the camera, with the credit for the return I purchased the next model, X416. It is the exact same camera except it has 16GB of internal storage. Unfortunately this camera exhibits the same video blurriness that the X400 did. I tried several adjustments to the settings including resolution, stabilization, lighting, etc. but still the resulting video is blurry. I should add that I am using a monopod so the camera holding is very stable.
I think I will be returning this camera also unless this issue can be resolved. Based on my experience I cannot recommend this camera. Although it has a great feature set, the primary function of recording HD video is not acceptable."

"I experienced the same problem as other reviewers. I loved the size of the camera and its features. It was working fine and just turned off in the midst of my trip to Germany and would not come back on until it was plugged into my computer again. I had purchased a separate AC adaptor that worked in Europe, so of course, I did not have my computer with me and missed the rest of the pictures on my trip!"

"I received this camcorder as a Christmas gift. I charged it and tried it for just a few minutes to see how well it worked and I was impressed. A month later i tried to use it at the beach and it wouldn't power on. I just got back from a cruise and tried to use it again and experienced the same problem. Not worth paying even 10 dollars."

"My daughter received this camcorder for Christmas after asking for one for 3 years. Unfortunately I never looked into any reviews previous to the camcorder purchase however I've purchased many Toshiba products and been satisfied up to this point. Not the case now, she used the camera w/8gb sd card for less than a week the camcorder made her delete recordings and when we went on a family vacation with a full battery it died and will not turn on at all we've done everything nothing will work, I even purchased a new battery what a waist of $. :-("

"We have had it for about a month...we turned it on a maximum of 4 times. The camera stopped working. It wouldn't turn on and it would erase all the pictures when it turned off. Now it only works when it is plugged into the computer and will still turn itself off after 2 minutes. I asked my mom if her friend was having the same issue and she was. It is a cute little recorder and I love that it's picture/video. I was really excited..It would be an amazing buy if it would actually work."

"Within first month, On/Off switch would frequently fail, usually just when I wanted to take pictures. Often couldn't turn the camera on. Returned camera for a credit and bought a second camera. The On switch (or maybe the battery contacts) on this camera also failed within the first month. Serious quality problem that has not been fixed."

"We had the same problem as another reviewer. The camera seemed not to "hold a charge", turning off after a few minutes, then wouldn't charge at all.

"We recieved our Camileo as a gift and eagerly read through the instruction manual and charged it up. (Which took 8 hours since they decided not to include a AC adapter)
The camera worked reasonable well but it keeps turning itself off after 5-10 minutes! We were in the midst of photographing our daughter playing in snow for the first time and it just refused to work.
On the surface it seems like a good camera but with this shut-off problem I can't recommend it to anyone."

"Just did some initial testing after buying and not liking a Canon that was more expensive. This camera has a couple of advantages:
- it records in MPEG4, which is much more compatible with nonlinear edit systems. It can be used with lighter systems then AVCHD, which is really a transport codec.
- it has a great, smooth zoom that works well
- handled high contrast well in my first testing
- the charging via USB through either a computer or charger is a great advantage for travel
- the external mic in is a necessity for my application, citizen journalism
- picture quality at the highest settings (did not test the others) was great.
- steady shot image stabilization worked very well
- controls are simple and there aren't a lot of useless "special features" no one ever uses. Simple is good.
- touch screen control works well once you get used to it.
- the little light is a great idea as it adds just enough to make it usable and bump up inside shots.
Overall it is a very good camera. The only need I see for an internal hard drive is backup as it is much easier to deal with an SD card for real editing. Much prefer to the Canon.
On the negative side:
- the simple controls are a bit arcane. Takes reading the manual to really understand.
- Manual says it can be used as a webcam... which is great, but I haven't been able to figure it out yet. Doesn't like Skype on a PC or iChat on a Mac.
- battery life doesn't seem to be all that hot, which is also true of the Canon. It could be better.
This camera is a very good choice for my application. I can see several categories of users being very happy with it. The addition of a little bag is a bonus."

"I have been using this, and I LOVE the quality of it, when it actually works. Half the time it dosen't work at all, and then sometimes it works, and shuts off and I can't get it to work again, and then other times it works alright. It is completely random. Very high level of taguchi noise with my S30. I would like you to contact me and replace it with a working model or a new model that will operate correctly."

"Pros:
- HD quality is decent (in very good lighting conditions or in daylight)
- compact, lightweight design
- simple to use out of the box
- easy to pull content onto Mac computer
- Headphone jack
Cons:
- TRIPOD IS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. Digital image stabilization is horrendous, both for handheld video capture and still images. With this camcorder, I found out that Optical Image Stabilization is so necessary.
- Still images are pixelated mess and overexposed. Even after adjusting the ISO settings and white balance according to the conditions, its seems worse than my iPhone4 still capture.
- Sound capture on video can barely be heard. Had to use a 3rd party condenser shotgun mic to get any useable sound.
- Zoom is ridiculous. You can't ease in and out. It's either a fast zoom in or zoom out.
- Battery life is really bad. On a full charge (takes 4 hours) test filming about 30-35 mins, with use of touch display and on board light and the battery was on its last bar.
- Video light is almost useless.
- Touch screen monitor is not sharp enough.
- Touch screen UI is a bit clunky and not well thought out.
Verdict: You get what you pay for. While you get more features than a regular HD Flip cam, Sony Bloggie or lower model Camileo, if you want real HD quality (near pro-sumer quality), you need to shell out more money for a camcorder with OIS not digital image stabilization. It's almost like a kid's camcorder or suped up webcam. Handheld video captured while in motion is like being in a mild earthquake. High quality stills are difficult to capture."

"Working with a limited budget, I needed a video camera to capture HD quality video for image presentation I am working on. Gave this one a try. The image quality is pretty good in reasonable light...low light it gets a bit grainy and soft. Was able to shoot some time delay shot over a 40 minute period and it turned out really nice. Using the supplied software, was able to convert the .avi to .mov format in both 16:9 and 4:3 formats...looses a bit of quality in the conversion but still very exceptable for what I need. My only gripe is that I had to return the first one I purchased because after recharging it the first time it would no longer come on when openingthe viewer or pressing the on switch...not sure what happened with that. Exchanged for new one and so far so good. The remote is a nice feature as is the time lapse capability."

"Honestly, this is the biggest waste of money that I have ever gotten myself into. I saved for weeks to buy this camera. I get it, it works ok, i film with it, i go to edit, and guess what?! IT DOESNT WORK! This camcorder only works with the included software which is terrable because you can only put your clips in a story line and you cannot edit them. It doesnt work with adobe, pinnacle, corell, and every other software. Please dont make the same mistake I did. Dont waste your money on this camcorder."

"The camera boasts full HD 1080p, and it may have 1080p but the quality is rubbish, the colours are dull if not used it a really bright area, sound quality is poor and it takes long to focus. I found problems when importing videos to editing software such as Sony Vegas and Windows Movie Maker. There is no option to change the file format, AVI only. Personally this is a waste of money."

"while recording a video, there is poor or no image stabilisation. if camera is used without movment, recorded video i great with very sharp image, but as i said without any movment of a camera.
darker scen is also results with poor quality of a recorded video, but pictures (photo) in daylight or at night (wiht used flaskh light) is great.
software on camera is ok if you use camera for take a photo but for recording a video there is no average quality of recoreded scenes.
if you use a zoom, camera take a lot of time to sharpe the image just like if you for a eg. torn around with camera while recording.
mic work just fine.
user seting of a camera is uer friendly and it is realy ease to use.
last and very important thing is that you cant record a video under 2-3 meter, it is to closed sceen, like you use a zoom, i think it is a lens problem (hw problem)...
im ex sony dv cam user (older cameras), just for a record. :))
battery is great, fast recharge, long life while using. it is best thing on a camera."

"Got this puppy less than a month ago and took it to Hawaii. Took a lot of outdoor videos and pictures without any problems using a class 6 SDHC card. Boots up pretty fast, about 1-2 seconds. Videos are good but not as clear as the more expensive Canons or Sonys but this is expected. Zoom is very sensitive. Focusing is slow. Camera shake can be a problem at higher zooms. Still images are not as well defined/accurate as a dedicated digital camera. Colors reproduced seem to be more vibrant compared to what's seen with the naked eye which may be a good thing depending on the shot. Menus are easy to use but it gets clunky when one has to access the touch screen every time to set parameters. One glitch is that it resets the date and time to default values after a few pictures. Love the "PAUSE" button though. All in all a good purchase for casual use, but if you're searching for something more professional, look to spend a little more $$$."

"I just received the camcorder and on the second day of use, it no longer zooms and has an internal clicking sound. The clicking goes away when I review the pictures, but in standby mode, it is always there. This is very disappointing, since Toshiba products have been very good in the past."

"The position of the camera lens is really awkward and it took me a few minutes to figure out how exactly I should take the picture. It was also really awkward to hold the camera. The pictures came out really blurry even when I held it straight. Even if I changed some settings and took pictures in the day or at night."

"Started using and thought not bad, like the remote.When I played back I couldn't hear myself talk,put on PC and had to turn volume up to 75% to hear.First Problem, wife then film's grandbaby, comes out grainy, thought she had done something wrong. "I purchased this camcorder 6 months ago and only just started using it. Today i bought another camera from another company. This one is just rubbish. Worst quality i have ever seen. I would have expected this quality 15 years ago. If this is 1080p HD then i would hate to see the SD version. Picture is very fuzzy. 10 times worse when zooming. Yes it is cheap but it is not worth it.

"For those with Macs, I simply wanted to say that iLife '11 for the iMac makes this camera my top choice. I did my research and I've noticed a few reviews about Mac compatibility probably made before iLife '11 was released. We purchased this camera for our son who is 11 years old. With the touch screen menu, HD footage, zoom that prevents you from overzooming, iMac 'plug and play' ease - makes this one perfect camera for our needs. "I've been using the Camileo H30 as my backup HD camera for a few months and it does a good job at that. I try not to push it, give it a lot of motion to deal with or challenging lighting conditions. With that in mind, the video is pretty decent. I like the optical zoom. I wish it was more than 5x, but considering most cameras at this price point only have digital zoom I'm okay with it.
Surprisingly, I really have been using the time lapse and slow motion functions a lot. I set up the camera on a tripod in the corner of the living room and shot my family putting up the Christmas tree - the two hour process running less than a minute. The slow motion function works well for capturing our model rocket launches. I wish the video size was bigger though (probably 320 x 240 at 120 FPS).
I would recommend this to folks who plan to shoot a lot outside or under a lot of light. I would recommend a tripod as there is no stabilization setting. The AVI files created require a lot of "oomph" from a PC to run without looking jerky. My five year old P4 can't handle them, but my Xeon workstation plays them without an issue and my editing program can deal with them with the included video codec."

"I have this camcorder for 5 months now. It is was working good until recently when i was playing back some videos on the camcorder. "Okay had this cam for just under 2 months, great video capture but where is that clicking sound coming from guys, if you ever update the firmware please consider allowing us ISO control by this I mean more ISO 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600 and find out where that clicking noise is coming from, I am sure its the auto focus.
There is also a problem with the avi format used, it has to be converted to type 2 to work in most video programs, but alas you loose some quality.
It really should have had
Audio input socket for external mic

Better White Balance Control

"We must have received a dud! The battery would not maintain a charge after being charged for 24 hrs. It also presented with a red blurry line across the screen while recording and taking pictures. Audio is muffled as said by last two reviewers. Will be returning and purchasing the X100 which received much better reviews."

The problems you're describing are most likely caused by the protective films on the camera lens and battery -- please remove them before using your Camileo camcorder. For more info on removing the protective films, please see pages 4 and 7 of your user guide.

"I found the H 30 to be a great camera for shooting videos. The full HD has amazing quality images. One thing to keep in mind is that there is no stabilization when in full HD mode so you will have to use a tri pod. The stabilizing feature does work good in HD mode though and you can shoot freehand. Still shots are great and easy to set up on the camera.
My biggest problem with this camera is the very poor audio quality. If your going to be shooting videos and also want to capture conversations or any type of audio, this is not the camera for you. The audio is so poor that even with the playback volume on the TV at full mode you can barely hear any talking. The audio when present sounds is muddled and sounds as if it is was being produced inside an echo chamber. ( Beware there is no mic input jack on this camera either if you wan to upgrade audio quality ). The built in microphone is situated on the outside of the view finder inside tiny little holes that has a very small footprint. I did a great deal of testing to try and improve the audio but had no luck in doing so. I even spoke directly into the microphone and the audio was still poor.
I am very disappointed with the audio aspect and will be returning the camera and searching for a different brand. Part of the reason for my owning a camcorder was to not only catch video but also to capture the audio portions of scenes.
What a shame as this camera does shoot good quality videos but the poor audio renders the camera useless. Toshiba would have been smart to add a microphone jack on this camcorder."
